Fantastic cut - about 5 times better than the version on "Revolution...." - perfect level, unlike the '71 release. They should have used this cut on that release, though it too could use some "PG" edits.
I've not heard the "Revolution...." version ; I'll take your word that it's inferior to this, this cut here surely does kick butt. Not sure what you meant in your reference to, ' "PG" edits' though? ;-j
Wouldn't be comfortable playing' it for the old folks on Sunday afternoon. They should have removed some vocal parts on these live versions, as they did on the original Brother Rapp (Let The Brother Rapp). Must have been exciting to experience at the venue but on record....uh-uh-uh...eeeeeaaaahhhhh! (Where's that Andy Williams album? jk).
hhmmm, well...if that's your choice, so be it. Play it or don't I say! :-) Not keen on censorship just for sensibilities sake myself, imagine how mundane life would become. Give 'em some Funk Brothers instead if James is too raw for 'em!?
lol @ the Andy Williams reference :-D Yea...I can hear it now....♪♫ He's playing solitaire.......a little hope goes up in s-s-s-SMOKIN'!!! EEEEYYYYAAA!! ♪♫ lol Cheers! ☺ ;-j
I saw James Brown in 2005, Oakland, Ca. He was 72 (SEVENTY TWO). The swow was exactly 90 minutes long, very tight and on piont. Mr. Brown played the drums and harmonica.
The last time I saw JB was in the mid nineties at House of Blues in Las Vegas. He was in his sixties and I wasn't expecting him to be as "tight" as when he performed Hot Pants at Club Cheeta in N.Y in 70's right around the same time as this particular cut. Well, he made a lier out of me and sounded exactly like this. Good memories!
Thanks for this. James was always razor sharp when he was on stage. I actually prefer his live performances because you see how he was always creating something new in his music.
You're welcome ☺ Yea....as you say, about his live performances. JB was no slouch in the studio either. No surprise th@ he was known as "the hardest working man in show business" ;-j

The "Revolution Of The Mind" version is NOT inferior to this. It is SUPERIOR! I have both versions...Check my videos for more james Brown stuff...

@IkeDyson - Ike, this is a much better version as far as the mix goes. There is no comparison.

Oh yeah? Well, dig the "Revolution" version I just posted with my own personal mix, which seems to have gone through this time! This is good, though!
