Yes, it was strange that I had that many musicians with me during my 3yrs of high school. I forgot, besides BW, MMM, RWH there was also Larry Groce. Larry is the one that wrote/sung the 1976 song "Junk Food Junkie". Later, about 10yrs after I graduated, Stevie Ray Vaughn was at the school also.

P.S.
everyone thinks of Michael Murphy Marting now as this C&W singer poet. But I remember him as a highschool cheerleader and having a folk band while in school.
As much as I love this version (and I really do love this version), it can't hold a candle to Three Dog Night's version. They're both phenomenal but TDG's is WAY better.
@rlpoloplaya67 Believe it or not, I really, REALLY like the version done by the 90's a capella group Rockapella. They were on a children's TV show but they also had quite a career in their own right touring (I think that group still exists but does not contain the original members anymore)
I never knew BW personally, but I went to high school with him in 1965. He was a couple of years behind me and Michael Murphy Martin was a couple of years ahead of me. But good 'ole Ray Wylie Hubbard was right there with me when we graduated in 1965 from Adamson High School in Dallas. So many musicians from the same school during a three year period, it's hard to believe.
BW died early, but he left a memory for all of use to remember him by.
3 Dog Night knew how good this song was & they certainly did it justice by adding about a minute to it and taking it to the top 5! I didn't even know B.W. Stevenson wrote & performed the song on his album until I bought it in the mid 1980's & his version was pretty cool too. Too bad he isn't around now due to passing on in 1988. He had a powerfully sweet country voice & a talent for writing excellent beautiful songs.
He moved to Farmers Branch, buying my folks home on Charcoal Cir. in 1977. Dad had a workshop in backyard, where BW played music. Heard he passed away in the 80's. not sure. Really like his tunes!
Im so glad you like him. He is my cousen but sadley he died before I got to meet him. I have pictures all around my grandparents house. He was a close cousen with my granddad. Im just so happy everyone liked him.., Thank you guys. Wish I got to meet him.
I met B.W. in Garland, Texas in 1977 at a pool party about 3 a.m. this hillbilly in overalls asked if anyone cared if he got his guitar and my first thoughts were oh well the end of a great kegger to my suprise he played Texas Morning and was 1 of the most beautiful moments in my life Thank you B.W. for the pain in your heart you expressed so well
@leebusandlibus what a beautiful story...I'm 21 and I hope I someday get the pleasure of hearing someone like BW play right before me at a pool party haha. I'm from the DFW metroplex as well.

Another great and gifted artist from a golden era in American Pop--gone way to soon.

Three Dog Nights version is a gaudy overproduced version.

P.S. B.W.'s voice is stellar. He is a legend who will live on for eternity.

@Thouchins You are very lucky to have had such associations.
Was there something in the water around there that grew good singer/songwriters?
B.W. and MMM are two of my all-time favs.

Yet another excellent tune re-done by the world's most overrated cover band, Three Dog Night. Rock & Roll HOF for them? NO WAY!

Marley800r 10 months ago
@Marley800r Daniel Moore wrote "Shambala", but BW wrote "My Maria"

@teenonator They were a great vocal band. One of the best ever & I saw them at Eisenhower Park slightly over a decade ago & they were great then.

@leebusandlibus You really lucked out that night! I was a young teen when My Maria came out & it's still great nearly 40 years later.
