The biggest problem with Liberation Theology is that it doesn't take into account that God is not a respecter of persons. So God doesn't see people in classes whether they be social or economic. God is just as concerned for the soul of the rich man as he is the homeless man.
The problem is now we are combining very Marxist ideas with religion. So now, it is safe to be a Marxist because you get God thrown in too. But Marxism is just as oppressive, if not more so, than capitalism.
Liberation Teology is central to a chistian vision of the world and how the different social forces act in it, as is central to the Catolic Church the II Vatican Concilium, but it looks like the long J.P.II reign try once an another to not recognice it, to negate it- the II Vat.Conc.- and one of it consecuences the Lib.Teology.
You know what happens, sorry about my english, europe and usa can never admitt that something as deep as that comes from such a poor and remote place.
Doesn't Professor John Coffey thinks that the assassination of Arcebispo Oscar Romero by the imperialist forces of the United States, deserves a mention?

Seems everyone was interested in the abolitionists not so long ago, but don't remember anyone discussing liberation theology then.
