He also talked to them in a calm, quiet voice while getting them under control. Notice how quietly they stood there after? All because he was talking to them and reassuring them that they were ok. They were trusting him. I've been on the back of a bolter before and NEVER once did I yell at him. Yelling and freaking out gets you nowhere, especially with a 1,000lb animal that could run you over in a heartbeat. So congrats to that guy and I'm glad no one, human or equine, got hurt.

Ok, the ONLY person here who did anything right is the guy who grabbed the reins of the two lead fresians and got them under control. If horses are running scared like that the LAST thing you want to do is stand infront of them, wave your hands in their face and yell. Doing that just scares them even more. The guyy who caught them did the right thing. He grabbed the reins and directed them towards the garage. If you cant stop them turn them into a wall and take away their hind end.

This is the hazard of the group all trying to help when a horse is loose. Horses find nothing calming about being chased after/surrounded by a mob of 20 or so obviously anxious creatures intent on getting after them especially when they are already spooked. Being calm and placing yourself in the right location to grab the reins was the right way to get this under control...the guy in the suit did a fantastic job with those two black horses.

Those are some good looking POWERFUL BUILT HORSES who looked like they were over 16 hands and at least 1100 lbs each. That was over 2 tons of horse power pulling that carriage..

I actually agree with the other person. Humans can be stupid, but I have met plenty of stupid show horses. Beautiful, dripping with talent, but lacking some common sense. I wouldn't say the are very stupid but it's nature, flight happens but I don't think this was human caused unless some other people did something on accident (doubt it) to spook the horse into running into the 4 hitch. Most shows I've been to are inhabited by horse people, they try not to spook em, so who knows.

These people DID know what they were doing... What happend was the single horse (Hooked to the Road Cart) got spooked somehow and ran into the four in hand of Friesians... This caused the Friesians to Run off... If you look closer, the Equip. was fitted correctly, There were no wrong bits, and these horses are not abused. It is simply an accident that happend. This sport can be dangerous, and if you do not like it, DON"T WATCH IT.

So many people who ride think driving is for wimps.With driving you only have two cues - hands and voice. A horse is a prey animal and anything can turn into a monster at anytime. Because driving is so relaxing, people tend to relax too much and not pay attention at all times -just like driving a car. Train/de-sensitize,train/de-se­nsitize.Also, while any driving horse can be ridden, not all riding horses are appropriate for driving.
