Tim Burton's Batman movies in my opinion are a work of art (same with Nolan's batman movies. theyre both very different but oh well.) I also think this and Batman Returns capture the spirit and the atmosphere of Batman.
basta de comparaaaar a nolan con burtonnnnnnnnnnnn disfruten y vean y no comparen a burton a maradona con garrincha a messi con ronaldo a dios con el diablo es asi miren y disfruten cada cosa
As much as I love "The Dark Knight" and ultimately it is def a better movie, i still have such a fondness for this flick, I remember when i was kid and this came out, you couldnt walk anywhere in New York without seeing that Bat logo. It was an awesome time. It was funny to hear kevin smith say the same exact thing in his "evening with kevin smith" video
Batmobile should be a tank...with style. Nolan's has no style to it. It is actually a lot like the "Dark Knight Returns" graphic novel version, but they didn't make that story.
Michael Keaton was so badass as batman. Christian bale is overrated, he's not the Dark knight! When you look at keaton, you're like that's batman right there!
Bob Kane, Batman, Joker, Nicholson, Keaton, Basinger, Burton, Prince, Elfman Batmobile, Batwing, Batman Logo et al all ground breakers! the complete entertainment package.
Tim Burton was under a lot of pressure from the business men so Batman Returns was not as pure as Batman. Tim Burton's artistic freedom was compromised. The later sequels & series were all dissections of this original.
Like how the Batman movie revolutionized the superhero movie genre since Christopher Reeves' Superman. the Batman The Animated Series revolutionized the super hero animation genre. Look at its enduring influence to the DC universe American animated series you can very much feel their B:TAS influence resonating. considering its the by product of Tim Burton's Batman.
@survivorproject wrong. It was the reverse. He got to do what he wanted on Batman Returns after the success of this one. His commentary on Batman states he was going through the motions. Sorry for the geeky response.
As far as post Batman comic books and video games and the recent Dark Knight franchise no one can deny the enduring influence of this Batman movie oh and for that matter Jack Nicholson's Joker.
We are doing a stop motion animation film called Tim. The movie is a stop motion animation film that is dedicated to Tim Burton and has Sir Christopher Lee as the narrator. Search the directors name Brian Joseph Ochab to find the video.
Was there anything like this on the blu-ray release. I haven't had a chance to go through all the special features, but they should've included this doco
Imagine if every fan who viewed this video contacted WB and demanded a 3rd Batman from Burton/Keaton. The hype alone would break records! Afterall, they can do like Superman Returns and pretend like the shumacher crap never happened. Plus, Nolan said his next one will be the last for his series. Perfect time for Burton/Keaton to give the fans what they've always wanted and end it with a trilogy.
@AftermathRebel I like the way you think. I'm certainly hoping that Tim and Michael will get together some time in the next ten years to end their series. It's certainly do-able. And I wouldn't say it was impossible. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Batman is one of my all time favorite movies. Michael Keaton was definitely the best Batman ever. Jack Nickolson was perfect Joker. Kim Basinger was stunning and brilliant as always. Fantastic Movie!!!
I remember watching this in 1989, the effects segments were the thing that got me wanting to make movies. Still got it somewhere on betamax. thanks for posting the memories
At 2:55, the soundtrack cue seems different than the album and movie version. Is the trumpet part an octave higher, or is it just the audio on this recording?
thank you for posting these, it is really insightful of the whole process, not sure if i learned too much from what i already know but certainly entertaining nonetheless. i also agree that both jokers fit both movies, one would have not fit the other film, but each were perfect for the films that surrounded them.
George Clooney(who starred in the fourth Batman) jokes about how he killed off the franchise but can we all agree it was because of the director of three and four, Joel Shumacher? This guy is(was? maybe he's dead? fingers crossed) such a hack; when interviewed he said he was going to "lighten up" the batman character and not have him always obsessing about his murdered parents. Which removed any motivation for a guy dressing up in a bat suit and fighting crime. No wonder they sucked so badly.
What i didn`t get in this movie as much as I love it, is that Batman does actually kill a fair few of The Jokers henchmen when the Batman rule is not to kill anyone , just bring them into justice.
I still remember seeing the trailer for this before it came out and it was so exciting and thrilling. You just knew it was going to be awesome and FUN! Then finally the movie came out. and did not disappoint at all! You left the theater feeling highly entertained, pumped up, and thrilled.
this is not a very good documentary, bad editing. Seems like they got a lot of exclusive footage yet just kinda added random scenes from the movie. i dono.
Sad tha the ended his life because of a woman... that chick from the Vacation movies.. Beverly Angelo? The guy's an artistic genius, and some woman has the nerve to hurt him so badly to cause him to commit suicide. It sickens me.
I love what nolan did with his movies but I wish he woulda gone with a Joker that like this one was dropped in chemicals. We may never now that Joker's origins with Heath having passed away. Be great if Burton directed another Batman if Nolan decides not to finish his trilogy.
This movie is the shit. To this day Batman in my opinion remains the most original, dark and daring Batman movie ever made. You can still sit down today and watch it. And it hasn't aged. It's as good today as it ws back in 1989. This is one legendary, timeless piece os movie making.
I was a kid when this movie came out and this will always be the BATMAN movie to mee I love TDK and batman begians but this is the batman of my youth and i will never forget it ....just watched it holds up BIG time 20 years geeeeee
@kiddo215 i disagree, it comes down to personal preference. Christopher Nolan made a movie based on reality which I disliked. Tim Burton made his series based on the comics which I preferred.
@dharvey347 true. i mean i loved this movie growing up. it was the first movie i could remember line for line. so i'm not in anyway saying this is bad but believe it or not it steered away from it's comic book aspects. burton has stated (at the time) that he never read a comic book and never will but hired "comic book consultants". burton's took the basic elements of the mythology and it worked for a movie yet nolan's film took almost every piece from the mythology that makes logical sense.
@dharvey347 i read alot of batman comics as a kid and despite how cool i thought Batman was, TDK is heavily influenced from the very depths of the batman comic book lore. both of nolan's films gave me the batman that i had been wanting for in a film. as where burton's dealt with a character in a mask nolan's bruce wayne operates as more than a simple mask; he's a man faced with the cost of his ambitions, realizing that his war against crime may be producing more harm than good.
@eberini I could´nt agree more !! Batman is no comedy ! He is the big man you would´nt want to meet down a dark alley ! Especially if you were a criminal ! The stuff of nightmares !! The Dark Knight !!
LOL, listen to Jon Peters, talking about "Burton working with a creative producer" Peters, was so annoying on set, that Burton told WB he would not make the sequel unless he had full control and Peters was not around..
I can tell you Christian Bale isn't the best because he can only try to emulate Keaton's performance. Keaton was the first of the "black-suit" Batman, and he was the first to truly be intimidating.
This movie inspired the creation of Batman the animated series. I watched that show when I was a kid and I still love it. The show is like an animated adaptation of this movie. Too bad they took it down and replaced it with The Batman tv show which sucks.

