If you're getting this amp i strongly recommend an eq pedal it makes this amp sound 100x better some models almost sound as if they have a blanket over them and an eq takes it off great amp though
Great amp, and a interesting player. But why does he act so weird. It's like, "Hey I can play pretty good, so I have an excuse to act like a douche bag, and make stupid faces." I guess some people never grow up.
I´ve never looked into vox amps for metal really so I´ve been stuck to Peavey and Marshall, but this vid made me rethink, and it goes for a really reasonable price for a decent tube amp!
@kumarramesh46 hey, yes you can but you either need an electro acoustic or if you just have a regular acoustic then you can buy acoustic guitar pickups which you just slot in to the soundhole and then plug the lead into the jack input attached to the pickup and away you go. :-)
All, One question. Can this VOX amp for electric guitar be used for a acoustic guitar ? Is there any way to play this amp for acoustic guitar ? Please share your knowledge on this.. Appreciate your help... Thanks.
@JttM199 Thx for getting back , try a 50 watt closed back & i will promise you , you will trade in the open back version cuz the closed back sounds 4 times better . Great post by the way.
I have a problem that when i play a power chord from E and A string the sound is kinda ''muddy'' and now that i watch videos about vox vt it shouldn't be like that. so its probably about my guitar. i have just changed the strings. should i try new pickups? my guitar is Washburn x10, one of those cheap ones..
@simsdogg92 it can cost up to that, if you buy two diffirent EMG's not in a set that can be around $200 then if you dont know how to install them it can cost UP TO $50 per pickup. so maby around 300. but thats why i said UP TO. because thats the most it could cost
@Worzx get some new pickups. that guy who said that it can cost of to 400 bucks is lying...you can find really good pickups for under 100 bucks. and installing them is easy as hell too
Dave - I gotta say - you're really enjoyable to watch and lots of personality. You seem comfortable in front of the camera. And your playing is excellent - nice variance!
I'm buying a VT100 because of this review - so you have done a nice job proving its a good product and something I may enjoy.
I'm also acquiring my first semi hollow - a Gretsch Country Gentleman 6122-1959. Can you tell me what you think of Chet style stuff on the VOX VT100?? I'll have the TV Jones top of the line pickups
The dudes a douche, but he knows how to play. He's one of those guys who " thinks " he's cool, but is definitely not. Sorry man, those Tats aren't fooling anyone.
@KIAVAS yes you can use your own pedals with it, just like any other amp, as for an example you can use distortion pedal to give it more metal to it....
i just bought a vt100 amp its amazing, im looking for a VC12SV foot controller and cant seem to find one to buy, where do i find one? is it out yet? i seen it on the vox website but not to buy?
i just bought a vt100 amp its amazing, im looking for a VC12SV foot controller and cant seem to find one to buy, where do i find one? is it out yet? i seen it on the vox website but not to buy?
