  • Nice lesson, man!I always wondered about that michael lee firkins sweep-tapping thing. Finally the mystery has been revealed, haha.I've checked out some of your other lessons too. You've got some great ideas, but I think it would be better if you could sum up the information and add an example in a musical context.Keep up the good work ;)

  • PM'd!

  • very nice lesson man... but i cudnt get the site u mentioned in the video..its not displayed.. cud u please forward me the name of the site...it wud be very helpful..thnx

  • nice explanation

  • very nice!

  • Nice video, really easy to follow. Basically for like 4 hours or something last night I was playing this. Thanks for the lessons last year at IGF!

  • Variation in the rhythm for dynamic contour? Don't be ridiculous JG. That interferes with the guitarist's primary goal of playing as fast as possible, regardless of underlying pulse.

Also you should use more gain. And less mid. And turn off the click; it implies that there should be a musical context for sweeping.

  • I know, it's remiss of me - I should have mentioned that if this lick is ever played in public, you'll never get a paid gig again!

  • excuse me, but as a metal guitarist i am quite insulted. I'll have you know that my mids are used quite tastefully and never anything but boosted, the provide a fullness to the gain and allow chords to sound "heavier" while allowing a throaty feel when using the bridge pickup for shred, sweeping, or a heartfelt blues solo. Sweeping can be used with musical context. you obviously haven't heard much metal aside from what's in the "mainstream" of the genre.

good lesson, i value your use of theory

  • (post count)

... to explain what you are doing and found it most helpful with my notes, this "pattern" as its called is new to me and i am excited to begin using it. Thank you.

(first half was directed at JonnyScaramanga)

  • Mmmmm, JP6.......... Awesome video, as soon as I get some spare time I'm going to have to try and learn this!
