  • Recycled paper pollutes more in production than regular paper. CFL bulbs contain mercury vapor which can be deadly if you breathe it. Turning your computer OFF saves more than standby mode.

  • "Wrong again, idiot."

  • Most "Green" products use far more energy in their creation than their "Brown" equivilants. Some like hybred autos, will never produce a net energy savings. Same for those touting E85. CFLs contain mercury vapor "not really a green item" and require special disposal.

  • Saving trees? Eh? Those trees are planted on purpose. It's like saving lettuce. Sheesh, bunch of morons.

  • Inverting a CFL cuts its lifespan significantly. CFLs were designed to be mounted upright. If mounted in an inverted orientation, the base gets much hotter and the internal semiconductors degrade faster. If youre going to invert the bulb in, say, a ceiling fixture, count on it failing sooner.

  • @SeaWolfe59 I cannot stand some of the CFL's light output they create weird colors and most are incompatible with dimmer or motion switches, even the ones designed to be dimmed still don't "dim" like a regular incandescent. I have hoarded a stash of standard BR30's for my pot lights because after trying a dimmable CFL BR30 I will never go back.

  • Re: #1

Recycled products are generally NOT cheaper, at least where I live.

  • Those energy efficient light bulbs last a lot longer than conventional bulbs too which is another reason to pick those, unless you break one they can last for years and years.

  • recycled paper DOES NOT save trees, the trees used to make paper come from tree farms. Those trees are farmed by the big lumber corps to make wood for building materials and furniture. Paper pulp comes from all the sawdust and shavings that end up on the floor. Paper is to lumber industry to what Hot Dogs are to the meat industry. It is a cheap product made from waste byproducts.

The only recycling that does save energy and resources is METAL.

  • Stereos and TVs used to have an eco friendly feature called ON/OFF switch.

Today all they have is a freaking "stand-by" bump. >_>

And about the light. You can use retrofitted halogen lamps for E14 and E27 sockets. And they save 30% energy. If ya wanna save up to 90% you should use LED lights. They don't flicker and they do not contain any mercury. CFL bulbs should not be used due to their mercury, their flicker and their high blue light spectrum that causes prematurely blindness.

  • lol the light bulb screener made me think " oh shit my energy saving light was a rip off??? " lol

  • Installing better roofs and energy efficient windows is also a great option.

  • Spiral bulbs are shit, I use 'em for overhead lighting but for reading incandescent rules all the way. Fuck eco-faggots.

  • sleep mode? hibernate mode is best and TURN OFF your monitor.

  • @Cyberwolfman or just turn it off period!

  • @antonioscheel In hibernate mode the computer IS off. In sleep mode the computer is still on.

    'Phantom Load'

all your appliances consume 75% of your electric bill while they're switched off!!!

  • Those appliances are also conspiring to kill you in your sleep! :o

  • @MotaMouse bullshit be more specific. Phantom load is standby mode. do not manipulate words! switched off is exactly that switched off!

  • The National Resource Defense Council says we don't need more power plants?

You mean a group devoted to making energy as expensive as possible, decreasing productivity, and in general stopping all technological progress is against new energy sources?

Imagine that. Great way to find a trustworthy source...

  • his name is stacy?

  • I've saved about 120 dollars in the last 2-3 months on window cleaners, laundry soap, bathroom cleaner, danderuff shampoo, and a whole bunch of other crap with a $1.50 box of baking soda and a 2 dollar 3 gallon jug of white vinegar.

  • amen! i've been doin that for 30 years!

  • New Refrigerator's are VERY expensive, if a good one was less then $500 and I could pay with layaway....I'd do it.....but I tried, sears will NOT do layaway....and that right there sucks.

  • that is soo true I got rid of a 15 year old refrigerator and all of a sudden my electric bill was $40.- less each month!!

  • I don't use a refridgerator! Average 1kW per day, who needs all this power?

  • LOL

what about the money you'd save on gas going to the store ???

  • I walk to the store!

  • Refrigerator? Store? Bah-humbug! I walk through the woods behind my house and eat whatever snakes that I find. You people are weak.

  • I'm a herpetologist, you shouldn't be eating snakes
