My grandpa was stationed there during the attck his ship was out on patrol. My grandpa pull ed alive, dead and half dead men out of the water. He said he could never forget the smell of burning flesh out of his nose. He never shared any of his stories with us until the very end of his life here with us. We buried him 5 years ago... fortunately we got him a tombstone instead of waiting for the government to provide one which to date has not arrived. Thanks Grandpa and all your fellow vets.

i am currently stationed on Ford Island and i see the Alabama and the museum everyday. this is touching especially because here in Hawaii we honor this day seriously (for those in the military mainly)

@DeadOkami I think you mean the USS Arizona. The USS Alabama (BB60) was not in commission yet. When you get a chance, go to the Bldg 78 side of the Island (Navy Lodge), and see the USS Utah Memorial. The Navy Lodge, was the Bachelor Officers Quarters at the time of the attack. It was used as a hospital during the attack. See as much of Ford Island as you can now, because Big Navy is changing it rapidly. Apparently the Admirals forgot the significance of what happened there.

@devildoc225 i have seen them, the navy lodge is were i stayed at with my family before we moved into our houses at the ford island landing which is the housing area located in the back. there are some sea plane launching sites still around as well as the historic cement and hangers. i can even see some of the bullet holes

also the BOQ (We call them) is still there and the old movie theater has been turned into a meeting area.

but still, hardly anyone knows about the mini-subs in pear harbor. the attack wasnt just by air,there were also 3 Japanese mini-subs that endered pear harbor. 2 were destroyed on the way in, but one made it, it shot both torpedoes, but no one knows if they made the shot at the U.S.S. Arizona. Look it up some time when you get bored! verry interesting it is...

The 1% is the planes. They took off quite fast all in order. No time waiting for going to the ramp.
