When I was a little kid and payed this demo and noticed that Rinoa never spoke and that she just speaks in "..." I thought it was because she was a mute. I then assumed that the romantic dynamic between Squall and Rinoa would be that of a cold and distant boy whose happiness and better side is brought about by the love of a girl who speaks louder to him than anyone ever could despite never speaking a single word...

I still like my idea better >_>

So many things are completely different in this demo. Different music. Rinoa in your party. No Selphie or Quistis. For one, the translation is completely different (much more poorly written in my opinion). The footstep sound effects are different. You can't access the menu (so you can only heal in battles). Leviathan is the only GF you have, which you get much later (funny, because in the FF7 demo, you also get Leviathan). Probably even more to list. Just a really odd demo, honestly.

This was actually my first exposure to Final Fantasy. A friend of mine had a demo disc that he got from Pizza Hut (which also included Crash Team Racing, if anyone else knows what I'm talking about), and we played it.

I remember playing this YEARS ago. I'm glad they made the changes they did. That music isn't great (the victory theme sounds like a VII/VIII hybrid, not bad though), the footstep sounds are annoying, and the battle sound effects are terribly irritating. It's funny, the little things you don't think about. I guess that's what demos are for.

Pizza Hut had that deal when you buy a large pizza and get a free playstation demo like around 98, 99. This came with it and I played this faithfully. This song was so catchy. I never got the real game. But after reasearch, it seems they took this song out the game.

In the time they've made side stories, bad sequels and even worse prequels to Final Fantasy 7, or revamped movies that were made 3 years prior, and re-released the original FF7 for PSP...You think they could have put a small amount of effort into something FF8, like a sequel, or a movie. But I doubt they will. Notice how there's also like, 50 Play Arts FF7 figures, but only 3 FF8 ones which have been discontinued. Squenix doesn't care about fans anymore, just money. =D

It would seem that two out of three of my favorite FF's aren't going to get continuations. Even the one that did (FF4) I am unable to play since I do not own a Wii.

To be fair though FF8 did have a good closure to it. Having said that though so did FF4 and that got a sequel.

BTW FFVIII was supposed to be the first FF with Voices, but the immense size of a FF game + Voices wouldnt fit on a PS1 format disc so they had to wait for FFX

Well she's just there for gameplay purposes. They need three characters, but apparantly didnt wanna use Seifer... probably because they didnt want demo users to think he would be a permanent addition to the party. And they probably also wanted the players to be familiar with Rinoa. During the final product there is only Squall Zell and Seifer during these scenes, so it'd make no sense to write dialogue for a character that isnt gonna be there.

But it is kinda funny she says nothing :)
