  • I luv New Zealand

  • The mountain and lake at 0:13-0:19 is not in New Zealand. It`s actually Mt. Chephren and Lower Waterfowl Lake in Banff National Park, Canada!

  • As an Irishman who grew up in Australia, educated in Canada, married a pom and now lives in USA,this is the best national anthem I have heard.Congrats to the All Blacks.

  • thumbs up if you came here bcos of the world cup

  • i love nz i was born there but i love it more then au :P

  • Should be National Choir singing our National Anthem. Stand alone singers sing for themselves (hence the real high note at the end of the anthem). National Choir sing with the people, stand alone singers of our National Athem sing for themselves. Leave the National Anthem for our National Choirs to sing. Best ever singers of our National Athem...Cheers

  • They forgot the haka in the middle: e tiranga tahi ebgulie, i oh oh oe ha, nga tamarikihi nga tamarikihi aki a kena hi, eko ti a hi, i oh oh he ha..God of nations....

  • For the love of God!!!! some of me besties r Maori!!!! Is that a crime....our anthem is amazing and i only wish that i was able to speak the language fluently.....Those comments just show how shallow minded you guys are.....When the pakeha came we didnt give them everything!!! we took everything...i am a proud Kiwi and love the culture...bet u guys luv the rugby tho hey!!! hipocracy at its best!!! Great Anthem!!!

  • I find it funny how the maori think we came her and raped there land when we gave them eveything they own. Like electronics and modern building techniques. You were all stupid enough to sign the treaty of waitangi in the first place. Besides the maori have ruined NZ in the last decade. The population of Maoris in prisons is very high. They don't get a proper education at school and end up going on the DPB living in there white mans house and using white mans electronics

  • @aa2ashiznit it's a similar thing here in australia with the aboriginals, but it's arguable that we forced a modern lifestyle way too quickly on these people and they simply didn't adapt to the modern changes we forced upon them.. They were fighting our guns and cannons with sticks and stones.. It was pretty clear who was going to win.. We did come here and rape their land, we took their traditional way of life that had worked for them for centuries and forced a western culture on them.

  • @aa2ashiznit What a real dumb nut Im guessing its ok for you to be living off the goverment but no one else Yep I checked your profile, racism is another word for IDIOT ,

  • I find it funny how the maori think we came her and raped there land when we gave them eveything they own. Like electronics and modern building techniques. • is this ainslie allen singing this? sounds like it. i can do better!

  • georgemary????our culture is alive n pumpn, evrywea u go te reo maori is spoken, wat part of nz do u liv in??the bush???u dnt no wat yor talkin about, shutup!!!dead language, like bloody hell it is,thea will b a time wea u lot will hav 2 lern our language 2 kp up,but then u can lern chinese eh pokokohua

  • u r so rite thea yellowcookie,my mum n dad sed they wer not allowed 2 speak the maori language at skool, they wer strappd by the teachas if they did,so in fear of that they wer forced 2 speak only english at skool, hence our language slowly startd 2 disappear, thank god 4 the kohanga reo movement our language is flourishn and our tamariki(children)r now reapn the benefits,my generation has 2 learn it now..wat a real fuk up if u ask me!!

  • Great Anthem.With Regards,

    From India! :D

  • This is the old one we have new one the real one is much longer and the english in it is just the translation ive live nz and the real national anthem is about 10 to 15 minutes long

  • @TheMnbvcxz0987654321 Yeah but how many rugby games has that been sung at

  • This isnt the real nz national anthem

  • who is this singing?

  • IS N.Z. REALLLY A NATION? IF SO, WHY IS THE ENGLISH (REPEAT: ENGLISH) FLAG ON THE N.Z. FLAG? ARE THEY BACKWARD IN N.Z. OR WHAT? DO THEY STILLHAVE A COLONIAL SUBJECT MENTALITY? AS FOR AUSTRALIA ... !!

