  • Hey I have phenom ii 550 the same as you but my motherboard resist only 140wats and when i changed the processor in bios i got 4 cores but i also got 158wats and its too much for motherboard. I didn't have any problems. You think it's dangerous to leave 158wats?

  • But do you know WHY they disable these cores?

    They have faults in manufacturing.

They intended to make a quad-core, but one or more cores had a fault and they recycled it by disabling these faulty cores.

  • @almann1117 Doesn't seem to faulty - I've since passed this cpu over to a friend who's been running it unlocked for over a year and it's still going strong..... It seems to be one of those things that either work or don't work and if it works it's stable.

  • @Cruising270 You get a higher chance for error; they could have also thought there was a chance of failure in the future. I'm glad you've saved money though :)

  • @almann1117 That's ONE of the reasons why they lock those cores.

Another reason why they lock the cores is due to demand, when they need duel cores because people want them (due to the lower price) they'll simply lock the other two perfectly fine cores.

  • @Orangesplaywith How does that make sense financially?

  • @almann1117 Because they would rather make the quick buck by selling the CPU at a cheaper rate than to lose the buy just because the customer might not want a quad core and he might not even want to unlock it. They make these CPUs for around 10 bucks each, if even. They're making more than enough profit.

  • Hi guys, i've Asrock 770extreme3 mb, with phenom II x2 550 black, my chances are high?:D

  • it possible athlon 2x 220

  • @peppelesnar i have an athlon x2 220 but mine doesnt have some extra cores

  • will it unlock amd althlon II x2 240?

  • @Girsheliz no since the 240 is a native dual core (i have it my self OCed to 3.5ghz)

  • I bought a x2 550 and its not a black edition..... Good chance it will unlock?

  • hey..i unlock the cores X2 to X4 but quad core is not supporting, triple cores is supporting...perfectly.. wat i did is go to msconfig - boot - advanced options - change cores to 3....awesome but my cpu making lot of fan noise.....im scared.... making overclocking it ill kills processor?....especially my processor is amd phenom ii X2 550 not B E.......

  • @maheshtanay It gets hotter due to using the extra energy, I don't recommend it. Mine is unstable at 4, and on 3 programs freeze alot, so I just kept my 2 cores. And I have 550 BE.

  • if overclock 2 cores to 4 cores it ill work properly or any cause to processor life time reduce......im confused...can u temme briefly bout tat...

  • yes

  • will this processor will be better than a Phenom II X4 955 when unlocked?

  • i already done with this way...but no use of it.....my processor is amd phenom II X2 550 3.1, gigabyte motherboard GA-MA74GMT-S2. after updating same way..wen i play the game after rebooting total entirely system was hanged like idol......what can i do..is there any alternative solutions....

  • @maheshtanay it probably means that your processor that was a quad that 2 of the cores didnt work at all, so amd made it a dual core instead of throwing it out and wasting money.

  • i ill upload when i overclocked my system....totally different.......

  • i done the same way...after rebooting i played game but entirely system was hanged like idol....wats the problem....my processor is amd phenom II X2 550 3.1, gigabyte motherboard GA-MA74GMT-S2 (rev. 1.4).

  • i turned my phenom x2 core into a x14 core

  • @batterycock u wish....

  • I was just wondering, does anyone know what keyboard he is using? It looks pretty sweet.

  • tHE REASON WHY SOME PPL HAVE CRASHING PROBLEMS IS BECAUSE WHEN U UNLOCK THE 4 HIDDEN CORES IT BECAUSE 125WATT INSTEAD OF 80 AND IT GOES BEYOND WHAT SOME PPL MOTHERBOARDS CAN HANDLE

  • I wish i could turn my anthlon x4 to a anthlon x6 =3

  • @rerundadog there is no such "anthlon" processor :-)

  • Hey ! Amd phenom II x2 550 True Dual-core (NO B.E) , unlocking cores ?

  • i have phenom ll x4 955 black 3.2GHz is that good? i dont know if i should like replace it..

  • БЛЯЯЯЯЯЯ ебаный америкос с ебаным голосом! Твой голос дерьмо!Противный.

  • do you need a black edition to make this work?