fuck all of yaa!! the best batman movie ever is Batman Begins and then Batman the dark knight!!...the best actors and of cours the greatest car they ever done....Christian Bale is the man who can play the batman because he have the right voice and look so good in the new batman suit!!..and dont forget the joker...fuck jack nicholson fucking clown in the batman 89s..its only one person can play the joker and it is Heath Ledger the real joker must be a psycho killer!!....
I also must agree.. you are a bunch of little kiddies who don´t have the faintest idea, what the 80´s were like.. This movie was a milestone, and Keaton/Nicholson were the best actors in this time for those roles. Batman begins was in fact very bad. Liam Neeson is no good villain, and Katie Holmes sucks my balls. Just like Tanja..
dang your wrong. i absolutly love the dark knight and batman begins, but you have to take it way back. if adam west wouldnt accept the tv show, we wouldnt have the 80's batman, and automatically, the dark knight or batman begins. the same with cesar romero.
this Batman was my 1st Batman movie that I ever saw as an 8 year old, and this movie altogether w/ other Burton films, made me fall in love w/ his style and eye as a director. He shot the character of batman unlike any other director, and to me Michael Keaton and Nicholson will allways be immemorable Batman and Joker personifications (though Ledger's portrayal was indeed wonderful) but I missed the tremendous touch of Elfman's music, which is the SOUL of the pic.
To this day, this Batman which came out in 1989 is still one of the best. I also like Batman: The Movie (1966), Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman Begins, and Batman: The Dark Knight. I didn't like Batman & Robin. The annimated Batman movies; Batman the Phantasm, Batman: Subzero, and Batman Beyond: The Movie were good for annimated features.
I have to say Batman is still my favorite superhero. I've loved Batman since I was 3 years old.
When This came out for each day it was in the movie theater I seen it at every showing of each day until it came out on VHS thank god my dad worked for a movie theater or tickets would have made my family broke. I love this movie. It's the best ever.
Is it just me, or does the version of "Finale" used in this sound slightly different to the one in the movie. Don't know whether it's just the quality of the sound but it does sound like a slightly different mix.
dude this is the real batman make no doubt ever tim burton made batman batman they should have never went away from this type of brute classic gritty batman style all of its own i mean this is the BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER MADE time burton shoulda fired peter gruber and made the rest of the batman seirries him self and the joker holy crap the best villan ever please make a true batman film tim ? or ill be forced to never watch any other batman movie in history
"dude this is the real batman make no doubt ever tim burton made batman batman they should have never went away from this type of brute classic gritty batman style all of its own i mean this is the BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER MADE"
Blah blah blah. Live in the PRESENT - Batman Begins destroyed this. Batman is for old people. BATMAN BEGINS is for the MODERN AGE. I prefer to live NOW, not in nostalgia.
Batman Begins was tight!! it was wat batman was all about FEAR!! He fuxs wit da villains heads!!! how can u say that that wasnt badass!!! da first two were koolass too! dont think Heath can top Jack tho...or can he????... ether way Batman is da sickest hero eva!!!
get over it. Christian Bale resurrected the Dark Knight that Joel Shumacher so expertly fucked up the ass. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were shit, I give you that, but Batman Begins was awesome. Get over yourself and open your eyes, things change
I Don't Think So. B. Begin's Doesn't Have: The Mistic Music Of Danny Elfman (Great), a Clean & Misterious Gothan City, a Serious Bruce Wayne. And you cant not see fine many scenes of action. Bad Photography.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
He must be embarraesd to talk about this, because Jacholson made some good movies, good dramas, action or whatever, but this... nah, forget it, if u're a batman fac u'd say: "Maaan, it's the best movie ever! his acting was good blah blah." I say this is one of his worst appearance.
I agree. I believe heath ledger is going to blow him out of the park. A lot of people withing small circles said it would be a hard act to follow. But it has little to do with Jack really. And more with the Joker as a character.
Yeah Jack Nicholson charged practically and arm and a leg for this movie.
Tim Burton's Batman movies in my opinion are a work of art (same with Nolan's batman movies. theyre both very different but oh well.) I also think this and Batman Returns capture the spirit and the atmosphere of Batman.

