The thing you have to remember is that this coaster was built JUST before any kind of flying reliable flying coaster was available. My guess is that they would have chosen a flying coaster if it had been available at the time. Unfortunately that wasn't the case! However this coaster is the next best thing. You basically take a classic looping coaster and drop the floor and you get this.

This was built before flying coasters were common. The first flying coaster like the one at Great America in Chicago wasn't built until 2002. Batwing at Six Flags America in Largo, Maryland is made by a totally different company.