@goingnowere101 depends which sound you want, a marshall will get you a thick heavy american tone which (even though the strat is american) for me it doesnt suit it, vox gives that ultimate english tone which is thinner than marshall but the vt100 does have a massive tonal range so with the vox your gonna win either way
@Saesangism i find the vox ones to be pretty good, you gotta crank them or else they are pretty muddy, i suggest getting an eq pedal with one though, i find the eq of the amp to not be very responsive
@Saesangism they are both very very good but have their weaknesses and strengths, valve amps are gonna have the most simple control layout, if you buy a very expensive head then they are gonna have a lot on controls but never a lot of effects and NEVER amp models or presets but will sound AMAZING plus theyre designed to be tun at high volumes for a long time, in the intruction manual it even says to not put a fan behind it!
@Saesangism my reply wouldnt fit into 1 comment. so modelling amps can be very very good as well as valve amps, but modelling amps have soooo many more sounds than a valve amp but a valve amp has that 1 sound that everyone wants. so with modelling amps, you wont get that tube warmth because they are solid state and therefore wont be able to go as loud as a valve and wont sound as good either. but in this amps case you do get some tube warmth. modelling amps can also be more affordable as well
@Saesangism Full tube amps have a much sweeter, richer sound, more analog and real sounding. Modeling amps are almost always digital, and have no tubes at all. The only real advantage to solid state amps (digital amps) is that some people argue the clean tones are better on them. Personally I disagree. Tube amps simply are better as far as good quality, great sound. Only famous player that didn't use one was Dimebag. Does that help you?
@Botdra I assure you that if you were to hear the real versions of the fender and vox models on this amp, as well as the real versions, you would not have 100% success in picking out the real thing. The valvetronix vt series is the best sounding modeling amp i've played period. It does sound digital in a couple of the higher gain modes, but not all.
@jnuhjnuh I have, as far as the Fender models. But I have to say I prefer the sound of tubes. Yes it sounds very similar, but the models do not imitate the true tube sound of the amps. It does help that it has a tube in the power amp section, but that's about it. Plus tube amps are very different in how they sit in a mix, they are less pronounced and more organic, allowing them to fade into the background subtly or stand out. It's much harder to be subtle with a digital amp. My opinion anyways.
@Botdra I could always tell by playing them thet they were modeled because the models dont play like the real thing... I had a harder time discerning when i wasnt the one holding the guitar.
@jnuhjnuh I can agree with that, just saying I do hear quite a difference in tone, that you will hear a difference in a band setting, and you will FEEL the difference when you play. But yeah, it is more in how the amp FEELS when playing sometimes.
Hi there i have a bit of an issue about the VFS5 footswitch, in manual mode, channel 2 doesn't seem to scroll between the intervals of the pitch, i also made sure that the pitch effect isn't bypassed. can anyone tell me how this could be fixed? thanks