  • will unlocking the 555 amd phenom ii x2 to 4 cores and maybe overclocking slightly be safe on the stock cpu cooler and heatsink? thanks

  • @abeershahid I wouldn't chance it, you might burn it up, unlocking the other cores will put more heat cuz it uses more wattage. Get a better cooler just in case. Dont chance it.

  • @lunar05 ah see i was afraid someone would say that lol i wanted to save money may not bother then ive never built a pc before and hope to make one in august. thanks for the reply

  • @abeershahid my recommendation to you, if your using your computer for extreme multitasking IE. internet, games, and video editing all in one go, get a quad core, but lets say your just gaming and using internet, listening to music at the same time just go with a good dual core, me i'm going with the AMD Phenom II x4 quad core for only 100 bucks, cheap processor very powerful.

  • @lunar05 yeah due to my budget my option was either a amd athlon ii x4 3 ghz processor or phenom ii x2 3.2 ghz so i went for the phenom due to the extra power as im not much of a multitasker on computers, but advice is appreciated for a noob like me lol

  • @abeershahid Due to hard times, i'm only able to put 800-900 into my computer

Specs that i will be working on is

    Corsair 600t Mid tower case

Amd Phenom II x4 3.4ghz processor

    Motherboard: To be Decided

    PSU 600W ultra

4 gig ddr3 memory, dvd rom drive, AMD Radeon 5770 1gb memory

the rest is to be decided

  • @lunar05 nice nice im still researching but im probably going with nvidia 560ti graphics card, intel i3 3ghz processor (it can come overclocked from overclocker.co.uk with a motherboard and ram and aftermarket cooler in a special bundle deal) and still researching the other specs but price wise similar budget to u

  • @lunar05 Change your Psu to a CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 (CMPSU-600CX) 600W ATX12V v2.3 Active PFC Power Supply

  • @lunar05 you could do much better with 800 bucks, ill message you a build if you want.

  • hey dude would asus M4N68T M LE V2 work it says on box that it does support ACC but its a mATX and it doesnt have either north or south bridge. sry im a noob. would it unlock.

  • will unlocking the cores cause heat to generate heat of the processor?, if so how much? cause i will be building my friend a budget gaming PC which will use the phenom II x2.

  • "Not bad for a $99 dollar cpu. :)"

    IT'S FREAKIN' FANTASTIC.

  • can this motherboard :

    GA-880GM-UD2H

unlock my amd phenom ii x2 550 to a quad core?

if yes what should i do

    thank you

  • I also bought one and got a golden ticket !

  • i recommend a ASUS M4A78LT-M LE motherboard verry nice and cheap and unlocks the cores. check out my vid

  • @Alsiv10 i think it will work...

  • Oh yeah and my motherboard is Asus ma77td PRO ? Will it work?

  • I have same thing but 545? Will it work? And not Black edition ...

  • @ToonFreak559 hey dude. i've unlocked my 560 with no problems. it can save you some money these days

  • will it be unlocked on gigabyte ga ma785gm US2H Motherboard.Plz repl me.

  • got this done, it was the easiest thing to unlock to 4 cores, i didnt even have to update my bios or anything it was running F11

  • Im gonna buy a new mobo to do this but I can't find any mobos that work AND are in stock. I found a store that sells Gigabyte MA770T-UD3, now my question is, is this a different model just because it doesn't have a P in the name, UD3P?

  • put this in your search engine Unlocking AMD x2 & x3 in quad – Supported Motherboard list and the list will come up of mother boards.

  • Hey who do i know if the mother board can be used to unlock the processor. What do I look for when i buy a mother for amd processors

  • what does the core values mean after you unlock it????

  • AWESOME!!!!! thanks for the extra information! it helped me unlock 2 cores on my phenom II x2 560 or should i say phenom II x4 b560 :D

did it on a msi 880gm-e41 motherboard

  • You're really hot, Crusing270. Can I come over and overclock YOUR processor? Mmmm :)

  • I could unlock my 4 cores but 1 of them I think is broken:/ Atleast it shows random colored squares :/

  • Alright...........STOP EATING YOUR SPIT AND SUCKING YOUR TEETH WHILE TALKING !

That's so disgusting and you look like an uneducated disgusting idiot, eating your spit with noises while talking.

  • @vrcraft

    ''eating your spit''

With a statement like that you're not qualified to call someone uneducated. Go be an asshole somewhere else, dipshit.

