Ian has to be one of the most underated players out there. I don't know how many times I've shown him to cats half my age and they're immediately blown away and they ask who it is and they respond, who? I tell them who he is and Bamm!! right there, they're digging Deep Purple.
You'll find that he's never sloppy, lazy, or boreing. And many of his moves are quite difficult to pull off. So there. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it.
If you want a double-pedal speed demon, with all kinds of poly-rhythmic grooves and mult-layered beats, Ian is not for you. But if you enjoy an old school classic rock drummer, with a jazz-based style, and an instictive touch, very strong singles, doubles, parradidles, and triplets, then Paicey is your man, as he is mine. And, if you're not familiar with ALL of his work, check it out before makeing your final evaluation.
He actually doesn't play a lot of rudiments does he..... he's kinda funky.... don't get me wrong....he's a lovely drummer, his discography is fantastic.. but he's actually playing grade 2 to 4 level here.... it goes way and beyond this.... he's more an artist... people like 'his' playing... rather than he's a technician...
ahah, he plays you fool noone in the beginning, all the time smb asks him to play some old staff and Ian usually doesn't remember it properly=) I mean I suppose 50% of people there play drums and play his patterns note by note they are on records but still they want him to do it

Hast auch immer was zu meckern an ihm, was? Dann schau dir halt keine Videos von ihm an, wenn du ihn nicht magst ;-)

it may seem easy to choke a crash like that on the groove but choking a 22'' one isn't that easy!!

Once again, he comes through for his fans, giving it his all. Most commendable work on this particular solo. Simply splendid.