Dave, Thanks, great demo!I'm looking fo something with great warm blues sound, and these Vox VT series demos seem to be the ticket and best I've heard for achieving that. Also, I'm sick off everyone constantly concentrating on "shredding" metal sounds on their demos. C'mon guys..we're not all into Metallica. Plus I'd like someone to demo amps with a variety of guitars, for instance, I'd like to hear what this sounds like with something like a Gibson es335 "BB King" Lucille plugged in.
@onlyforbrian By the way Dave (or anyone who knows) you are obviously professional, but sorry I've missed you somehow. I'd love to hear you on CDs of your work. Are you a session player or what groups are you associated with. Needless to say, love your playing...personality too..you're definitely someone I could share a few beers with. Thanks for the video.
HI! I bought a VT100 some days ago, all I can say is that I'm a little disappointed with it, it does not sounds not even close to what I hear in this video, and other videos on the net... I'm realy confused because all the people only talk about how great is this amplifier. Maybe some one can explane me what's the point, and how do I get this cristal sound from my VT 100?
@easystarter consider adding an EQ to your effect loop to boost the sound a little. Also ensure your playing a little loud as these amps sound much better with some air moving through them.. Beyond that a lot of tone is coming from the skill of the player.
This amp is serious, if you need a good amp for not too much money. It's not tube power like he saidit's some kind of circuit that takes advantage of the one tube connected to a solid state power stage to make a tube amp sound, it's hard to explain but I know it works . It's not just a tube preamp it actually sounds Fully tube. I tried at least 50 amps and this was the best to my ears for under 600 bucks.
The VT100 amps are great and sound awesome in the right hands. I went to an advanced guitar clinic recently in the UK and the guitarist there used one all day..I think he's an endorser, he said he used it to record his instrumental album too. check out the link to the clinic
My Vt is new out of the shop. But that part on the video when he uses channel two on the floor board to change the pitch does not work. But it works if I use the tap button on the amp.Anyone else got this problem ?
Mine vox is also very dark sounding, but kinda like it now after some playing. I heard that even cheap EQ can really bright it sound but didn't really tested it yet.
This hits the recorded Hendrix tones perfectly!!! Everyone thinks that it was a Marhsall that was recorded. It was a multitude of really rare and classic tube amps. Like the Sun amp used on Voodoo Child. The Vox Valvetronix really does hit those tones. THANK YOU VOX!!! VOX 4ever!!! I want a fucking endorsement deal like right NOW!!!
@alexdaman8 Fucking NIIICE bro!!! If ur after those Hendrix tones this is the way to go along with some fuzz. This has that subtle vintage overdrive that can be achieved by cranking ur amp, and that mellow vintage clean. This is the closest thing to those Vintage amps Hendrix used when he recorded.
i bought the vt50 yesterday before doing any research...just an impulse at from guitar center. i usually don;t buy anything without doing my research but oh well. let me tell you i sure am glad i did. this thing sounds GREAT! kind of wish i went for the 100 because you can never have enough power!! maybe i will take the $100 i saved on the vt50 and invest it into a footswitch. AWESOME AMP! could not be happier...
tombayly13: Believe me when I tell you that the Vox VT100 and the Marshall Mg15DFX are in 2 different worlds. the Vox is a Ferrari and the Marshall is a Ford.
I just bought one a couple of weeks ago and it is really cool. I was used to playing 6505+ halfstack so it took a few days to get used to it. Takes a little time to figure out what setting work with which amp models. Go ahead and get a cheap EQ pedal to put in the effects loop. THis amp puts out tons of lower end frequencies and that helps clean it up. The sound you can get out of it are worth the money
So...I don't know my amp tech so don't burn me lol. I've got a Line 6 Pod X3, Would running that through the effects loop sound alright on this thing? Because this thing sounds great, but I love the versatility of my Pod.
Also, one thing that is a must have these days is that watt control. That means you can drive the tube at low volumes and get the same effect as if you are pushing it at high volumes. Is that true it can go down to 1 watt? Or was that a joke too, lol.
To me the lead solo toward the end says a lot because you can hear the way the pick attack comes through with that tubey smooth attack and release. Between that and the first two songs showing the clean sounds, you just can't get that from Line 6. I wish this had less useless fx and more EQ or something instead but this can rock without any fx which is where you need to start and where Line 6 does not shine as well.
As long as you mic it in a similar manner it will probably sound the same. Double check every specification because this does sound really good whereas his video running the pedal isn't quite as clean sounding. Also check out the Digitech 2120 if you want a more smooth realistic tube tone (also has superior modeling over these for direct sound).
@reverweb By the way Dave (or anyone who knows) you are obviously professional, but sorry I've missed you somehow. I'd love to hear you on CDs of your work. Are you a session player or what groups are you associated with. Needless to say, love your playing...personality too..you're definitely someone I could share a few beers with. Thanks for the video.