  • @smartguy9765

If you don't have anything to say then FUCK OFF and SHUT THE FUCK UP. This guy is even more disgusting than you, little fella ! He's spitting and sucking his teeth while saying all this shit. What are you, his baby brother or something ? Are you that Bieber dude ?! FUCK, GET OFF ME YOU FUCKING ASS OFFENDERS !

  • @vrcraft

Where did that come from? Got molested by daddy and is now projecting your pathetic anger at Youtube?

    Take it somewhere else kiddie.

  • @smartguy9765

Don't try to act smart, you dumb ass.

  • @vrcraft

What? Am i using to big words? Fuck off, Romanian monstrosity.

  • can i do this with a non-BE version??

  • amdx2 7750 be is the best for doing tht ive heard TELL ME HOW NAO :3 i have i and i want ma quad cores

  • Wow this is more complicated all I do is go into BIOS then just enable 'unlock hidden cores' lol but thats because my MSI motherboard comes with a core unlocker =D

  • also when a dual or triple core prosc is in demand they will lock up higher end cpus and sell them as lower end cpus

  • and even if you cant unlock all four cores it is still a f*kng fast dual or tripple core processor this can reach 4ghz on air in quad core 4 ghz on air OMG

  • i unlocked it with my gigabyte MA770-UD3. works fine pushed it through 3dmark a few times, installed games, played games works fine. i also have overclocked a little to 3.5Ghz i can clearly go more but dont really want to or need to, im using a Zalman 9500 heatsink which i took from my Athlon 6000+ . it runs at 42C full load.

  • I unlocked with a M4N68T-M LE V2, Phenom ii 555 x2 -> x4

With "Asus Core Unlocker", its a very cheap mobo

  • It'll work with Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3? Thanks for the answers.

  • @xCortenx yes i did it with same motherboard to do took maybe a few seconds to unlock and overclock.

  • you know you can use the latest bios for the newer motherboards because they have 2 chips in it (onne with the old code) thats why u turn it to hybrid.

  • thanks for the help dude i was able to unlock my phenom ii x2 560 to a 4 core. Still waiting to see how well it does and then iam going to overclock it thanks.

  • thanks for this man. I just ordered this cpu and an asus mobo. I read that the mother board i got has a button that unlocks the cores but i dont know if it is software or hadrware yet :D ill make a vid when i get it running.

  • I was lucky enough to unlock all four. I just recently OC to 3.5 ghz. One question though, how can I monitor my CPU temp? I have CPU Themometer and Core Temp but it doesn't show any temps. Any one know how to fix?

  • Can you unlock x2 to x3 incase one core isn't working?

  • @Veiko96

Some bios allow you to do that.

I am using gigabyte ga ma770t ud3p bios version f10. In acc options, you can disable or enable individual cores.

  • Whats the difference between dual and quad core...? because i honestly prefer dual core.

  • Thanks man, btw did u notice a better performance with the extra 2 cores, but with OCing?

  • i tried in my GA-MA785GT-UD3H (rev. 1.0) with the lastest BIOS (F8) and my pc starts but windows show me phenom X2 processor, what happen?

    Regards.

  • I'm ordering this tomorrow, and I wanted to know if the overclock would work with my Mobo? My model is a Gigabyte MA785G-UD3H. and If it would work, if you know, would I still get that updated BIOS? or a different version?

  • What should I search for MA-770T-UD3? Please help

  • it worked for me! phenom II 555 to phenom x4 b55! Only problem is that the temp rises to 58 Cº under load... i have a cheap case and stock cooler...

  • When I put Advanced Clock Calibration to: "Auto" I still have 3 cores... I could a valid Mobo and a Phenom II X3 720. What should I do? I also don't have the EC Firmware option...

  • Comment removed

  • Which CPU would be better to get? All three are really lose in price.

Athlon II x4 640 3.1GHz or Phenom II x2 550be/560be and unlock the cores?

  • @fivestarsi5 Always go for the sure buy. You are taking a chance with a x2 550BE. It might only unlock 1 core, or none at all.

  • @fivestarsi5 If i were u i'd go for the phenom II...Basically coz it has an l3 cache..+ u can unlock it.

  • I am able to unlock the cores for x2 560

    and running on stock

    and running on 16.5 * 200

and is able to run prime

however anything about 16.5 * 200 and anything about stock auto volt

    the system bsod

    suggestions?

