Also, this seemed to work fine with the new 2.3.5 Gingerbread upgrade. The AT&T warning remains at the top of the tethering page, but it hooks up just fine. And - BONUS - it eliminates the force close issue after charging that came along with the upgrade.

For those who are concerned about AT&T catching you, do a search for "att-isnt-targeting-unauthoriz­ed-android-tethering-and-may-n­ever".

Bottom line seems to be that Androids are harder to catch than iPhones, are a fraction of the market and don't represent the biggest offenders due to the legacy unlimited plans being mostly held by old iPhone users.

Ok...I am on the old unlimited plan. I simply need to know from the uploader if this is trackable by att? I am not looking for guarantees, I just need to know if the folks who wrote the comments down there are nutz. I don't know how they would if we disable the software. Please answer...I think we are getting ripped just like all the INSANE bank charges so I am ok doing it. But I would like a little reassurance. They will change your account automatically! They will end you original "grandfathered" unlimited plan and put you on the $45 tethering plan.

I just went in and "force closed" the tethering manager and it's doing the same thing as this.  I did not root my phone or install anything else. It's bone stock.

Just last week my "phone carrier" sent me a letter and told me that they had seen that I had tethered my phone and want me to either not to do that or I or they, will have to change my unlimited plan. What should I do?

(all tab)

-scroll to tethering manager

-clear data and force stop

then you can use it without having to pay!

Im an att employee I rooted my phone, also bought an app called SQLITE to take of the block on 3rd party apps, and jus today follow this video. I can connect my laptop but it wont pull any pages up. Any clues as to what the deal is? Also eployees have unlimited data not the 2g cap im pretty sure non employees will get overages if u use it too much

its free. but you are still accumulating your 2GB limit right? so, if you over 2GB limit they will be charging you for the excess.. which is ridiculous.. I'm hoping that if i do this my 2GB limit will somewhat will not used?

i couldn't find tethering manager. and i am able to connect to mobile ap.

do u think cognition (wen i flashed it) removed it for me? (4.2)

Great video dude. I installed the KB1 on my Captivate and I was stuck on not able to use Mobile AP. Thank you for showing the video. I also have heard another way to bypass AT&T locking stuff. It is only a setting change on the APN for AT&T. However, I have not tried yet. Your method is much cleanner and I can use for other 3G networks.

hmmm got the pro version of titanium but looks like they had major changes to the version you show here. Titanium keeps crashing anytime I run filters. Not sure why? Any suggestions?

@weeble21 I'm not actually sure of the legality of the MOD. I never read into the T&A of the ATT contracts about this. FWIW we do this on our corporate phones and it has never effected us. And that's about 40 Captivates.

MobileTech has some great How-To videos, thanks! Video Production hint: you might want to adjust the audio gain on your camera's mic input. There is some distortion/clipping that gets a little hard to listen to. Otherwise your videos are well done - no focus or glare problems.
