  • Sanjay Gupta is a douche bag. Enough said!

  • message to Dr. Sanjay Gupta,"I WANT THE TRUTH!!!!"

  • What "factS" (plural) did Gupta get wrong? All I can find is that he mis quoted moore as saying percapita health care costs in Cuba were 25 bucks instead of 251.

  • Joycelyn Elders was the best Surgeon General the US ever had. Bring her back!!!

  • sanjay gupta is A DICK

  • А big lie repeated by the media in US: "In Canada you have to wait..." Lie, lie, lie! I lived in Canada as a foreigner for years, had complete coverage for family for $60/month, my wife gave birt at no charge whatsoever... my professor had a tripple bypass and did not wait for the surgery... Canada is a dream in social care, access to higher education and retirement. It is a humane society of caring people.

  • Gupta=corporate shill.

  • CNN is run, much like US Government, by foreign agents, scammers, lobbyists, and jokers.

Who is watching any ways?? Newspaper sale is down, hardly anyone is watching CNN, and no one seems to care about what they have to say.

  • Gupta is Health Insurance company shill...absolutely disgusts me...I turn the channel when he is on s it OFFENDS me that he is a doctor who took an oath..swine!

  • Gupta is the guy, anyone else see him runing a hospital alone when the UN Doctors left?

  • How could we miss it? Dr Sanjay makes sure the cameras are on when acting heroically. The guy is a star!

  • The Surgeon General post is useless. We don't need it! Government, for the most part, should stay within its constitutional bounds. And it's not like states themselves can't be sovereign and have their OWN versions of all these agencies and Cabinet depts. independent of the feds. The federal gov't has forgotten that we live in a FEDERALIST republic, not a unitary one.

  • Why the hell do we need a "top doctor" in the gov't anyhow? Or many of these other unnecessary health agencies, like CDC, NIH, NIMH, etc.? Or st ate boards of health? All they mainly do is regulate. Sure, some do research, but it's not like PRIVATE labs and universities couldn't pick up the slack. Same with NASA. That should've been privatized decades ago when the space race fizzled out. There's so much in our gov't we could get rid or privatize, but special interests won't let go.

  • Well, what are Moore's accomplishments? He's great at bitching about everyone not on the far left and i'm sure he'd be good at hotdog eating contests. Other than that hes nothing but an anti-American fat !@#$

  • and you are? Why should we listen to you over him?

  • dr gupta what are your qualifications and experience

"well i used to play the childs game 'operation' alot... i can pull out the wish bone without making the machine buzz like everytime... im 10 for 10 on wish bones dude"

  • what a douche bag

  • Gupta has been bought and sold by big pharma.

  • Gupta is not really trustworthy. He lied about Michael Moore's documentary "Sicko". For someone at CNN with his own research staff, there was no reason to be so factually incorrect. We need someone who sincerely wants to improve public health care, not cash in by broadcasting lies.

  • Gupta seems like a snake and liar,so he will fit in perfectly in politics.

  • What about Dr Bruce Lipton as a candidate?

  • A government puppet in a suit that will articulate any position the pharmaceutical companies say will help the conditions that are created by pseudo-scientists invoking artificial statistics to frighten the public, intimidate the feckless AMA, and influence the health care system. Got a better view? Why not make him the President's personal physician and see how that flies.

  • It cuts no ice with me that Gupta admits he erred when he repeated the AMA's lies about Michael Moore's movie "SicKo," and single payer universal health care. I doubt I'd ever be able to believe anything he said, based on the ease with which he passed along those lies. Even though he capitulated (not apologized), he only did so under pressure.

On the other hand, he did admit it, unlike (for example) Cheney, whose response to being caught in a lie is to say, coolly, "So?"

  • Gupta is just another pretty face - a doctor turned journalist / reporter. We need a more serious doctor, with a concern for the public, not a puppet for pharmaceuticals, but a balance between medical expertise and alternative health practices that work.

  • The one thing I'm confused about Obama's appointing is this one! I think he could have done better, a lot better then Gupta!

  • He lied repeatedly about "SICKO"...and he never really "apologized" for repeating medical industry propaganda about universal healthcare.

Is Obama going to be another Bill Clinton, constantly kow-towing to the far right while they continually knife him in the back?

Gupta would be a good start on that path.

  • Unfortunately it's looking that way, but you should have already realized that once Obama sold out his belief in single payer health care to become a palatable, corporate candidate.

  • Surgeon General position is a waste of money. 5-10 children could use that money for health care.

  • people are NOW worried about qualifications? where the hell was this uproar when Palin ran for vice prez?

  • Maybe you missed the news and the uproar over Palin's lack of qualifications.

  • After hearing Gupta's reporting of "Sicko" on CNN this is the most diappointing thing I've heard yet from the Obama campaign. I worked my ass off for the campaingn to get this guy elected becuase I truly thought he'd finally bring us universal healthcare. I fear with Gupta in the mix that John Conyer's HR 676 will never pass. Please Obama, do the moral thing and support John Conyer's HR 676 (Christianized Healthcare/Universal Healthcare)!! Who would Jesus deny coverage religous right?? WAKE UP!!

  • Politics 101:

What a politicians says to get elected (or stay in office) and what a politicians does are completely different things. Politicians get elected based on perception, not on merit.

  • If goopy (that's what his close friends call him) was behind the Hillary health care debacle, then he'll be the perfect addition to the Clinton whitehouse... oops, I mean the Obama administration.

