at the beginning he says toyota has a box frame with welds on top and bottom, then at 4:18 he says that they use an open c-channel frame..... uhhhh????
Ford sucks thy guy lowered the Dodge weight way faster than on the ford witch means the weights were going faster due to gravity and inturn the scale would read higher. This guy is DECEIVING YOU DONT BELEIVE HIM!!!!!!
ya for being the top seller in trucks always you have to build a tough truck thats strongest, I wonder what nissan titan would be like, I love my ford 2008 XLT towed a 7500 trailer and 1000lbs in my bed and it worked fine, i was a bit dumb for not having a trailer brake controller but it stopped fine which surprised the crap out of me!
Don't you like how for years the F150 had one of the weakest frames in the market, and now that they've gotten smart and built a strong frame, they're really using it to sell the product and calling the competition out on there strong proven frames. I would like to see this guy compare the previous F150 frame to the same competition.
keep in mind they do not include nissan. keep in mind rivits are stronger than welds. keep in mind that if ford had used rivits. their frame would be better. the most ideal frame comes from the one AND ONLY Land Rover. with the Nissan style cross members rivited and welded threw the frame.
Ford copied Nissan in their frame build which is why u dont see the titan frame here
Toyota has made some of the strongest frames in a pick-up ever, (i.e. the Hilux). As to why they don't use design cues from their other vehicles on the Tundra is a mystery.
@taitai907 The Hi-Lux is a real work truck, and is sold in countries where people still buy small trucks to DO WORK. The Tundra, however, was never intended to be used as a work vehicle. It's a toy for soccer moms and urban cowboys, only sold in the US and Canada, where people buy full-size trucks as commuter vehicles. The Tundra is a CAR, nothing more. The El Camino was more of an actual truck.
Ford and Chevy diesels, up Eisenhower pass with 11,000 pounds: Chevy leads by EIGHT MINUTES. DOWN Eisenhower pass with the same weight: Ford brakes are smoking and fading by the bottom. Chevy brakes, barely warm, because Chevy uses a real engine break. When it comes to BEING A TRUCK, Chevy tops Ford, PERIOD.
Oh, and Dodge wasn't included because their towing payload was a full ton lower than Ford or Chevy. Toyota wasn't included because they ONLY make half-tons.
@FluxAscender OK, so why have F-Series always outsold Silverado? I am Ford truck man but will be the first to admit the latest HD offering from GM are great but it has to be said Ford F-Series have been the best-sellers for quite a longtime, if not always.
@lariatfx Because Ford sells cheap, stripped-out fleet models by the tens of thousands, and Chevy's fleet models are more expensive. Ford designs for fleet buyers, then slaps a bunch of stuff into a cheap truck in order to sell them to the general public. Chevy, OTOH, designs a good truck first, then removes luxury features for their fleet models. So Ford base models are cheaper. But to get a well-optioned truck, you'll end up paying more for a Ford, just to match Chevy standard equipment.
@FluxAscender I am not knocking GM HD trucks. But my friend, it doesn't get anymore fleet quality than the Chevy half-ton, with it's rear drum brakes, vynil front bumper, completely gutted-out front structure, and 1980s ideas hiding behind that ugly sheetmetal. I disagree with you about pricing. Apples-to-apples, they cost about the same, just that F-150 offers more higher-end models. Your fleet argument has been tossed around too much and does not stand up.
@lariatfx BTW, I speak from direct experience, as well. The company I worked for a few years back had a mix of Fords and Chevys, all 1-tons, with a mix of diesel and gas engines. The Fords didn't handle as well, didn't ride as well, didn't accelerate as well, loaded or unloaded, and the Chevys were considerably more comfortable. And while the older Fords were a constant source of mechanical problems, the older Chevys just kept plugging along.
@FluxAscender I also speak from personal experience. I have a fleet of 36 trucks, of which most are Silverado and Ford half-tons (nothing older than 2007). My guys run them fairly hard, and I have found them to be equally reliable (or unreliable depending how you see it). My Ford's have dropped trannys, but so have my Chevys. I have found the F-150s to have better build quality, though, as they are not prone to squeeks and rattles as are the Silverados are.
