  • @womenpower2008 LOL all this time you thought saiyaan meant shadow in all those songs?? Are you from India (I mean originally, obv your from UK)? And is Hindi the native language in the part of India you originate from?

  • What is your nationality?

  • Hey this pretty good! Which program did you use to displays these letters .. im looking to do something similar but in Punjabi .. please Help!

  • Hi! I'm glad you liked this. I used 'whiteboard' a program which is actually meant for skype, and a screen recording program. If you need other details let me know. I'm looing forward to your Punjabi video since i was learning gurumukhi ;)

  • very good. Im Indian by descent and if your not Indian then i must accept your pronunciation is very very good, i couldnt tell if you were not a native speaker, although i presumre you are not indian, but i dont know you must be Indian, i have lived in west for whole life and even i cant pronunciate some hard words, westerns jsut cant. hats off to you if your not indian.

  • well, no, I'm not Indian, but thanks for your comment, Hindi is one of my greatest passions!

  • hi, I learn Indian classical music and researched on the language of music quite extensively, 'oh saiyan' means 'oh, my love', shadow is 'chhaaya'.

  • shadow is also called "saya". But add a another 2 letters and it becomes 'my love' "saiyan"

    :-)

brainiyack101 probably missed these this difference.

    cheers!

  • sure, but the two words sound different

  • i just love that movie slumdog millionaire and i just wanted to know what that song mean iin english and how to sing it in w/e that language is !! :))

  • most of the words of the song are in English, most others are not actual words, it's a nice song but you don't need to know Hindi in order to sing it...if you listen closely you will realize it

  • i would like to know what laguage the Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack - O... Saya and how to sing it

  • you are welcome! learning a language must be simple because we need to use it and appreciate it first of all.

  • Thanks so much for this, been trying to learn the hindi alphabet and having some trouble.

  • Namaste!

You're a very good teacher. I just took notes of the first lesson and I'm looking forward to learn more. Thank you!

  • good ;)

  • Although I am in the very early days of learning Hindi, this has proved the most useful resource I have come across so far. Thank you for taking the time to compose it - it is greatly appreciated!

  • that is very good to know, I'm glad! I'm also giving free and discounted group classes, you can check my channel for more information!

  • my pleasue ;)

  • why are you interested in hindi if not indian.nice to see that me myself am a hindi and excellent at hindi in all ways.i like to make international friends so would you like to be a friend.

  • You don't need to be Indian to be interested in Hindi or any other aspect of Indian culture. I've been learning Hindi and Indian classical music since long and my interest increases each day more...

  • Just cuz you don't have an accent, doesn't mean you aren't a native speaker.

  • can you clear this concept please?

  • In many ways India and the United States have much in common in that they are the reflections of many cultures and these reflections continue to shimmer brightly. The one given, however, is that India has been "shimmering" brightly for many more years as Sanscript goes back thousands of tears! Jai Hind!

  • you mean Sanskrit?

  • cool!

  • Good job.

  • upload your own video and then I'll learn perfect Hindi from you!

  • you're welcome

  • why do you speak English if you are not British?

  • The Taj Mahal (correct spelling) is a fusion of both culture and has been made by Indian sculptors. Please, be constructive in your comments. You cannot deny history, I'm sorry.

  • Hi, 'ri' is a vocal sound, that is the main difference between it and 'ra' in Hindi, there is no Hindi sound such as the English 'r', this has been attested by phonetists. If you want to make a remark, please be clearer. You probably want to say that the 'ri' sound is untrilled and the tongue is slightly put backward. I'm not a native speaker and that may not be clear in the recording, anyway you cannot certainly say that ri is comparable to English 'r'.

  • Please stop iconising the 'Taj Mehl' for indian culture!

For gods sake 'Its PERSIAN' by make!!!

anyways it looks so much like the arabic n middle-east stuff

Its not Indian, not by culture or even architecture for that cause.

India is more like the temples down south and in bodh gaya

  • that's very nice, interest is the main thing you need... if you want to know more also visit the free blog, the link is on the video information, on the right of the video.

  • hindi is very difficult unlike japanese or any european language.me myself am a hindi and be a friend and i will tell you what all you should tell your hubby to impress him.

  • well, every language is 'difficult' if you want to learn it properly, I don't think Hindi is harder than Japanese, it always depends on the student's background...

  • And by spring break, I mean Thanksgiving break in the USA, Nov 22-30, which is less than two months away. Let's get cracking!

  • Hi Steven! I'm glad this could help..I plan to make the complete alphabet like this. It's nice that you are being so enthsiastic, keep it up! Don't forget to visit the blog also (see the video info) with other stuff

  • Great job! Too bad Ilias512 isn't learning Hindi, because he came to the right place.

This video, along with a audio recording of my grandfather reading out the 16 vowels, and the wikipedia article showing the diacritic forms, is giving me a great head start. I plan to burn through the alphabet first, and then run Rosetta Stone. I'll be visiting my grandparents for spring break and I'll have already jumped the basic hurdles, and can start with communication and grammar. Thanks again!

  • Hi, the videos and the podcast are free and for beginners, easly enjoyable for anyone, even if you don't plan to learn Hindi, if you like Indian culture, they could be a nice way to getting interested and learn new things. I often browse resources on other languages I don't activly learn, but if I like them I find them inspiring anyway...asyou said..who knows...

  • Very nice job ! It's quite difficult to learn such an exotic language as Hindi, and it's great to help people learn this beautiful alphabet. I wish I could speak Hindi without much effort !...

  • Hi! I'm glad this helped you, there is always an effort when we learn a foreign language...Hindi may be exotic, but afterall it's an Indoeuropen language so you can certainly find some familiarity... I'll upload more stuff soon and I invite you to visit my blog where I'll soon start a free Hindi podcast!

  • Oh, I'm sorry, it's a mistake : I don't learn Hindi ! I speak fluently French & German, I have a middle level in English and I'm learning Russian. In fact, I'm fond of Indian culture, but I have no time to learn Hindi (and I never had opportunities to learn it at school)... What I meant was that you made a great job for those who have the opportunity to learn Hindi ! (Maybe, one day, this video may help me, when I'll start learning Hindi ! Who knows...)

  • hello and thanks for your comment! Yes, I think there are many ways to show the Hindi letters and those are great to learn how to read new symbols, but whenever I learn a new alphabet I invariably ask myself how should I start tracing the lines...I thought this could be useful and I'm glad you apreciated it!

  • great job showing how to write hindi letters
