The comments here are sensitive and insightful. Thanks all for sharing the thoughts. Great books I recommend on Dana, Sean and the period are DERAILED IN UNCLE HO'S VICTORY GARDEN by Tim Page and the superb RIVER OF TIME by Jon Swain. One of the finest books on Cambodia's nightmare is THE LOST EXECUTIONER by Nic Dunlop.
Dana was a good friend. First he ran with supply freighters to Asia and then finally jumped off in Vietnam with his good camera. Tried to leave there once but nothing else was as real. Great sense of humor and smart. I met Louise also. They fit together well. I have been waiting to hear something more about Stone all these years. Tried to find Louise also but never could.
Louise died from MS in the Spring of 2000. I had visited her for twenty years. She gave me all of Dana's photographs. My sister Roxanna and her were together at the time that Dana and Sean were captured. Sean was with Roxanna the night before their capture.
Dana's younger brother Thomas did 3 tours in Vietnam he wanted to find his brother. He was KIA in Afghanistan 28th March 2006. It was the Famous iconic photographer Tim Page who wouldn't rest until finally locating the scarce remains of them both in 1991, forensics tests showed they had both met a Brutal Violent end. RIP Larry Burrows.
The comments here are very poignant. I am 36and am only now learning Dana Stone's own story through his association with Errol Flynn's son Sean, but when I have time I do like to follow human interest stories. Thanks for posting, as with the power of the Internet, we can learn about so many lives and stories previously "untold".
My sister Roxanna Brown was a Vietnam War combat journalist from 1968-1975. She hung around with all those photographers and journalists. Her stories are real insightful. Dana Stone's wife had MS. I sat bedside with her for nearly 20 years talking about the war before she died.
Last night I bought "Fire In The Lake" to read when I am finished with "Dispatches." Have you read it ? It's supposed to tell me why we had that damned war to begin with.
I never had the privilege of meeting Dana or Sean- their work & courage to get it done was remarkable.I did have a brief meeting with Mike (Dispatches)Herr near Danang once & he had nothing but honorable(& crazy) things to say about these 2.
Respect to sis- & Im glad you were able to comfort Mrs.Stone for many years
Sometimes there were conflicts with the jurnalists over there -but now ,a lifetime later- how silly it was.

Mr. Brown,
Last night I bought "Fire In The Lake" to read when I am finished with "Dispatches." Have you read it ? It's supposed to tell me why we had that damned war to begin with.
