@zillafire101 akira ifukube was master yoda.i don't know why,but when i see him i always think about yoda from star wars.hahaha.greetings from poland ;)
@zillafire101 in my country politics are steal money to they own pockets and say that everything is alright.they lie about everything....last thing what they do was auwful...minister of health change the price of medicaments and drugs about 100%...poor old people in poland don't have enough money so they can not live easy beucase of these thiefs...but food we have good as hell.haha.PIEROGI are good ;)
Saying Ifukube is like John Williams like saying that Bach was like Chopin! Utter nonsense...they are BOTH masters of their own unique styles and I love them BOTH!
This is the best thing ever. And I send my regards to the japanese people and hope they make a full recovery. If they can survive and rebuild after WW2 or a Godzilla attack they can pull through this.
Ifukube did not like Wagner, nor many Romantic era composers. Comparing Ifukube to John Williams is very superficial; both wrote in an epic style for sci-fi films, but that's where the similarities end. Ifukube is probably closer in style and philosophy to another film composer, Wojciech Kilar, or even Prokofiev and Shostakovich in their film scores. And I think it is too forward to say Ifukube was the Mozart or Handel of Japan or of Asia.
today 11-3-11 the earthquake in northern japan i find it hard to find words cos we don't get such things of that scale in the UK so it is hard for me to understand. but i send my best wishes and know the great people of JAPAN will be ok.
R.I.P Akira Ifukube It sucks Toho didnt use more of your work in the last set of Godzilla movies. A damn shame. Though some of music in the movies were pretty good.
One of the very best of 20th Century Composers. He is, of course, best known for the scores he composed for the Godzilla films, but he also composed many works for solo piano, chamber orchestra, and, of course, symphony orchestra.
i was of other of his songs...its quite easy...especially when you have certain computer programs...you transpose the string instruments, which are mostly in the key of C, to other instruments of marching to their keys... it may not sound like it completely, but it is more of a march...plus i would like to play some of the marches he wrote...
yeah...sounds like a good idea, i would love to play some of marches he wrote as well...i have finale notepad and i might be able to find a midi file of some of the music and then i could look at the music that way.
Williams is also best known for series as well :D.
His most famous work being SW, Indy, and Supes. Not to mention he also became the Potter theme guy too.
I would say John Williams is a far more versatile composer overall, though. About the only thing Akira and John both have in common is that they both rule :D. They both listened to Wagner too lol.
There really isn't any major film composer from the US that sounds like Ifukube did.
@Briestro Interesting what you say about Wagner. I know for sure about the influence on John Williams, but I haven't come across anything about his influence on Ifukube (Stravinsky for sure). That said, I liked Ifukube's scores years before I got into Wagner, and I think there are definite similarities. If it turns out that Wagner was indeed an influence, I wouldn't be surprised. (Leitmotifs, anyone?)
These are ALL of my favorite songs! I just wished that they played the theme where Godzilla raids Osaka in GxB and the theme "Attack of the Super X III"

he blows john williams out of the water... no questions asked. there is NO comparison.
John Williams has a few really great pieces, but his body is not as nearly impressive.

you would have to get a special arrangment because marching bands don't have violins and other string instruments.
