I have a sincere question: what exactly is the practical purpose for a kit like this? Pistols exist as they do for a reason -- to be relatively compact sidearms. Trying to force them into the niche of a carbine/rifle mystifies me. Would it really cost so much more to purchase a purpose-built platform, such as a submachine gun or rifle-caliber carbine?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious.
@JasonRedfield this kit is essentially so all you have to carry if say youa re going to be away from home for a while is this weapon, only one type of ammo, and only one set of mags, along witht he fact that concealed carrying your glock, sig, spring, whatever, and then hauling the carbine kit sperately makes it easier to draw less attention rather than one large gun bag being toted about
@JasonRedfield yeah i was looking to invest in one rather than an ar-15 off the bat, make target shooting easier and more efficient too, but anything past maybe 80-120 meters(if not closer) and i'd need something with more velocity, a 10 mm carbine would be a very fun and useful tool :)
I'd love to see a carbine in 10mm Auto as well. Does this kit happen to work on a Glock 20? If so, you could always go that route. Maybe slap a 6" extended barrel on the Glock.
The closest thing I know of to a 10mm carbine is the MP5/10.
@JasonRedfield nah, it seems only 17s and 19s will work with this kit, there's got to be on out there and the 6" barrel would not only look kick ass but would add some well needed velocity and accuracy, then maybe you can reach out further past 120 meters
@JasonRedfield i googled for the effective range of the 10mm round, and found a forum where they were talking about hunting with a glock carbine conversion, one who hunted deer said "broadside shots" were his favorite, if the versatility of a platform like this could get me hunting deer for about $600 glock 20 + $600 carbine conversion kit + cost of ammo and other gear, that aint a bad price
@JasonRedfield glad i could provide some insight :) ive always thought them interesting and feel everyone should know the applications of different platforms rather than have a specification loaded video with no explanation as to how its useful :P
Be nice if all these companies would consider making one of these kits, for GEN1 Glock17!Without the picitinny rail??Some of us cant get different handguns that easily in some parts of the world.
That's awesome! Turns a pistol into a sort of single-fire SMG!
However, and I know I'm only nit-picking... doesn't that defeat the object of carrying a pistol though? Surely there's nothing wrong with fielding a compact SMG, like an MP7 or something, and keeping the pistol as the back-up side arm.
@hefalumpkin Well yeah, I know that. ;) U're pretty much helping me prove my point... not all SMG's are fully auto, so using a standard single-shot pistol with the PTP makes it the same as these SMG's, and using a fully automatic pistol then makes it the same as a standard fully-auto SMG. So, as I said in my initial post, I don't see the reason to turn a pistol into an SMG (fully-suto or not) instead of just fielding an SMG?
@Wimpoman well most glocks are around or under $400 and one of these I believe is probably around $200-500. Most SMG's at a gun store would be around $800-2000 depending. So maybe its a profit margin?
@hefalumpkin Yeah, could be. ;) Well, for private organisations etc maybe, but I reckon that would be a null point for military forces. Gotta admit tho, it is pretty cool!
@Wimpoman well not every one lives in the US where any one get get a 50 cal rifle after a background check and a cool down period of 2 weeks... in most countries even for "security" companies its pretty much impossible to get a license for automatic weapons, so this product can help bridge the gap in terms of increased accuracy and ergonomics between pistols and SMG/APDW's, tho in most countries conversions kits are pretty much banned across the board so bleh...
@DOGMA1138 "well not every one lives in the US..." Really? lol :p U say that like you think I do. o.O
I did say this in another reply to hefalumpkin - "Well, for private organisations etc maybe." - so I have already recognised the potential need for this in security companies.
I'm sorry if it offends you, but I still don't see the point.
@DOGMA1138 well not sure if this one was the one, but another multiple Israeli companies have "Tactical conversion kits", one of them was the best selling accessory int 2010 las vegas gun show, so if nothing else they buy it for the cool factor. BTW in israel most security guards carry a glock with a butt-stock, in the UK i've seen many of those at the airport too(besides the MP5 with optics and enough mag's to clear a small football field), so there is a market for such items.
Would be tight with the full auto Glock 18 and a suppressor!!!!!
I have Fab-Defense's GL-Shock AR-15 stock and i love it :-)

Interesting. So it's a pretty narrow/specialized niche. Not that that's a bad thing. Pretty intriguing nonetheless.

Yeah, I think it would certainly be possible to make shots at that distance with the right barrel, optics, and ammo.

@darkchild256
Yeah, turns out there are indeed 10mm carbines, some used for hunting. Feather Arms makes one apparently.
I agree with you on the price; I'm not a hunter so a 10mm carbine wouldn't really appeal to me personally, but I can see its utility for sure.

@Wimpoman not all SMG's are auto, and if they are the are available in single or 3 rnd. burst. and some pistols are full-auto.
