My rope prep is a mess of paracord and synthetic rope, and 120,000 feet of bailer twine and my six strand rope maker. With my rope maker I can do just about any size from 2 strand cordage to a 36 strand hauling rope. this way I stock the supplies for my rope maker and I can create any sized rope I need.
Great channel, but I need to say one thing ROPE IS COOL.
The thing is, you are wrong, southernprepper. ROPE IS COOL! (especially tactical black rope! ; ) Good video! May I suggest the Ashley Book of Knots? Its overkill concerning practical knots you should know*, but ANY knot for Any application is in this book, using the right knot is just as important as using the right tool for each job. *should know at least: Constrictor Knot Bowline a slip knot Sheet Bend Clove Hitch Taught Line Two Half Hitches A few basic lashings(Square, diagonal, etc)
If you ever come out to NM there is a place you might want to visit. It's called "El Rancho de Las Golondrinas". It is a ranch that is gives you a look at what the spanish colonials did.
They have a machine that weaves Yucca fibers into rope. So that might be something worth looking into. I'm not sure what the requirements are for growing Yucca out here they just grow with little care.
@mrhnm My father owns a machine shop and has been working with metal his whole life so he is our gun smith. He dabbles in fixing firearms right now and he is buying gunsmithing tools. No blacksmith right now we do have some blacksmiths tools but no expert at all. But this would be a great skill to have in a retreat group.
@mrhnm As a prepper I own a Blacksmith shop, traditional woodworking tools, leatherworking tools, and stock alot of materials. I see alot of people storing food and water, buying gold and silver, and sitting on a mountain of food and a few hundred gallons of water. But few actually have the skills, tools, and knowledge to repair and replace their supplies. Gold and silver will be worthless. Blacksmithing, woodworking, etc., will be the coveted suppliers in collapse. I won't work for gold.
@TheIowaPrepper Well that depends, on what happens. If it's an economic collapse Gold and Silver are going to insulate your money and hide it from inflation. IF there is a TOTAL collapse of society then your position is right. But I just don't see that type of thing happening.
Like anything else, you don't realize how important something is until you need it and don't have it. Cordage should be on everyone's prepping list.
On a side note the jute twine makes good tender when building fires. Take a 35mm film canister and stuff it full of jute impregnated with petroleum jelly (cotton balls work as well) and a simple spark from an old discarded Bic lighter will start your fire.
Rope is great for emergency situations. Putting up a tarp for shelter, hanging game. securing loads, communists. Rope is great for bartering. And you will get alot more value out of bartering a rope in economic collapse than what it is worth today so it mulitplies your assets. Rope is easy to make. We made it all the time when we were kids on the farm. We made it from twine. It worked great. There are lots of books and vids on rope making and it's a great skill to have. Rope splicing is good too.
i like to stock 550 paracord. very inexpensive, very strong. makes great workboot laces and i've used the "cobra weave" to make numerous rifle slings.
That drum is "valuable" get as many as you can afford. rope is a like food. your going to need lots of it and different sizes. I have rappelling static, climbing, and assorted types. you can even take 550 cord take the core out of it and you have 15 little nylon threads to make repairs with. don't forget pulleys cause you need force multiplier to move and raise stuff. having 4 or more bug-out places is a wise idea, you might get cut off for days or weeks. stock each for at least a month stay!
In the country we use rope a heap. I've made and used rope from animal hide - kangaroo, goat, beef and deer. Raw, greenhide, picked and even bark tanned. Truthfully, you can get a serviceable rope very easily by twisting raw cow hide up (the right way - there is plenty of info out there) and letting it nearly dry twisted, then oil and work it while it dries. Plenty strong enough to hold a scared and lunging cow by the horns. Cordage is more fiddly to make, and also more useful. Stock that.
Synthetic rope generally has a longer life with less chance of rot. It looks like you have a good selection of tools. Tools will be essential in a WROL situation. If you dont have one you might want to look for an old fashioned brace & bit set. Cordless drills are nice but not much good without power. Our ancestors built a lot of things using sweat & a brace & bit.
@mmmmmnnnnn55555 brace and bits sets...yes I have 4 or 5. I just watch the flea market and pick them up cheap. I have a collection of old tools that I enjoy using sometimes.
@southernprepper1 Thanks! I grew up working class & rural so Ive been around people who had to improvise most of my life. I realize now what a great advantage that was. My main problem now is Im on the edge of a 3 Million + metro area & my go to spot is 90 miles away on the other side of that Metro area. Your dead on about garage sales. There are great bargains to be had at them. Items dont have to be shiny & new to be usefull.
Rope is good but so are large & extra large zip ties, especially the reusable ones. They make excellent restraints, tarp supports etc. I like the 55 gallon drum idea but some items would be too heavy to work with if full. The plastic pails that Kitty Litter come in work good for some items. Theyre not too heavy even when theyre full of ammo, brass etc. Ive also been buying the small propane bottles & Bic lighters when I can find them on sale. Fire making skills are good but a Bic is easy.
you know you are informing the public, but you're almost putting yourself in harms way...if the shit hit the fan everybody is going to know that you have everything. I appreciate your service. I'm personally question even doing vids on the guns I own for that same reason
Thanks for sharing. Your videos really makes one think about everything we take for granted and how to prepare for when they are gone. Keep up the good work.
I made a 3/16 rope out off my dogs hair it was 14 inches long. It is very strong I am very proud off my dog rope it took me about 4 hours to makefrom one dog brushing. Buy rope now it makes more sense thank you Southernprepper.
you seem to live in a pretty rural area and seem to have a huge stockpile of goods. Under what conditions would you 'bug out' and what would you bring?
@glockfan86 I have multiply bug out locations. If the situation looks like a wrol situation I will be bugging out to a farm with our group. Their is strengh in numbers. This location is not far but it will be a task moving what I have. We as a group are working out what would trigger the move and how to quickly move everything. This move would be in a worse case situation. If its just a slow economic collapse I would probably stay here.
I have some rope but this video definately helped me to evaluate where I am with rope. Would be interested to see how you store toilet paper because I am having a difficult time figuring out a good way to store and protect it. Thumbs up on another great video. Please keep them coming.
@BALJIT147 That is a good question....I dont know I was over 1000 rolls but I have been using it for the last few months and havent add back to the stock. I need to check and see and add back to it. thanks for reminding me. I could do a video on it and show you how I stock it but that would probably be more boring than the rope video.
@southernprepper1 Boring is a relative term. Don't be afraid to put up a video just because it might be boring. I came here to learn things, not to be entertained. So far, you've done a good job at making the videos both educational and entertaining, especially the "scenario" videos. But, don't be afraid to put up a good food for thought video, even if it's just about toilet paper. LOL.
@southernprepper1 No because i was just sitting here thinking "other than mylar bags how would i store TP" because TP would be a great trading item Why you ask???? Because if you have ever had monkey ass you know why lol

