  • nice one

  • Great little snapshot but I'm afraid that the reason women were granted the vote in 1918 had nothing to do with their efforts during the war. In fact the vast majority of those who worked in the munitions factories were still denied the franchise. The newly enfranchised women were over 30 and in the majority of cases wives and mothers who it was considered would generally vote in the same way as their husbands, essentially it was seen that it could be of no harm so why not.

  • @xanadu1812

The decrease in the male population in the inter-war period also led the British government to re-enforce traditional Edwardian 'separate spheres' ideology, thereby encouraging women to become home makers and raise families to re-populate the depleted workforce.

  • After seeing the majority of comments, now I see why these women fought so hard. No wonder in other parts of the world women struggle. If a feminist means a woman who wants the same equality as men while respecting that same for men, homosexuals, blacks, immigrants, worker unions and any other groups, then I'm one of those awful no good feminazis. I suppose I'll get a lot of hate responses after posting this.

  • It is forgotten that many men did not have the vote in the UK either. Some facts:-

Reform Act 1832:- Resulted in 15% males having the vote.

Representation of the People Act 1884:- Increased suffrage but still 40% of males did not have the vote.

Representation of the People Act 1918:- Universal suffrage for males over 21, females over 30.

Representation of the People Act 1928 - Votes for all over 21.

In photos the policemen arresting the suffragettes did not have the vote either.

  • To be overly opinionated without physical brute force to back it up means war? Really? Overly opinionated by whose standards? I'm afraid men have used that kind of irrational hysteria in place of logical reasoning, in order to maintain a patriarchal privilege that determines how women's opinions are perceived and reacted to. Basically, positing that men's perceptions are the 'normal' ones and women's reactions to their second class position as 'abnormal'.

  • Women should not have the same rights as men until the day comes when its ok to punch a woman in the face, thats equal rights if you want them. Until then stfu and make me a sandwich.

  • @ChubbzyMcgee your wrong because punching someone regardless of their sex or for that matter harming them in any way is an act of degradation and not equality. Men hurting men and men hurting women is never ok. I hate when men use that type of logic when arguing that women shouldnt have rights because its not ok to hurt them.

PS: sandwhich joke really? how original...sorry that you have a tiny dick but im just saying that you need to grow some balls

  • Sandwhichs have never been the same

  • Our heroic sisters fought for our rights. We will never forget them women from all over the world followed their example

  • @evoulasexy--Of course a woman should not be mistreated and should be given the same respect as anyone else. But to be overly opinionated without the physical, brute force to back it up is like starting a war without guns and ammo. It's not very bright.

  • @tardwhisperer I am a feminist and I don't want war.I respect men and I consider them equal.I don't think that we will need brute force to change things.Just mutual respect.

  • @evoulasexy--I can dig that. Mutual respect. How refreshing.