@easystarter consider adding an EQ to your effect loop to boost the sound a little. Also ensure your playing a little loud as these amps sound much better with some air moving through them.. Beyond that a lot of tone is coming from the skill of the player.

You rock Dave!
I've got the VT30. I've had Marshalls and Fenders in the past. I can't say enough good things about it. Best amp I've ever owned.
paqman78 1 year ago
this is a great high gain/Dirty channel amp. I use this for my dirty channel and Fender twin for clean amp/channel

Thanks Dave is a very cool Demo !!!

He seems like a nice guy and a good player, but sometimes he needs to drop the goofball persona.

Mine vox is also very dark sounding, but kinda like it now after some playing. I heard that even cheap EQ can really bright it sound but didn't really tested it yet.

2:44 is the PERFECT clean tone for Hendrix. U can build upon that tone for ANYTHING Hendrix!!!

2:44 is the PERFECT Hendrix Clean Tone. With that u can build up everything that mofo did!!!
Hendrixidol 1 year ago
this is a very underrated amp... you can get ANYTHING from perfect clean jazz tones to Melodic death metal.
scrotzki789 1 year ago
This hits the recorded Hendrix tones perfectly!!! Everyone thinks that it was a Marhsall that was recorded. It was a multitude of really rare and classic tube amps. Like the Sun amp used on Voodoo Child. The Vox Valvetronix really does hit those tones. THANK YOU VOX!!! VOX 4ever!!! I want a fucking endorsement deal like right NOW!!!
Hendrixidol 1 year ago
how does this thing run (clean) with effects?(pedals/stompboxes)
alexdaman8 1 year ago
@alexdaman8 Fucking NIIICE bro!!! If ur after those Hendrix tones this is the way to go along with some fuzz. This has that subtle vintage overdrive that can be achieved by cranking ur amp, and that mellow vintage clean. This is the closest thing to those Vintage amps Hendrix used when he recorded.

could be the vt50 enough to play in a band, with drummer and all these things?
6ppk9 1 year ago
the vt50 is good for medium and some semi-large gigs. nothing really big though.
Fluffypopcicle 1 year ago
the vt50 is easily loud enough to play with a drummer. The 100 is not very much louder then the 50 the difference is minor

@6ppk9 HELL YEAH!!! And if ur playing in a stadium...just mic the thing. It carries NICE!!!

i bought the vt50 yesterday before doing any research...just an impulse at from guitar center. i usually don;t buy anything without doing my research but oh well. let me tell you i sure am glad i did. this thing sounds GREAT! kind of wish i went for the 100 because you can never have enough power!! maybe i will take the $100 i saved on the vt50 and invest it into a footswitch. AWESOME AMP! could not be happier...

tombayly13: Believe me when I tell you that the Vox VT100 and the Marshall Mg15DFX are in 2 different worlds. the Vox is a Ferrari and the Marshall is a Ford.
chrismcgon 2 years ago 26
i'd say the marshall is more of a run down transit van.

i'm considering of getting this amp, as an upgrade from my Marshall MG15DFX.
Is it worth getting?
tombayly13 2 years ago
@tombayly13
I think it is, but go check out a store and try it out yourself. That's the best way to know.
wijnand55 2 years ago
@wijnand55 thats what im gonna do at the weekend :)
can't wait!
tombayly13 2 years ago
I just bought one a couple of weeks ago and it is really cool. I was used to playing 6505+ halfstack so it took a few days to get used to it. Takes a little time to figure out what setting work with which amp models. Go ahead and get a cheap EQ pedal to put in the effects loop. THis amp puts out tons of lower end frequencies and that helps clean it up. The sound you can get out of it are worth the money
Akasha520 2 years ago
So...I don't know my amp tech so don't burn me lol. I've got a Line 6 Pod X3, Would running that through the effects loop sound alright on this thing? Because this thing sounds great, but I love the versatility of my Pod.

Finally A good review of the Valvetronix, awseome and amazing playing, hard not to sound good out of your fingers mate! :)

Yeah, the AD 50 and 100 both have a digital effects loop.

mains711 2 years ago 5
Also, one thing that is a must have these days is that watt control. That means you can drive the tube at low volumes and get the same effect as if you are pushing it at high volumes. Is that true it can go down to 1 watt? Or was that a joke too, lol.
Whyrendog 2 years ago 3
@ Whyrendog
No, he was close but you can actualy turn it back to 0,4 Watts :P Wich isn´t even hard enough for your bedroom.
wijnand55 2 years ago
To me the lead solo toward the end says a lot because you can hear the way the pick attack comes through with that tubey smooth attack and release. Between that and the first two songs showing the clean sounds, you just can't get that from Line 6. I wish this had less useless fx and more EQ or something instead but this can rock without any fx which is where you need to start and where Line 6 does not shine as well.
Whyrendog 2 years ago 3
@Whyrendog Hey man should i get this amp or do you think the tonelab st pedal would sound good through an ac15 vox all tube?
eatthemoon13 2 years ago
As long as you mic it in a similar manner it will probably sound the same. Double check every specification because this does sound really good whereas his video running the pedal isn't quite as clean sounding. Also check out the Digitech 2120 if you want a more smooth realistic tube tone (also has superior modeling over these for direct sound).
Whyrendog 2 years ago
I have always wanted his tone. And technique too. This is awesome. I wondered if there was such a thing.