Funny that you made this video. I just got a great deal on 3000 feet of 550# paracord off ebay. Even with shipping (something I always factor when buying online) it was just under $25. Shipping from the US to Canada it's a good deal!
heyyy there seems to be some kind of bird issue going on the last few days ... they are dieing lol ...argentina ....arkansas ..and a few other places recording birds behaving in strange manners
There isn't anything you shouldn't be stock piling with the idea that "enough is never enough". Rule one is always, "do what you can". Garage sales, flea markets, estate sales= great places for what I call "RamenNoodle prepping". This allows you to stretch your dollar to get more prepping done. Probably not a prepper on YT that can afford a Walmart Family D.U.M.B.; which they have. So many scenario's.
in a total economic collapse that is sudden where the grocery stores and gas stations go permanently bare, 1/3 of the united states will be dead or close to dead within 90 days due to starvation, violence, and disease.
@jawbone83 ITs alittle more than a shelf its like a platform. I just built this building its not totally done. I started it 6 weeks ago its 22x24 and it has a shed roof tilted to the back. Iam collecting water of the metal roof. Right behind me in the cornor is a 1500 gal water tank. I should do a video on it when I get it done. In the back I set up a summer kitchen so I can butcher rabbits and chickens and do canning.
@southernprepper1 that sounds like a great vid too. i really havent been disappointed in any of them really. when you get a chance i think you should turn this series into a book.
I am with you on snagging a deal I found ROV LED head lamps on clearance normally $15 $3 I watched them and they dropped to a $1 I bought them all all of them had 3 AAA batteries in them just the batteries are worth $1. You will want that rope you can set all kind of snares and catch any annimals that will go after your chickens the chickens can earn you more meat than they have. Trout lines better have twine for them you set some lines they fish for you all night long toss em in your pond4lata
@WeAllJuggleKnives Come on admit it you liked it. You cant wait till I put my candle video out....I bet you will not get any sleep tonight because you will be waiting for the candle video. I will try to do it tomorrow so you can get some sleep after you watch it.
Very good information! You are right, at least I never have enough rope. I camp with a heavy 10 by 12 cabin tent. Every year I buy new rope for it. This year I will start buying a little extra each time!
Although it's useful to have a range of ropes, cordage and string, think ahead for what you might want rope for and stock with a purpose: tying a tarp on a tornado-damaged roof or a trailer, pulling down a tree, securing a bulky load on a trailer, string and light cord to do everything you use duct tape for today (duct tape's adhesive deteriorates over time - some within 18 months). Then learn whipping and the knots by heart: get cord in bright colours - learn with two contrasting colours.
I started keeping $40 to $50 cash in my wallet just for picking up these kinds of things on the cheap, because it always seems a great deal pops up when you least expected it and a lot of the time it's cash only.
Good info as always. Hit the stores now as there are a lot of clearance items. Yes most are Christmas items, but there are some other depts mixed in as well.
Very good suggestion. I have several 50' ropes, and 1 or 2 100' ones plus a hodgepodge of twine. I always keep a roll or 2 of electric fence wire as well, you would be surprised how often you will find yourself using it if you have it. Also found a deal on some VietNam era surplus tripwire and have about 20 of the 80' spools. I was selling it on ebay but it wasn't moving too well so I quit trying.
we dont make Jack Shite in the US anymore... all it would take is for China to stop buying our worthless buttwipe dollars to crash the supply of virtually everything in the US.
workin on getting lotsa rope, another thing i find useful is bailing wire.that stuff has 1001 uses also, long as you have some wirecutters. but rope would be indespinsable.Another great vid my friend, and happy new year!
Is there anything you don't have? I have watched a lot of prepper videos and I think by far you are the most well rounded prepper I have seen. I was really impressed with the bug out location you posted recently; with the toilet and shacks.

@operator223 - Excellent point. How much really useful stuff can you buy today that is marked (truthfully) made in the USA?

Is there anything you don't have? I have watched a lot of prepper videos and I think by far you are the most well rounded prepper I have seen. I was really impressed with the bug out location you posted recently; with the toilet and shacks.

We're going to need a lot of rope to physically secure and detain neighbors that get out of line in a WROL situation.
