  • Love his novels

  • I'm actually glad that there has been no Harry Bosch movie, because Hollywood would certainly mess it up. They'll likely cast a big-draw star like Leonardo DiCaprio as Harry Bosch.

Each person has his or her idea of what Harry Bosch looks like. My pick to play the older, present-day Harry (without a mustache) is Dan Hedaya.

  • Someone mentioned that Bryan Cranston would make a great Harry Bosch, and as much as I like Cranston, I don't see it. One, he's already cast in the Lincoln Lawyer movie as another character, and two, he doesn't have the physical brawn and ruggedness required to really sell the Bosch character. He's a bit too old to do it now, but in my mind I always picture the actor Tom Berenger as Harry, or someone who looks similar.

  • @dander337 Hey, look up Clive Owen with a mustache (which Bosch is described as having). After I read that Harry had curly hair and a character told him that he looked like House (Hugh Laurie), it kind of changed my mind's image of him to someone similar to Clive.

Clive looks surprisingly different with the mustache, and of course he would put on an American accent. The only trouble is I'm not sure if Bosch is that tall, given that he cleared VC tunnels during the war. What do you think?

  • @AJokerCard I can totally see Clive Owen as Harry, and yes, his new mustache would fit the character perfectly. I also read the bit about a female character (Eleanor Wish was it?) in one of the books saying to Harry, "You look like House". Funny since Laurie plays House with a flair for making cynical jokes, just like Bosch. You made a really good point abt Harry's height; those tunnels in Vietnam would've been very narrow! I guess we'll have to assume Harry was really skinny back then.

  • @dander337 Yeah, he was probably fairly slim back in the war. I'm reading Black Ice now and it hasn't mentioned Harry's height yet, but he does "look down" on the shorter characters quite a bit, so I would guess he's around 5'10'' or so.

But here's something cool: After my first comment, I looked around google a while and found that Connelly apparently says that actor Billy Burke would be a his pick for Bosch. I think that's interesting.

  • @AJokerCard 5'10" sounds right. In Lost Light, Harry is questioning someone and describes him as being a "large man" at six feet and 250 lbs. Are you reading the series in order? I wish I did that. The only one I haven't read is A Darkness More Than Night, and I get anxiety thinking about it; I don't want a good thing to end lol.

Actually, Billy Burke wouldn't be a bad at all: he's the right age, is relatively unknown, and matches "most" of Bosch's physical descriptions.

  • @dander337 Just started with Black Ice and I'm nearly done with it, so I guess I'll to go in order from here. I've just been doing a bit of research about Bosch on the net recently.

Got a lot of books ahead if I continue! :^D

  • @AJokerCard Aww dang, you're so lucky! Unless you're like me and end up sleeping only 3-4 hours because of Connelly's books. He makes me wanna go back to school and take writing classes.
