@JParkLMC The Avatar spirit mastered firebending over 1000 times, and the otger elements. That is why Aang was able to do advanced waterbending so easily in 'The waterbending scroll', while Katara struggled. At the end of the series,Aang hasnt mastered firebending, as Zuko states in Sozin's Comet pt 1. After the series ended, Aang would finish his firebending training and surpass Zuko and Iroh.

@novide0s Do explain. Is he the best Firebender because only because he is the Avatar? Because I would think that he is the best *bender* in general because he knows all four elements. However, I wouldn't say that he is the best *Firebender* because if you were to put Aang up against Zuko (his Firebending teacher) or Iroh (one of the best Firebenders; if not, THE best, in the world) knowing all four elements, he would definetly win. But what if you were to put Aang up knowing only Firebending??

@AcidReign22 I suppose so. The only people known to be able to generate lightning are Ozai, Azula, and, of course, Iroh. The only people known to be able to *redirect* lightning, however, are Iroh, and, as you've seen in the video, Zuko. :D

If born in the winter, you were water... If born in the spring, you were earth... Finally if born in the fall, you were air... I think it merely shows azula channels her powers differently than the other masters. Seeing that she had a mental breakdown in the finale, I think it is safe to say she was not at peace through the series.

...Why does everyone think all new Airbenders would have to be descended from Aang? Anyone could learn to bend any element, so long as they take the time to train. True, some people are born with a natural talent to bend, but think about it. The show makes mention of the first people to learn bending from the Sky Bison/Dragons/Moon/Badger Moles. At some point, nobody could bend at all; it's a learned skill, not in-born. So new Airbenders could easily be non-Benders who train with Appa or Aang.

@forditable Within that time the art of airbending would likely be rediscovered. It's not like you can't have other people rediscovering things after all. And then they would look to the skies and see air and they would bend it. Although they likely wouldn't have the same cultural values as the monks, so their view on bending might be very different.

Maybe some refugees from the war would settle the old airbending ruins?

The first airbenders saw the animals that airbended and learned from them. Even if Aang doesn't teach a single new airbender, the art wouldn't be entirely lost. It would just be completely different. Like the Water Tribes bend differently from the guys in the marsh.
