This sucks, my left big toe has an ingrown, to the point where I think the skin getting punctured is infected... I tried to cut the nail, but the swollen skin popped n wont stop bleeding. I might need this surgery! :,(

I was nervous because students were doing it (under supervision of a pro, but even so) The only bit that hurt a little bit was the injections for the local anaesthetic. Its not only the needle going into the toe but they move it around in there to find the sweet spot. But it didn't hurt as much as I expected. After my toe was dead everything was fine. I'm not sqeemish so I was sitting up watching it Haha!

Just got back from having mine removed. To all people worrying: the needle(s) do hurt but after that you just feel them poking around, no pain at all. When the anaesthetic wears off it also hurts. But do not worry, if you are a worrier like me know that its not as bad as you expect it to be.

@undertopsy - Most likely, he didnt use enough numbing agent. When they did mine in this video, my toe swelled to about twice its normal size. There was so much that it actually squirted out the injection site. Find a different doctor.
@sakezara Yeah 1st and the last time I go to that doctor. One question, are you bathing your toe in salt water or are you using medication given to you by the doctor? I was given betadine solution and some ointment but I found that a salt water bath for half an hour a day works just as well.
@sakezara I had the insides of my toes done 8 years ago and im getting the outsides done this week or next week somehow because they got ingrown somehow as well, not looking forward to the healing process of the flip flops
@paramedion i recommed u to get to doctor, u dont feel anything while they are removing the nail, but after they have finished it etc, then u will feel a little pain, and the pain will be more and more in like 4-5 hours, and the day after that, u can walk without pain, u get used to it, and at the moment this is my 8th day after the surgery. And i feel nothing, i walk as the doctor told me to walk. And the teacher told me to not do gymnastic at school :) my toe is growing normally now :)

Just got mine done today! The worst part is the needle. They spray cold spray on while they are giving the shot. Its just like a pinch! On a scale of one to ten it wasnt even a five! I could not feel anything once it was numb! It looks and feels soo much better! If you are getting it done in the office like me, it takes less then ten mins. After i walked right out with no help! The numbing lasts for 8 to 10 hrs so thats good too. DONT BE NERVOUS! It was the best thing ive ever done and im fift
@boonedocks7434 depends how far along your nail is.. if its like mine and its way in the back.. you need to get it removed.... if its towards the front more id try sticking pieces of cotton underneath it and letting it grow out.

I have had an infected in growing toenail before and I have had this operation. I had 4 needles in my tow 2 at the front 2 at the back, they didnt hurt at all just a little pinch. After that I couldnt feel a thing. If you are going to have this dont worry because its worth it and it is such a relieve when it is taken out. I was on crutches for about a week just so nobody stomped on it. Now 5 ,oths later it is like nothing was there in the first place

Wow! That looked painful, my husband just had this done, but they only did one side and they didn't use phenol to kill the root they used sodium hydroxide. My husband said the numbing of his toe was the worst part! I was there and saw the whole thing and the numbing did look uncomfortable! Had both done last year with a local freezing. Right toe was not froze and the doc still pulled the nail. Just had them removed again yesterday surgically. Hoping they do not come back. Is very painful when there is no freezing. Hope all worked out, so they do not return.

Had the right big toenail removed 10 days ago and only wish I'd had it done 30 years ago. Very little, if any, pain post-op and it only lasted about 24 hours when I would accidentally bump it. Had it done because it was symptomatic (infected) and have scheduled to have the left one removed next week because it's so difficult to properly trim the corners of the nail without leaving a sharp edge/point. I'm looking forward to it because the results make life much, much better.

I have had an infected in growing toenail before and I have had this operation. I had 4 needles in my tow 2 at the front 2 at the back, they didnt hurt at all just a little pinch. After that I couldnt feel a thing. If you are going to have this dont worry because its worth it and it is such a relieve when it is taken out. I was on crutches for about a week just so nobody stomped on it. Now 5 ,oths later it is like nothing was there in the first place

Had it done today. I was so worried that the needle shot would hurt. But it didn't. It just stung a bit. I felt nothing after the sedative kicked in. It was actually cool to watch :3

I had my toe surgery on monday and they used the phenol on my toenail and thats the same stuff they take paint off airplanes with! fucking PWNT

@Tibby129 dude i had one its not bad at all my dad did for me.. but hes a surgeon..
but its not bad trust me.. they give yah novacane so you cant feel it.. the only thing that blows is when the novacane wears off then it hurts soooo bad.. but just take tylenal and try to get some sleep..

@Tibby129 im 12 too, i just had this done yesterday but my doctor was alot better than this guy, it doesnt hurt at all, the worst part is the shot they give u to numb it but after that u dont feel nothing.

actually the creepiest thing I experienced when I had mine done is I was able to feel the tendons moving when he was moving my toe, but couldn't feel the toe.

Wow! That looked painful, my husband just had this done, but they only did one side and they didn't use phenol to kill the root they used sodium hydroxide. My husband said the numbing of his toe was the worst part! I was there and saw the whole thing and the numbing did look uncomfortable! The needle was about two inches long and the doctor was forcefully jabbing it into his toe! I hope his toe heals well, it's only been a week and I already found a piece of toenail in his toe that the doctor l

@blackwidow484 I just got mine removed a few hours ago and I was scared of the shot because people make it seem so bad on youtube..well just letting you know it wasnt bad at all..it was wayy less painful then an immunization..and those barely hurt..so nothing to worry about..the only bad part for me if the after surgery part...apperently it hurts really bad so he prescribed me painkillers.

Had both done last year with a local freezing. Right toe was not froze and the doc still pulled the nail. Just had them removed again yesterday surgically. Hoping they do not come back. Is very painful when there is no freezing. Hope all worked out, so they do not return.

@LittleDrummer55 well, for me the needle hurt more like my toe wasen't iced or anything and yes afterwards hearts alot but if you ceep ur feet up for that night like lie on the ground with ur foot up you should be fine XD

Had the right big toenail removed 10 days ago and only wish I'd had it done 30 years ago. Very little, if any, pain post-op and it only lasted about 24 hours when I would accidentally bump it. Had it done because it was symptomatic (infected) and have scheduled to have the left one removed next week because it's so difficult to properly trim the corners of the nail without leaving a sharp edge/point. I'm looking forward to it because the results make life much, much better.
