one night in the Quater. I met this Lady. The next two days, PARTY. Parades. Canal St and Fat City. A stripper but my God what a woman. There to work the party. She was from Miami. She gave me her number. I called her being I was in Miami. Met her, and her husband. Damn, it ' s not always as it seems. Money is money. They were friends. Good times.
Finally got Willy. What a talent. If you were born and raised in the great Cresent City of New Orleans, you would be a freakin God. You have the sound and the look. Your whiskey, smoke filled voice is so fabulous. Would have loved to have heaed your redition of " Look of Love" or " Rainy Night in Georgia" I bet New Orleans' fav son would also. Mr Harry Connick, Jr. Hope I spelled that right.
Man, woman, child, where has this stuff been. I am being sent to a time that was filled with coolness. Thanks to the power that be that be having this stuff be put on right here! Can you dig it. It's on!
@esome11 in addition...the guitar groove and tone is rare, to me...this feels like New Mexico, ABQ, tucson treacherous coolness on a warm cool evening, sipping brandy, smokin and just sliding. This man lives on and thanks for your legacy, Mink Too Cool for words!
nooooooo fantastico !!! di questo pezzo mi impressionò molto il videoclip ai tempi di Deejay television ...possibile che nessuno lo uppa? era bellissimo...o almeno io lo ricordo così
I meet him in 1988 in Aachen/germany after a Gig in a little Club. He speak with me and my girlfriend, drink and smoke with us. What a great Artist with a wonderfull feeling. I'm very sad because he's gone. R.I.P. Willy
@binheiss I guess Willie would talk to anybody. And I mean that in the best sense. I met him in a stationary store in Greenwich Village a few years back. He just introduced himself to me and we talked for an hour, walking the streets. Willie was the only celebrity I ever spent time with. He was pretty desperate and crazy at the time (something I think happened on and off for his whole life). But also generous and sweet. At the very least he gave me a memory I'll keep for my whole life.
What is a song by this same artist that has a lot of low bass? U2 used this song and another by Willy to check the sound system...I really enjoy this song and would love to find out what the other one was. Thanks
Celebrate Willy's life and music on Saturday, October 10. We'll meet to mingle at 3pm on the Avenue B side of Tompkins Square Park. At 5pm we'll move to:
Bar on A, 170 Avenue A, NYC, 10009
We have RSVP's from Canada, San Francisco and Kansas City! We look forward to seeing you there.
Is he dead? No way! Legend. This song just popped into my head this week, hadn't heard it for years and years - it must have been Willy speaking to me from the other side. RIP Willy. X
Willy DeVille is America's loss even if America doesnt know it yet. The reason is simple: Like the very best rock and roll writers and performers in our history, hes one of the very few who got it right; he understood what made a three-minute song great, and why it mattered—because it mattered to him. He lived and died with the audience in his shows, and he gave them something to remember when they left the theater, because he meant every single word of every song as he performed it.
The 'VOICE' - need I say anything else. I am FOREVER addicted to Willy. He is the ultimate master! Thank you Willy and be at peace with your angels!!!
A perfect song. Such beautiful poetry. I listened to it hundreds of times in '87 after I'd gotten dumped by my greatest love. Just found it here a few days ago and then noticed some new posts about his passing. Rest well Willy, and thanks.
You made one of the very best CDs in my collection, together with producer Marc Knopfler. Your music created many great memories in my life, and will still do. Really sad you have to leave so soon, you were something very unique as an artist... really sad news !
yep i was there! that's why i looked up the song too, they were doing it to sychronise the front and back speakers to get the time delay correct, and we were sitting listening to them play it over and over
This music went so well in the Movie 'Rachel Papers it's as if the music was made especially 4 that movie. I also loved it then & still love it now... When did u last watch R.P ? - They don't make films like that anymore; what we get 2day is 'American Pie' & more films that lack in educating & enriching the youth of 2day.
