I got here from TVTropes AND I've downloaded, played and beat the game.

And guess what? While I have my complaints about physics, I had fun playing it and I feel it has great re-play value. Greatest Sonic game ever? Not by a long shot. A true return to Sonic form? No but a fantastic effort, just needs a little fine-tuning. A great game on it's own and a step in the right direction for the franchise? Yes indeed.

COincidentally, his design changed about the same time, leading people to believe they were different persons. They're not. That's like saying Princess Peach is not Princess Toadstoll.

it would've been nice to get rid of what was supposed to be the "cool" new look and go entirely back to the classic sonic... maybe with Wario Land: Shake It! graphics. 2D > 2.5D

I was an avid Sonic Fan as a child. Sonic 2 remains the best, although all the Genesis ports are great (Sonic 3 & Knuckles was epic). SA2 was the last good Sonic game, since then, Sega's all but ruined him. Maybe this will give him new life, mind you, I've said that the last 5 or so remakes.

Sure, it's in 3D but at least it's a 2D platformer and personally, I don't think 3D should ruin something that looks to be a return to form. This game should have been completely 2D with similar sprites that were used in sonic 2 / 3, the running in this trailer looks terrible & slow. It could be a good game but it shouldn't be sonic 4, its far too different looking from 1, 2, cd, 3 & knuckles. Fingers crossed that they sort the running animation to make it look & feel faster.

The running animation could be a beta test or incomplete, Sega are good with visuals, I doubt they would allow it to look anyway sloppy.

Yeah he looks pretty slow but this isn't the final product, also at the ending of the footage, he started to speed up and then they cut the rest. So he will probably look fast later on.

I think it's intentionally slowed down from the who played it, and captured the footage. After all they show the new stuff only for a second or two - it's well made/edited trailer :)