  • @squirell1952

Firstly, I am sorry but it isnt the English (Repeat: English) flag on the NZ flag, it is the flag of the United Kingdom (Repeat: United Kingdom), theres quite a big difference. Secondly, I am not a NZer nor a citizen of any other Commonwealth Realm so I cannot know how the feelings about it are, but the Union Jack in the corner is a remainder from the time as a British (Repeat: British) colony, and they remain parts of the Commonwealth of Nations (Repeat: Nations, i.e. independent)

  • sum of da coments on here are making me SICK, just so most of yuee know, da Maori were tha first ppl in New Zealand we LET the pakeha kum into our country ! in return, dey steal all our land and bak in tha days, they wuld force maori not 2 speak their own language ! otherwise they wuld get a hiding. da same thing happened to most countries, including Australia nd Hawaii ! but We (Maori) are still holding on to our language no matter wat ! I wuld die rather da be forced 2 let go of my language !!

  • @huiakj6 Please, learn your history & get basic knowledge.

  • @yellowCOOKiiE I lived my history, I went to a FULL Maori school ! we learnt all about our history and what had happened when the pakeha came to NZ. Its because of your ancestors that most Maori cant speak their language !! So PLEASE learn MY history before you go commenting about shit you dont even know !!!

  • i uost to live in ch ch

  • :)) I like that the lyrics are in Maori-language and also in english, so that everyone can understand and identify with it. New Zealand♥

  • ive lived in new zeland for 8 years!! what a beautifull placeeee! :) lovee it there <33

  • I'm going to New Zealand this winter (summer in the southern hemisphere), can't wait. Not too fond of the anthem though. That's just my opinion.

  • I'm Australian but this anthem has been playing for the last ten minutes in my household ... great song.

  • Vive le Nouvelle Zelande, Commonwealth du Grand

  • see you in one month nz:)

  • I had the privilege of spending a long holiday in NZ. Even if I was a whingeing pom, I would still say it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. BTW its not a feather it is a frond of silver fern "Cyathea dealbata (Ponga is the Maori name)".

  • GO NZ! THIS IS WHAT WE SING AT SCHOOL ASSEMBLY!

  • it sounds aboriginal LOL

  • Surely the Maoris should speak English, the worlds greatest language, rather than a dead one?. You have been slipping allowing this.

  • @georgeamery You wanker.

  • I am having problems finding a new zealand national anthem thats not been sung in a foreign language! what is the matter.?

  • Some misinformation in these comments. 1. NZ is independent, but we remain under the umbrella of the monarchy (benefits include easy visa's to UK, commonwealth games, scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge). 2. NZ has 3 official languages: Maori, English and NZ Sign language; the most commonly spoken language is English but all official documents are available in at least English and Maori. 3. The flag has the union jack and the Sthn Cross (stars) because of our history and physical location.

  • @sjen033 The Governor-General is appointed on the recommendation of the Prime Minister of New Zealand to serve as the personal representative of the Head of State, Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand.

New Zealand's Head of State is non-partisan and is not involved in the "business" of government, which is the responsibility of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet. This arrangement is best described by the saying that "while the Sovereign reigns, the Government rules."

  • what language is this ?

  • @boulmaouahibe the first part is Maori. then the second part is english.

  • New Zealand is not just one of the best , it is the best and most beautiful place on earth . I am Pole but I live in NZ and I just love it !!!!!!!!! In particular marlborough sounds The magic place !!!!

  • FermanNZ Please remember the honoured union flag is on your own great flag simply because your people wanted it to be there and were proud many of them desended from it.

Of course over the years, especially since the UK went in the EU many non white people with no British background has taken citizenship. The native Maori seem to be hostile to us and our Queen. There seems no way round it so I suggest you remove our flag from yours and declare a republic

  • janeynzed. Sir,what you say is true of course. But I would like you to consider two what I think is pertinent points 1/ Although the Maori is more advanced than the Aussie.Abbo. I feel that had British explorers not founded the now great nation of New Zealand, that land would now be living in the stone age, instead of its present status of a important and valued friend and ally of Great Britain and member of the commonwealth. 2/ The native Britons here in the UK see other races robbing us.