Politics is a lot like three card monte now-a-days. You really have to keep your eyes on what's going on... and its all rigged too. Did you really think it mattered who you voted for? You were going to get the same lousy house band no matter which "front man" you picked. Enjoy the show.

  • Hey, I think the stolen elections of 2000 & 2004 were proof positive that it DOES matter who the President of the United States is.

    Boy, does it ever matter!

  • You really can't see it yet, can you? Give it time. Here's a hint, discard the rhetoric and keep an eye on results.

When I was young I used to think wrestling was real too... I grew out of it.

  • Well, actually, your rather condescending comeback merely points out your own rhetoric. I'm the one actually using the "results" we've had under Bush to make my arguments. Don't know about you, but I've been keeping my eyes wide open all these years...

  • Aren't there any good biological scientists who can fill the job?

  • A biological scientist is not fit to be the SURGEON General.

  • What exactly does a Surgeon General do?

  • He's a spokesperson, nothing more. The supporters of Universal Health Care don't like him because he has a healthy skepticism of UHC (as do I, having lived half of my life in a country with one).

  • Yeah, so wouldn't a scientist have far more insight into information about medical research & reports worldwide than a person who only knows of the medical community within the US? Besides as you said, he's only the spokesperson, I'd rather have a scientist telling me stuff rather than a pediatrician or plastic surgeon.

  • Are you familiar with what a biological scientist does? They spend their careers investigating and becoming an expert on one niche of the biological sciences. That aside, that was a ridiculous generalization- I'm sure the editor of Popular Science would fit your criteria better than any doctor or scientist if "information about medical research and reports worldwide" is the criteria. The Surgeon General is simply a spokesperson- the face of public health medical doctors.

  • cool

  • Michael, you are so right.. this man is just a media suckup who works for the "man". When Travoltas son died of seizures he failed to mention a major cause of many seizures in this country caused by aspartame, poor diet ( chemically laden foods) , melamine, steroids... shall I keep going? I personally cured 3 people completely of their seizures. All were poisoned by their food. Gupta is a great surgeon but if he is buying into the NWO construct of lobbyists for Pharma industry.. he can suck it

  • I don't understand the problem, the guy is a neurosurgeon. People without any formal education (or no understanding of medicine)have the audacity to criticise someone with a degree in neuroscience and has contributed to 3D modelling of the brain and spine. What is America coming too?

  • agreed.

  • ABC gets it right? That would be a first. lol I love Tom Stossel is it, or is that BBS? Like it matters. But this network in general is one of the worst in telling the truth. I do agree that Dr. Sanjay is a very poor pick though.

  • he assuredly will know the proper propaganda to spew. He's already mainstreamed as a mouthpiece for the NWO. Not surprised one bit this is his choice.

  • You know what who really cares no matter who is in that office the country is still be run as it normally is. We place too much on them when the fact is the president does not lead or run the country we the people do ...if we want to.

  • CNN is not good enough for a qualification to the Job.

  • I really dont care who gets it, as long a universal "free" health care takes place. It is so badly needed in this country.

  • WHAT?? Get someone who is dedicated to being a doctor. He spent the latest years of his life dedicated to becoming the best reporter he could possibly be. Come on...Plus he lied about MM's movie sicko for who knows what reason....

  • A position like this is mostly about keeping the public informed and a man willing to admit publicly he was wrong makes up for any politicaly prepared pupet.

  • "Dr Gupta is a widely recognized big Pharma salesman and evangelist"

Watch the whole "admission" of error, it's weak

  • Henry Mankin,M.D. The best the world has to offer. He's not only the best orthopaedic surgeon and professor in the world but also did internal medicine prior to going into orthopaedics, he advanced bone tumor research, started bone banking and very well respected all over the planet. Truth and Integrity is his middle name.

  • Dr Sanjay Gupta deserves that job about as much as Barney deserves to be chair of the Department of Anthropology.

  • if wants to be in the top spot he must advocat universal health care and he must refuse his own care until every American is covered, otherwise he's just another hypocrite

  • I would have offered the job to the bloke who resigned because the Bush administration muzzled him!

He obviously had his heart in the right place

  • Joycelyn Elders isn't a household name?

  • Shill for Big Pharma and insurance companies

  • Sanjay Gupta...fudged his pants.

  • Gupta is a for profit lakee

  • What the hell is wrong with profit? You're so backward you're speaking out of your ass

  • MISTER Michael MOORE PLEASE UPDATE US ON THE STATUS OF UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PLEASE. I KEEP CRYING EVERY SINGLE DAY :'(

  • Watch Gupta's "report" that Moore went ape-shit over. You really can't call Gupta's story - journalism. It was one-sided, only sourcing one person from the health insurance industry and largely irrelevant. Does it matter if Moore used numbers that come out $7,000 a year person for health care or $6,999. A real journalist that quibbling over non-essential bits of data is not proper. It's not intellectually honest. And Moore was correct, if not low-balling the numbers a bit.

  • If the choice were between Dr. Gupta, Dr. Phil and that guy from Scrubs, I'll choose the guy from Scrubs over the other two.

  • Did Gupta really apologize for trying to sneak some bogus stuff past Michael? I don't remember that part. I remember him trying to come off as, "oh well I wasn't all THAT wrong!"

MM pwned the health care mandarins and the coorporate conservatarded mainstream media did all it could to ignore it.

  • I loved when Michael went ape shit on CNN after they played Sanjay's video.

  • who cares, what do they do?

and big shock that bush never replaced his, like he would give a fuck about our health

  • that's true
