I am extremely disappointed with Pinnacle Studio 14. I purchased it with the intention to convert my old VHS tapes into DVD format, however, this program cannot synchronize voice and image. Again, if your video output is not NTSC, it won't recognize any colours. I feel like I have wasted my money and time. Here is some advice: DON'T BUY IT! There is better stuff in the market.
@SCHMALZ1966 I am sorry to hear that you are having issues. If the video is captured from an analog source, then there is a good chance that the computer is dropping frames on capture. Do you have a second hard drive that is 7200rpm that u are recording to? I have found that trying to run software and record video to that same drive (the C Drive) can cause issues. I fixed it by capturing to the second hard drive in my computer. I am also going to send u a link that will help. Cheers,Anthony

Also you mentioned NTSC that is the standard in North America. Every region uses a different standard for SD television. For example, PAL is from Europe and SECAM is in Asia. If you are using Pinnacle Studio and it is set for NTSC and you are bringing in a PAL signal you are going to have problems with color, sync and picture.

@firemusic82 Have you actually exported the HD Video in 1920x1080? Or are you just looking at the video on the timeline preview window. If you are looking at the video on the timeline preview you may have the Settings not playing back at full resoloution...you will be able to see this under Settings in Pinnacle Studio.
I hate pinnacle studio! Whenever I open it up it freezes, so then I use movie maker which would be great since I used that before people told me to install Pinnacle but now when I open movie maker, pinnacle automatically opens open and freezes movie maker as well, and when I try to uninstall pinnacle studio, my computer freezes and I have to restart! @Devestato72 Yes simply look for the tool that looks like a razor blade. You can use that tool to cut the video out that you want and then you can move the video around the timeline. It is very simple to do.
@Honolulki You need to look for a software that does Rotoscoping. That is the technique used to cut someone out of a video when it was not shot on a green or blue screen. It is a process but can be done.

I have been working with Pinnacle since version 7 came out. It looks good, but it is programmed by a bunch of high school students. It hangs, locks up, blows up, puts water marks on stuff you have purchased and unlocked. Today I worked all day on a 1 hour training video. When I went to render it out as a .mpg file it went to the time line at 10 minutes and stopped. I don't need this. I am looking for a video editor that works. They dollar you to death when you want extra things.

@ABL36 The capture is brand new and incorporates more importing...many of the new cameras capture digital content and the new capture tool makes it easy to transfer those videos. There is also a new Motion Title tool that allows you to make incredible animated titles (this only comes with the Ultimate and Ultimate Collection). The Ultimate Collection also comes with 6 plug ins from Red Giant software which are incredible.
quick question....how precise is the splicing on this software? in windows movie maker 2.6 it's not very accurate....the video skips every :07 frames.... is this software more precise....does that question make sense?

@gateopenope Do you know if you are shooting NTSC or PAL? If you are in the US, then you need to edit NTSC and if you are in Europe, then PAL is probably what you are shooting. This is kind of based on where you live and where you bought your camera from.

I tried to do a cloning video where I recorded myself in two different places in one spot of the vid. I split them into two and had one overlap the other. I went to its picture in picture feature and tried to combine them by scaling and cropping but got this HUGE black bar in between and no matter how much cropping I did, the clips seemed to avoid or push themselves out of frame and never meet. Is there any way to fix this?
@gostars3000 In Picture in Picture...first select the Preset Full Screen...now select the crop tool and set up the split screen...the bar you are looking at might be a border selected...just make sure that your border width is set to zero.

@PCVJsTasmania Capture your videos using the Pinnacle Video Transfer to a hard drive and then plug the hard drive into your computer and move the videos to your harddrive. Now you will be able to edit them in Pinnacle Studio.

@kev131000 Ultimate and Ultimate Collection are different. Ultimate Collection comes with 4 more plug-ins from Red Giant Software: Shine, Particular, 3D Stroke and Knoll Light Factory. The Ultimate Collection is worth getting because those plug-ins would be really expensive on there own.

@PantherFan1582 Just make sure you decide what version you are getting. There are 3 to choose from. The Ultimate Collecition is the most expensive one and comes with all of the effects and plug-ins. Ultimate is the middle one for Studio and comes with all of the effects except for 4 plug-ins from Red Giant. And the basic Pinnacle Studio 14 HD is the beginners level that has effects but not all of them.