  • @georgeamery Sorry, I only just saw this post. I think that you should know Maori began trading on their own esteem after early European contact as far afield as Australia and California, it is a colonial (and quite frankly racist and ethnocentric) view to assume they would be stuck in the stone age. They would have traded and modernised according to their culture - which was technologically innovative - without being colonised.

  • The New Zealand flag looks like the Australian flag,I mean why don't you use the black flag with a feather?

  • @Incawarlord I think that would be great. A petition was started but it didn't get enough traction to cause change.

  • @fermanNZ What a shame! What were the results?I imagine a poll was made or referendum.

  • @Incawarlord In our system we need 300,000 signatures, in a certain time, to force a nation wide referendum. Apathy or lack of discontentment ruled in the end I guess.

  • Great anthem! What the hell is doing the british flag on the New Zealand flag?Is New Zealand independent or what?I have to say this anthem surpassed by far the american.

  • @Incawarlord No. We are subjects of HRH Queen Liz.

  • @fermanNZ What?New Zealand is still a colony?Why?USA was also a colony,but now they are independent,

    the same goes for Brazil.

  • @Incawarlord Her rule over us in general has been more beneficial than not. There are benefits to being part of the Commonwealth. USA is not allowed to compete in the Commonwealth games. ;)

  • @Incawarlord No its good that aussies and NZ have the union jack with their flag it shows unity,it tells the enemies of NZ that an attack on them is an attack on two other powerful nations

  • True I have never been to New Zealand, but the man next door has a Brother there. It seems then the Maori have taken over the country more than the Abbos.have in Australia? I take it you are of Maori connection? I do understand the UK going in the European Union in the 70s harmed New Zealand a lot.I was against it at the time. The British influence was harmed and people from other countries started coming.I think English is still the official language?

  • @georgeamery the Maori have taken over the country? Wtf, it's their country - just like Australia belongs to Aboringals. Colonial theft is theft no matter how you spin it. Tiocfaidh ar la!

  • @jaineynzed The Maori are originally from Asia. They jumped in their canoes and paddled out here. The TRUE natives, like The Aborigini Australians were actually a pygmy people called Mori Ori....consequently the MAORI decided to exterminate the natives and claim the land as their own :)

  • @LosSenoraDiablo Sorry you are incorrect, that theory was debased as early as the 1920s by historians and anthropologists yet survived in school text books until the 1970s, probably because it assuages white guilt about colonisation. The Moriori were a Maori tribe that immigrated to the Chathom Islands early during the Maori settlement of New Zealand. Ngati Maru did attack them in the early 1800s but didn't stay or kill them all. Moriori descents still live on the Chathoms and throughout NZ.

  • @georgeamery

no one speaks maori in new zealand more people speak chinese less than 1% of the population can speak it fluently. it is a dead language and is only included in the anthem because the maoris complain about how their culture no longer exists

  • @harropizza ABOUT 35% CAN SPEAK MAORI FLUENTLY I GREW UP IN THAT CATEGORY, WHERE I WAS BROUGHT UP ON THE EASTCOAST EVERYONE SPOKE MAORI AND ENGLISH WAS A SECOND LANGUAGE. I WENT INTO MAINSTREAM WHEN I WAS 13. MY WHOLE FAMILY ARE FLUENT AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE I GREW UP WITH AND I FEEL SORRY FOR THOUHGS WHO WERE BROUGHT UP IN THE CITIES WHO CANT SPEAK THE LINGO AND ARE OUT THERE COMMITING CRIMES. I AM 19 NOW BUT WHEN I HAVE CHILDREN THEY WILL BE RAISED THE SAME WAY I WAS RAISED

  • @harropizza who do yuee think you are to say "Nobody speaks Maori in New Zealand" nnd that "Maori complained about not having our language in tha anthem" !!! We were here before tha English nnd we will definetly be here last !!! My hole family speaks Maori, I went to Maori school with ppl that spoke Maori(obviously) at my current school the pakeha (english) people are outnumbered ! at my cousins school tha pakeha are outnumbered !!! So think about wat yuer gona say, b4 yuee say IT !

  • English is the language of new zealand, and long may it stay. Only dumb fuckers think otherwise.

