I think necrophagist and obscura can be the only bands to combine half-whole diminishes, harmonics, and naturals in here without the atonement of brutality. The black dahlia murder is all skill with harmonics and arpeggios with some whole-half diminishes.
@nihility666 when are all these stupid complainers gonna realize that they really don't need to listen to that music if they don't like it?
every band is free to do what they want, and if you check it out and think it sounds predictable than just leave it again.there is nobody saying that you HAVE to like it. go listen to the type of music that you think is good and stop complaining!
just accept that many people like this kinda stuff, just like there are many who like rap, dub step or whatever..
@nihility666 could you elaborate on what a "pivot point riff" is? I'm genuinely intrigued by the phrase. I think I've kinda got the idea but not sure.
@BackboneOfTheSky a pivot point is basically a reoccurring pitch and a point of return (often the root) that's proceeded by a chord or in this case and most modern metal an intervalic shift, usually the octave and then weaving in and out of consonant and dissonant pitch-classes. the riff @ 1:11
@MetalTillIDie461 I've heard there name, never interested me for some reason... sometimes judging a book by it's cover works. I'll check em out later.
@NahaleGuitar LOL dude... Obscura isn't influenced by modern bands like that at all... although I think Wretched is a great band, Their influences are mostly Death, Cynic, Opeth Athiest, Gorguts, Necrophagist and Pestilence (duh), and Emperor.
Obscura's new album is so good love all the songs on the album. My band put up some demo songs fairly recent check them out on our facebok: My Missing Half
These guys ALMOST (I stress ALMOST) played better live than The Black Dahlia Murder a few years back. so i can only imagine there progression in music being even better live now!
I don't care if you guys hate my comment....but I can't stand the sound of the drummer's snare....yep...still listening....snare ruins the entire song for me. The band is really good tho.
@juustosiivu Ow yeah forgot about Opeth, but I don't really see them as Death Metal, though they pretty much are :p but most of the times I hear a Death Metal song that isn't by Death or Opeth it sounds like they are just trying to play as fast as possible and it doesn't sound good in my ears, no offense though. But I'll definitely check out Nile.
@TheRealMechanix Check out the classic death metal bands like Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Obituary, Immolation, Incantation, Asphyx, Sinister, Gorefest, Brutality, Entombed, Dismember and Carcass. Some of them play some fast stuff too, but they're definitely not speed freaks like Origin, which also rules.
@redl3ss I know some of those names but the only one I've ever listened to is Carcass, I liked them but never really checked them out some more. Thanks for the advice!
@Oureradication If he listens to At The Gates there is a strong possibility that he will also begin listening to a lot of non-death melodic death metal bands. However, At The Gates rules.
@TheRealMechanix if you're liking this, check out the new album by anomalous. they're pretty underground but it's one of the best technical death metal albums i've ever heard. not as melodic as this but just amazing music. it's called OHmnivalent ( strange that there is a similarity between the two titles, isn't it? )
@sheetstain69 Maybe not their most recent record, but their first six records were pretty death metal-oriented. Especially Blackwater Park, Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse.
@zarucarsha Yeah definitely, im a huge Opeth fan, like them a looooooot more than these guys, i just think its cool these have the same kind of tactics with a more technical kind of metal with it, and pull it off fucking great. Blackwater park i think is still my favorite, cant get over Harvest for some reason, even though its simple, just utterly beautiful.
ahh... "adult metal", you say? is that some kind of new sub-sub-sub-genre i haven't heard about? or just you trying to impress the other teenagers? :D
@ulicesflores This album is possibly their best, I've listened to like half of it so far but its really good and technical. But since this album is not available to buy yet, you either have to: A) Download it off of a filesharing website or torrent it or B) Wait until it comes out and buy it, I mean you should support these guys by buying it but I wanted to listen to it so I just downloaded it.
@ulicesflores You are quite welcome. P.s. Anti Cosmic Overload is probably their second best so if you want you could check that out but it's your choice. \m/
@frankster666metal You lucky fuck. My neighbors are a bunch of rednecks who ride their dirt bikes around in the front yard, and you get a metal god on your street? Life's not fair!