So stop complaining about good movies, you're just a spoiled brat.

dang your wrong. i absolutly love the dark knight and batman begins, but you have to take it way back. if adam west wouldnt accept the tv show, we wouldnt have the 80's batman, and automatically, the dark knight or batman begins. the same with cesar romero.

I agree w/ 1985Nebreaska,
this Batman was my 1st Batman movie that I ever saw as an 8 year old, and this movie altogether w/ other Burton films, made me fall in love w/ his style and eye as a director.

Wow, this documentary took me back to 1989 - the year of great Summer flicks. Thanks for uploading this!

Kevin Conroy on TAS is always going to be the real batman to me.
Sure it was inspired in part by this movie, but I think it's true genius is quite independent of it.

Is it just me, or does the version of "Finale" used in this sound slightly different to the one in the movie. Don't know whether it's just the quality of the sound but it does sound like a slightly different mix.

I think it's a bit off key at times and the bell at the end is quiet.

Blah blah blah. Live in the PRESENT - Batman Begins destroyed this. Batman is for old people. BATMAN BEGINS is for the MODERN AGE. I prefer to live NOW, not in nostalgia.

yeah, and the modern age sucks. give me jack nicholson over some overrated young punk who looks like he came straight out a sewer.

Batman The Dark Night (2008) - Is Going To Be a Shit
Batman Begins (2005) - Was a Shit Absolutely
Batman & Robin (1997) - Was a Fucking Shit
Batman Forever (1994) - Was a Fucking Shit
BATMAN RETURN'S (1992) and BATMAN (1989), Were So GREAT, FANTASTIC, SUPER, COOL, You Know?
TIM BURTON... Why You Leave BATMAN Whyyyyy????
yetoporon 4 years ago
get over it.

Bad Photography.
yetoporon 4 years ago
Hans Zimmer did a pretty good job with creating a dismal soundtrack for Batman Begins. And I dont suspect a city imploding on itself will be clean.

Why is there never Jack Nicholson to talk about this film.
Chrisky81 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
He must be embarraesd to talk about this, because Jacholson made some good movies, good dramas, action or whatever, but this... nah, forget it, if u're a batman fac u'd say: "Maaan, it's the best movie ever! his acting was good blah blah." I say this is one of his worst appearance.

1989 . it's a good movie

I agree. I believe heath ledger is going to blow him out of the park. A lot of people withing small circles said it would be a hard act to follow. But it has little to do with Jack really. And more with the Joker as a character.
Yeah Jack Nicholson charged practically and arm and a leg for this movie.