  • @georgeamery WHAT THE HELL obviously 1.your a dumb ass 2. you have NEVER been to New Zealand and 3.you dont know a thing about New Zealand

  • i wanna marry n kiwi girl, and sing this anthem proudly. i get goosebumps from this song!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @johanluwes There are plenty of single girls around but being fine Kiwi girls I'm guessing they won't marry just anyone. Start by singing our Anthem - singers seem to attact some girl's attention. ;)

  • proud to be a kiwi :)

  • What a great pity the Queens most loyal subjects reduced to singing in a foreign language.I dont like it!

  • im am an Afghan ... i lived in New Zealand when my country was being bombed by Yanks ... New Zealand gave me shelter .... God Bless you New Zealand ... i love you !

  • @TheSuavaiolealofa LOL you are sooo funny India "world champs" lol they couldnt tell a cricket ball from food hell they think it is food they even bit the ball once to taste it and yeah your the world champs in League and for that I am sorry and why do I care who plays Union or League the only reason I made the mistack is because your uniforms are almost the same for everything weather it be Cricket, Rugby League or Rugby Union there all black with white sides. • LOVE YOU NZ FOREVER!!!!!

I've been there for a year and i fell in <3

    MISS YOU HEAPS

    from Paraguay (South America)

  • This beautiful anthem fits its country very well - a highly peaceful, relaxing but inspiring place to live (I had first-hand experience).

  • Great. One of my favorite anthems, but I think there is a typo (click here 0:32 ), It's "Me aroha noa", not "Me aroha roa". Maori speakers please confirm. I love the NZ anthem. One of the world's best anthems!

  • been to New Zealand, and i come from Wales, I've never seen so many similarities, 1. adore rugby, 2.more sheep than humans, 3.mountainous country, god bless Nz and Wales :)

  • love it!

  • NEW ZEALAND is one of the best and most beautiful place on earth.Unfortunately I've never been there :(

  • @ARAMBAaustria I agree. I was in Austria in 2000 and thought that you had a pretty cool country there too.

  • @fermanNZ I have been to Austria several times, too. In Vienna, Salzburg and in the Alps. It`s a very beautiful piece of earth, almost dreamlike (together with Bavarian Alps and Neuschwanstein castle). I adore it there. But you probably meant Australia :D. I`d love to visit it (and New Zealand, of course) some day, too. Hope I`ll make it in this century...

  • @TaToHaluz Nope. Austria. Was in Australia is 2000 as well. One is a lot more expensive to get to for us.

  • @ARAMBAaustria Lol i live in New Zealand And indeed it is beautiful

  • @ARAMBAaustria if you go there youll be really glad you came. ive grown up in New Zealand, and im pakeha (nz european, no maori blood). our family over the years have hosted homestays, all of them asian. Most (if not all) of the ones were still in contact with want to come back someday. one girl from russia who i befriended wants to coime back. she looked at the sheep and said nz looked kusty like her own country, the lighting and everything, i think. i think it was autumn then

  • @ARAMBAaustria relly try to take to croatia that a beautiful place but new zealand is too beautiful place

  • @ARAMBAaustria why dont you visit us then???

  • @ARAMBAaustria you would love it its the most beautiful place ever that i know of i lived there ^^

  • @ARAMBAaustria poor u i lived there and its fab

  • Good anthem. Much better than Australia's in my opinion, but it's just an opinion.

  • @9Rayvik9 An opinion shared by at least 4.5m people i'm sure. :)

  • i am so privelidged to be moving to NZ after 14 years in the grey old UK.it truly is the most beautiful country i have ever seen.

  • how i miss new zealand xxxxx

  • We left South Africa 2 1/2 years ago for New Zealand and hasn't looked back ONE day!!! NZ is the best place in the world - safe, clean and man can they play rugby!!!

  • I would to live in New Zealand. The UK is shit now.

  • @tkaedingfan Obviously you've never been to NZ before. ;)

  • @tkaedingfan both are beautiful.

  • i love that i live here :-)

  • Greetings from England to New Zealand a lovely country and lovely people.Very nice anthem

  • love to stay in New Zealand....