@ninja55035 It's loading the effect, sometimes it takes a minute . It's also the trial so that could be why. I loved the software though, simple platform so I went and bought the program. It will have a green bar above your video footage, that means it's loading the effect, when the green bar is gone the clip is ready.
@pattyk77 The green bar means that the program is rendering your effect in the background. You can turn that feature off by going into your Setup (pull down menu) and selecting "Video and Audio Preferences". You will then see that you can choose to turn off "Enable Background Rendering". I recommend turning this off if your computer is older or slower.

@ABL36 The capture is brand new and incorporates more importing...many of the new cameras capture digital content and the new capture tool makes it easy to transfer those videos. There is also a new Motion Title tool that allows you to make incredible animated titles (this only comes with the Ultimate and Ultimate Collection). The Ultimate Collection also comes with 6 plug ins from Red Giant software which are incredible.

quick question....how precise is the splicing on this software? in windows movie maker 2.6 it's not very accurate....the video skips every :07 frames.... is this software more precise....does that question make sense?

@gateopenope Do you know if you are shooting NTSC or PAL? If you are in the US, then you need to edit NTSC and if you are in Europe, then PAL is probably what you are shooting. This is kind of based on where you live and where you bought your camera from.

@realjuvelive Take a look at the Montage Themes...Look at the MultiLayer Mix. It will let you bring 6 videos on the screen.

I tried to do a cloning video where I recorded myself in two different places in one spot of the vid. I split them into two and had one overlap the other. I went to its picture in picture feature and tried to combine them by scaling and cropping but got this HUGE black bar in between and no matter how much cropping I did, the clips seemed to avoid or push themselves out of frame and never meet. Is there any way to fix this?

@gostars3000 In Picture in Picture...first select the Preset Full Screen...now select the crop tool and set up the split screen...the bar you are looking at might be a border selected...just make sure that your border width is set to zero.

This guy is misleading ...Because all the plugin's DO NOT come with studio HD 14 You've gotta buy Collection to get all the plugins and video effects altho he does say these plugin are only for Ultimate and Ultimate Collection he fail's to state the fact that if you didn't buy Collection then you'll have to BUY them as add on's !!!

@PCVJsTasmania Capture your videos using the Pinnacle Video Transfer to a hard drive and then plug the hard drive into your computer and move the videos to your harddrive. Now you will be able to edit them in Pinnacle Studio.

Yessir !! And if you just buy Ultimate you'll only get two Red Giant plugins and if you get Ultimate collection you get all of them , Shine , 3d magic bullet , 3d stroke and much more !! it's a good amount of stuff for only 120$ !!

@kev131000 Ultimate and Ultimate Collection are different. Ultimate Collection comes with 4 more plug-ins from Red Giant Software: Shine, Particular, 3D Stroke and Knoll Light Factory. The Ultimate Collection is worth getting because those plug-ins would be really expensive on there own.

@MrPopyotop Creative Pack 1 contains: 28 New Titles,16 Seasonal DVD Menu Sets and 5 New Pinnacle Montage Themes. Magic Bullet comes with Ultimate or Ultimate Collection. Shine only comes with Ultimate Collection.

@PantherFan1582 Just make sure you decide what version you are getting. There are 3 to choose from. The Ultimate Collecition is the most expensive one and comes with all of the effects and plug-ins. Ultimate is the middle one for Studio and comes with all of the effects except for 4 plug-ins from Red Giant. And the basic Pinnacle Studio 14 HD is the beginners level that has effects but not all of them.

this seems very user friendly, not crowded with junk I don't need like in sony's. Simple platform, I can't stand having 50,000 tools I will never probably use or figure out. I need to focus on the story and not tweaking every little frame. I'll give pinnacle a shot

hey i have the trial and when i go too slow down the clip it doesnt show the actuall video, it has a black screen and a big blue exclamation mark, oh and sorry for my spelling but can you help me if you can please reply, thanks

@ninja55035 It's loading the effect, sometimes it takes a minute . It's also the trial so that could be why. I loved the software though, simple platform so I went and bought the program. It will have a green bar above your video footage, that means it's loading the effect, when the green bar is gone the clip is ready.

@pattyk77 The green bar means that the program is rendering your effect in the background. You can turn that feature off by going into your Setup (pull down menu) and selecting "Video and Audio Preferences". You will then see that you can choose to turn off "Enable Background Rendering". I recommend turning this off if your computer is older or slower.

You must have the right graphic card, which enables you to enlarge the preview window.
Too old graphic cards, which do not accept e.g. 1920x1080 will not work if you want to enlarge bigger or smaller preview window.
