Holy S**t it worked for me, I get 23 HD channels in Toronto, I have the connected co-ax cable going into my surge protector power bar CO-AX IN, then CO-AX OUT to my TV, just in case of a power surge, all I can say is WOW!!! LOL!!
@hailherrosner I know - this still amazes me how well it works... I actually ended up stripping the end off the coax cable and just winding the copper wire around the screw on the wall plug. So it's permanently fixed and can't pull out. Crystal clear stations...
@ben8jam Thanks for the INFO man, I really appreciate it, over here in T.O. Rogers cable gouges people for $80-90 a month, I'm gonna be giving my cable company the old Heave-Hoe out the door, LOL!!
If this works then it has to be the ground wire in the electrical system that is providing the signal. If no signal is picked up then that house must not have ground and that is dangerous.
Wow! I've been watching diy hd antenna vids for an hour and the is ... like @BENT10 said works retardedly awesome. I just got myself my first HDTV for myself during black friday and my brother told me that a standard coaxial cable should pick up channels...well it didn't, UNTIL I saw this vid and stuck the others end of the cable into light switch screw! I get 4 channels with setup
I use the same technique except I cut the end tip to strip it ti bare metal of the brown metal thing in the coaxle , and then place it in the metal bar that holds my curtains up . I get 45 channels for free in hd
Is there a danger to this? The guy said using all your grounds to be the antenna - blow your tv with a free floater or a surge. ??? Other question, HOW does this work? I thought the signal was transferred through wires that would be off unless you paid for them? Can anyone explain the basics of TV signal/reception that allows this to work?
@LegoAnimationGuy1 YES of course theres a danger you are linking your tv to the houses electric excape point (the earth cable) like you stated a surge or something silly like water going in a plug the electric travels through the object untill tripped buy your board this happens in milliseconds but if you have a old house more than likely the trip wont cut out 4 a while this would make your tv live DONT TAKE THE RISK its not worth it one day ur tv could be live without you even knowing and BAM
@DUBWAYstation Hey DUBWAYstation this doesn't have anything to do with electrical! It is just connecting the coaxel cable to a metal object. There is NO WAY that an electrical current that could fry your TV's board could possibly run through a screw that has NO current running through it! This is 100% safe and legal!
@gamikavi Hey Im from Edmonton too but couldnt get my DIY HD antenna to pick up a single station.. but youre getting 6 channels with just the coaxial ?
Thanks this method works a lot better then my antenna that I was having to move around all the time to get different channels.. now I don't have to do that at all
I was dumbfounded that this works so well. Took off my ugly near useless antenna from the entertainment center. Do you suppose I'd get even better reception from also using an indoor antenna? I'd have to get a splitter so I could use both. Would it be worth it? Thanks SO much for this video :)
@myishac glad to see it worked. doesn't always work i've discovered. depends on the wiring in the house/apt I think.. enjoy learning a new language ;)
@VitaVeritasVictoria I get all the local channels - about 20? actually surprised how many there are actually.. and all the major network stations in perfect HD.. i've used this method in lots of different places... doesn't always work though, depends on wiring i think..

@TheUltimatePirate ok clearly you diddnt understand a word i wrote the SKREW is touching the SOCKET back plate which is touching the EARTH
oh btw you think magicly by touching the cable to a tiny skrew will act as a antenna why do you think it works for some and not others?
have a look at this forum they explain what the earth does and what happens when things are i contact with it

@LegoAnimationGuy1 Anything metallic can be used as an antenna, something that infected301 does not understand.
