  • Every now and then you hear a band ahead of its time. Folks, this is the one!

  • horns and strings. love em.

  • loved it at the time. love it now. truth.

  • I saw them at the American Legion Hall in Lincolnwood, IL and at a performance at SIU in Carbondale, IL. A great band with a sound ahead of their time!☺

  • Bought this album in 1970 at the PX in Izmir, Turkey. Loved them!

  • @CowgirlCO53 was at ft ord ca. by then pretty sure i'd heard this in civilian life. drafted but willing to see what was happening. trusting in god .didn't let me down.

  • this is an awsome song!

    really underated

  • Jeff Surges and Universe did a badass cover this classic!

  • Saw somewhere in Missouri in the early '70's. The band I ran sound for actually did a cover of The Clown. We had one hell of a violin player at the time...

  • i purchased The Flock album and regrettably loaned it out trying to spread the word on The Flock...never got it back. Jerry Goodman is one reason i picked up the violin.

  • alguien me explica que genero es

pensaba que la banda era de jazz-rock

y luego me dijieron que era garage

y ahora le tomo un sonido funk

y con una voz muy soul

  • I saw this band at the 1969 Denver Pop Festival. The picture of Jerry on the back of this album was taken that night. I still have the album. I saw Jerry in 1885 when he was touring behind On the Future of Aviation. It was a small club, and we were sitting at a table right in front of him. I went backstage during the break to get him to autograph The Flock and Birds of Fire. He was really great and invited me to hang out with the band till they had to go back onstage. Truly a night to remember.

  • Fill under IF and Chicago-Hey man Got any Bloodwyn Pig. I wasted more money on stupid bands like this when I was a kid. They sound o.k. now... .But when I was 14 I wanted Sabbath, and Stooges! Also if any band had a bald guy in it my friend and I would always say" Bald, No good"

  • "Bald, no good?" I guess you never heard Spirit live. Too bad... :o)

  • @oldollie Spirit live was recorded in England and released around 1980 if I remember right.. I have all the later spirit albums and have always liked Randy California. However all those albums pale compared to the first and Dr. Sardonicus Yes Ed Cassidy was bald but I was 12 years old and not yet buying albums. Also liked Jo Jo Gunne [who are back together] and Capt. Copter.[Randy] .P.S. My friend was Dave Wyndorf from Monster Magnet. Also there is Cool bald and corny bald.

  • I love this song and agree it is a true standout of the era. Wish all their songs were of this quality, but glad to have enjoyed The Flock many an hour!

  • I bought the album after hearing them played by John Peel and loved it. Years later I played it to my son to show that violin can be a real rock instrument. (It worked - he's into Metal big-time). Still stunned by how well this track stands up instrumentally.... Is it true they played Reading & wouldn't leave?

  • Saw them at the Fillmore East and loved it ! Have not heard this in a long time !

  • I grew up in Springfield, Illinois in the late sixty's and used to listen to this album all the time. I didn't own it but my neighbor Gus did. Great memories of this song and Store Bought.

  • Awesome track by an awesome band! This was one of my favorite albums ever! Thanks for posting!

  • wario364 stil hav there album and they were fantastic and yes o one knows them

  • sky river rock festival 69 great show they stole the whole event

  • I saw them at The Kinetic Playground in Chicago with Muddy Waters in '69 or early '70. They cranked hard & fast, & didn't let up for a minute. It was cool to see Muddy, too. "High Tide & Green Grass." Regards, '62 Mathew St.

  • Kinetic Playground, Frost, Roterey Connection, Aorta, Psychedelic Mushroom. Great venue for regional bands. What an era for music.

  • @OlRetro Nice too hear,I also was at this concert.Totally agree ,a great time and space. VintagePeavey

  • Saw these guys in Evansville, Indiana in 1969 at an all ages club called the 13th Hour (it was in the basement of an ABC Discount Center!) They started with this song and blew the place apart. One of the really great horn bands.

  • A lot of the baby boomers in Europe probably remember the Flock. My mom's one of them.

  • I knew this band from Chicago's north side and while in Germany on government business during the late 60s was able to find their albums everywhere.

  • I think there are about 20 of us out there who know this band. My happiest memories are related to their music. How weird to find others out here in cyberville.

  • yea -great band outta chicago-i got this on lp-on back is a raving review from john mayall-got a couple more lps from them-suprized they never made it bigger-oh well

  • @hwoodhayes Yeah, I'm one of the 20. I just came here to test my theory that I was the only one who had ever heard of them. Guess not. Anticipated prog and fusion and great harmony bands. Absolutely the best never heard of American Band. Although, apparently, some of us heard of them.

  • @hwoodhayes 21. Love them. Jerry is a genius. His work with Mahavishnu is unbelievable.

  • One of the greatest bands to ever exist. And no one knows who they are.

  • SO TRUE!!!

  • Amen.

  • @Plexidi I bought this at age 16 ,1969 but to tell the truth,where I lived, you couldn't listen first-buy later.I was lucky on this &Santana's first album,etc.