@upl8ter: This is not entirely accurate. There have been years where Ford F-Series Trucks have outsold both Silverado and Sierra combined. Don't think for a moment that GM's two distinct truck lines means double the sales over F-Series because nothing can be further from the truth. In short, it takes GM two truck lines to only just outsell F-Series in most years. Don't forget that the Ford F-150 is the single best-selling vehicle in North America if not the world.
I was in a front impact accident last month at 50KM/h. The truck has sustained damage to the frame but it has not bent and it has protected my engine from damage. Ford is exchanging my frame to ensure the new state of my new truck. If it wasn't for this new frame the damage would have been way worse. Thanks Ford!!! Im probably going to keep the same truck cause i believe in its quality.
I was surprised to learn that the main frame section of the latest Dodge half-ton truck is not hydroformed as one would expect it to be but rather two welded c-sections. The best frame here is the F-150's. Silverado's is okay but consider this: it's painted with enamel and protected with bee's wax which wears off fast, while Ford's is e-coated and resists corrosion. Tundra's? A complete and utter embaressment and they should be absolutely ashamed to have attempted a re-fresh of the 1980s.
ford was ask a direct question as to why they didn't box the superduty frame. read this.
"the boxed frame design was intended for ride comfort and the f150 is the truck for that. the superduty is our work truck, a boxed frame, though strong and rigid, has a higher chance to crack around the welds if loaded with too much weight. an open c channel frame is more able to bare the weigh because the less rigidness of a c channel frame can absorb the distortion."

@demon318i light duty and heavy duty trucks don't run some of the bed applications or set ups as a class 8. Application of a light or heavy duty is also another factor.
@demon318i An F-150 has different requirements and handling needs than a tractor trailor. A full box frame fits its needs better than a c-section frame. Does that answer your question?
the only good thing in the toyota is the engine and tranny. every thing else is junk and always will be. ford makes by far the best trucks out there. then comes chevy then dodge. and well toyota, i cant even say they in the truck market. lol/
The flaws in this 'test' are many. Take a look at a long haul truck sometime. They still use C-channel frames for a reason. They WANT flex. From a dead stop, you pull a large amount of weight with no flex and you run the risk of snapping the frame.
Frames not only NEED to flex, but it's important to design them so the flex in appropriate places.
@rcoveyduc I get your point but I don't exactly agree with you. There is a big difference betwee a long haul truck these trucks, and open c-channel is old new and has no place on a modern pick up truck. Toyota just simply got it wrong. I think it's best in this case that you have a frame that resists deflection. You see the results when you don't with Toyota.
@rcoveyduc Bullshit asshole! Your on fucking crack! Look at a long haul trucks frame asshat! 1 ft. c channel is a hugely beefier and flexs very little. C channel gauge in a 1/2 ton truck is inherently very flexy. The gauge and weight of c Channel necessary to make a 1/2 ton truck as stiff as the F150s boxed frame would make the truck no longer a 1/2 ton IDIOT! NOBODY WANTS FLEX TOOL! IN WHAT PLANET WOULD A WEAKER FLEXING FRAME NOT BREAK EASIER THAN A STIFFER, STRONGER ONE MORON!
Before I bought my f150 in 2004 I drove 2 chev trucks from 2 dealerships. I bought the f150 because it was quieter, and smoother, than the chev. The chev sounded and drove like a 15 year old truck. Same gear noise, wind noise and ride as my 80 model gmc truck. I paid 4000 more 18600 compared with about 15000 for the chev. My f150 has 85000 miles and is in excellent shape even has the original tires.
Good job on the strong frame, although some areas overlooked on the F-150 chassis is there are to many open areas for salt to settle to rot out those crossmembers as well as a terrible design for the rear shock brackets as they will rot off in a matter of a couple years. The F-150 rear springs are weak as hell so what good is all that hype and hoopla if your not going all the way to make it bulletproof by cutting corners in those critical areas.....

@adv512 The didn't include the Titan because it's irrelevant.
