Also, being a huge Bruce Lee fan, I geeked out when I first heard of this movie. Donnie Yen did a good job at playing Ip Man in my opinion and Wilson Yip did a tremendous job in direction. That's something I think everyone can agree on.
I'm not gonna start an argument on youtube; that's just stupid. If there are any resources you can find, please bring them to my attention
I thought we could all be good sports but now I'm gonna have to say something:
1. This was a high school project I did during my junior year for ap US history
2. This IS one of my favorite movies. Being a martial artist myself, I have a huge appreciation for the choreography and direction of the movie itself.
3. I did do all the research I could. I had to come to the conclusion with the given evidence available. Given me more time and your guys' resources, this might've been different
Nope, you are wrong. The war is called "Second Sino-Japanese War" and it starts on 7th July 1937 with the incident near Luogouqiao (a.k.a. Marco Polo Bridge incident). You have no proof that Yip Man was not living on the streets.
idk about this review because i train under an intructor who learned from yip mans nephew. i think he did have that epic fight but he didnt fight the gen. he fought the japanese head intructor and defeated him so the japanese sent a praying mantis master to kill him in a martial arts battle. yip man defeated him in three moves then escapd to hong kong. idk about the timeline so i cant say anything about that
I'm wasn't surprise it was inaccurate since it was kind of weird to have a material art competition during war time. Same with the the 2nd movie with the insane boxer(that man make me want to punch him in the neck). It's all for melodrama. It was a loosely base movie and most people that know the real IP man are probably dead by now so I wouldn't be surprise if the screen play writer tweak the whole thing. No one should take cinema stories seriously since most of them are inaccurate.
ummm...your so called "Historical Review of Ip Man" is in itself flawed since this movie was not made by Hollywood. You should practice what you preach - get your facts straight. lol.

Great review man!
It's kinda sad knowing there's no actual epic smake-down of the japanese army.
But, nah, it's damn epic movie. It's still awesome as Fearless.
Thanks for sharing anyway!