  • Ok this is the second vid I have seen of this. On the fourth line it should be Me aroha NOA not "Me aroha ROA" and has anyone else picked it up she sings Manaakitia RA instead of Manaakitia MAI. Thumbs up though I love my anthem :)

  • @taumarunui05

true bro...picked those up straight away - pretty saaaad seeing as she is basically representing our whenua for the world to see.

Ra means Sun and Mai means come hither =O

    and Ma-a-nakitia...WT????

    Should have been Ma-na-a-ki-tia.

Elongating in the wrong place completely changes the meaning.

...but on a lighter note, she did a pretty awesome job aye bro.

    Sweet As =D

  • I saw the movie The Whale Rider and then got a wild hair to look up the national anthem of NZ. The I saw the movie Once Were Warriors and decided maybe later. Then, a year later finally got around to it...coolness. The heard Will Martin (who really should comb his hair) sing in on another posting and thought WOW God does Defend New Zealand. What ever happened to those actors from Once were Warriors. I know The Whale Rider girl was nominated for and Academy Award and then POOF disappeared.

  • Hope one day I will get chane to visit NZ. Nice Anthem, greeting from Canada.

  • @SuperJuli101

the language of new Zealand is Samoan.

    I'm Samoan my self (:

anyhoo , cheers mate on the lovely national anthem

    alofa --N.Z-- ♥

  • New Zealand looks like a beautiful place. I have never been there. Mainly because it is about half a world away from me,but I would love to go there some day. What system of government is used there I am thinking about leaving America before a Socialist takeover because with my outspoken views against the government I would likely be executed.

  • @deciusvarus It is a beautiful place. Probably the best in the world I think. But I am biased. We have a democratically elected government but as everywhere we got problems that seem big to some people. If you're really outspoken the government probably wouldn't execute you but I'm sure someone would eventually.Either that or you could start your own political party. We got plenty of them.

  • Greetings from ITALIA!........ i love new zealand hope to go there some day

    Viva la Nuova Zelanda!

  • Kiwi born Sa.... I'm honoured to be a Kiwi New Zealander. Respects!!!

  • thanks

  • good

  • i'm not sure if ur maori but if u r from a part maori to a maori thank u for posting

  • @chalmacu If I'm not Maori do you not thank me? ;) I would like to treasure the culture of Maori and Non-Maori alike while at the same time celebrate the fact we are one nation of New Zealanders. It concerns me we have different rules for different races when we were all born here free to enjoy our beautiful country.

  • I´m living in germany....but i can this Anthem better as my home Anthem.

I`m a kiwi in my Heart and soul...

    Thx for posting.

  • Maori is spoken by Maori and pakeha alike. there are full immersion schools where the student only speaks Maori, there are also bilingual schools, and there are also mainstream schools that teach maori as a second language. i have European cousins who dont have a drop of maori blood running through their veins and they can speak fluent Maori. the language is for all cultures who wish to learn it. not just us.

  • Thank you for posting this. I am an American, but I am studying as much as I can about New Zealand because in a year, I hope to be there. Is the Anthem sung usually in Maori or in English?

  • @Proud2playitloud Come on over. It's the best country in the world. We sing the anthem just like the video, Maori first, then English.

  • @Proud2playitloud both. the begining is Maori then english. Come to NZ its awesome.

  • Do u have to speak Maori to life in NZ?

  • @RubicsCubeProduction Most of us speak English. A small % speak both and very few speak only Maori.

  • @RubicsCubeProduction No. Maori is spoken by Maori's but their are quiet a lot of people now learning the language. Main language is English. Also Maori is taught at schools as 2nd language.

  • i love new zealand i lived there for 3 years now i am back in austria but i wanna go back to NZ

  • NZ is great and i love this country!

    But what language is it??

Most people in NZ speak english! But this lanuage sounds a bit weird! But it's a great one!

  • @SuperJuli101 It starts off in Maori (1 of our official languages) then again in English.

  • Greetings from REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO / REPUBLIKA SE KOSOVES/ REPUBLIKA KOSOVA
