That is a Korg chromatic tuner that is not made anymore - after 12 years of service, it finally died. Go to a guitar chop and ask for a korg chromatic tuner - $20- $25 -Mark
"On 'Africa' you hear a combination of marimba with GS 1. The kalimba is all done with the GS 1; it's six tracks of GS 1 playing different rhythms. I wrote the song on CS-80, so that plays the main part of the entire tune."
So, the sound is in the song, but the actual instrument is not.
Dear Simply - if you go to KalimbaMagic on the web, scan down the left side column and click on LEARN TO PLAY - then find the TREBLE KALIMBA page and have at it! This page links to many free resources, as well as some books and downloads. Good luck! -Mark
I've tuned thousands of times, and ONCE (on a different type of kalimba with different tine material) the metal fatigued and a tine hurt my finger - basically it shaved off my callous (from tuning kalimbas), and I'm sitting there thinking "OK, that was really really bad, but why doesn't it hurt?" I had to tune 7 of those kalimbas today, and wow, I am always very careful when doing that now!!!!
Never had trouble with the Hugh Tracey tines breaking. -Mark
Same here, thanks a lot, doesn't need it now of course just got it for Christmiss but still, valuable info indeed. Also I didn't know how to get reverb, I thought you had to manipulate the holes in back but it's actually in front...duh LOL
This was helpful as I just got a Kalimba shipped to me which was brutally out of tune. Thank you.

Mark,
Could you use a guitar tuner that you plug into on a Kalimba with a pickup so it would be digital?

Africa, the song by the band Toto:
"On 'Africa' you hear a combination of marimba with GS 1. The kalimba is all done with the GS 1; it's six tracks of GS 1 playing different rhythms. I wrote the song on CS-80, so that plays the main part of the entire tune."

Those electronic tuners are very sensitive to noise. Even the buzzing of lights in a room can cause it to go haywire.

I'm looking for a tuner. Are you using a Guitar tuner or a Chormatic tuner? Does it matter which type?

I just started playing and was amazed at the sound. when I play it on top of a bare wood cabinet the sound resonates through the wood