  • Can i unlock the extra cores with MSI 870-G45

  • @mukangbetlog Yeah you can! It has the 710 south bridge! I am using now an MSI 880-E53! Works good also! :D Dude it's amazing the boost you get!! :D

  • @ToonFreak559 go for the phenom x3 740...for the same price you get a guaranteed 3 cores...and has a high unlock rate for the fourth core

  • @ToonFreak559 I believe both of those are possible to unlock as well. Like rtb3796 said, check reviews because it's usually mentioned.

  • ok..i did everything like you,but my computer wont start after changes in BIOS..i dont know what the problem is..pls help!

  • @ImABigBoy14 it's not a guarantee that it will work for all. It's worth a shot but if it fails to boot after making the changes it's likely you have a 550 that wont unlock. Still a great dual core cpu so don't fret.

  • @Cruising270 ah well..at least i can overclock :)

thanks and have a nice day!

  • @Cruising270 hey dude can u tell . is this mobo msi 740gm-p25 able to unclock other 2 cores of amd phenom ii x2 560 be cpu and make it into a full fledged quad core. i the board is cheap . its priced at 52$ i think. i has ddr3 ram support. i wanna ask do u think msi boards have quality to last long and they really unlock cores? though msi says that this particular mobo has core unlocking technology. plz help

  • @ImABigBoy14 If the cores fail to be stable after unlocking you can sometimes make them stable by increasing vCore (cpu voltage) in the BIOS by small incremental steps. But if this doesn't work then unfortunately you're probably stuck with the cores it came with

  • @ImABigBoy14 try to play with the vcore, from 1.325 make it 1.4v

  • @ImABigBoy14 i know this response is very late however there is a chance that only 1 of the 2 extra cores is bad. for me it was core 2 that needed disable. try that with votlage at 1.4 (no guarantie)

  • @ToonFreak559 i think all try looking at the cpu reviews people will say

  • Nicee:] and yeah some dont pass the inspection test but the price&demand are making these processors sell fast, Soo AMD needs to make more processors that are already quad cores and make them into dual cores, So AMD doesnt fail to give the product.

  • Phenom ii x2 550 3.1 B.E.

hi mike i tried to do your steps but the pc stays still in starting win 7 screen the one with the flags my MB is a ga-ma785gpmt-ud2h and i have been tried all

    hybrid+auto=the same problem

+voltage variation on cpu and cpu north bridge

    +ghz variation from 3.1 to 3.8

+quiet and cool disable= the same

the only i didn,t upgrade was my bios because i already have the hybrid option able, the name on the boot menu changes to phenom ii x4 i think it should work but not

  • can i do it with a gigabyte g41mt-es2l?

  • finaly made it on my 770-c45 but cant read temps anymore tried core-temp, speedfan, everest

  • ab better camera would be nice for ur vids

    but nice anyways

  • Hi,

I was wondering if this will work with the GA ma78gm us2h

  • thank you for this

  • The cores are locked because they did not pass AMDs testing. Unlocking them is unwise.

  • @Jak3Mac Incorrect. Kind of. They mass produce these, and lock cores on the quads if necessary for mass sales. Much quicker and more profitable over time to do it this way. Smart move on their part.

But yeah that's why so many people are having success with this.

  • little question. What if I'm not lucky, and 2 ulocked cores will not work, how to turn back it to 2 working cores? Just change it back from hybrid to normal and ACC to disabled ?

  • I just did this and when I went to boot up win7 64bit it hangs at the "starting windows" message and doesn't go further. Any explanation on this issue? Im using one of the mobos on your link that allow for unlocking. the GA-MA785GM-US2H

  • yea i am currently using this in my first pc also. Although all i had to do was press the 4 key when my Asus board was loading up to unlock the extra 2 cores.

  • Very nice video. Tons of information. Makes me want to order up a set a try it. Cant beat the price to get a quad core.

  • when i do this will my processor become hot ?

  • @kabbedi1 yes so you have to buy a new cooler, I use AC Freezer 64 Pro with AC mx-2 thermal compund. It's cheap and I even overclocked my cpu to 3200mhz and it never goes above 59-60. But the smarter guys can help more if you need it.

  • is this the process for x2 555?

  • @ahutmacher1 compatible with 550 be and 555 be im usin 555 and now its quad

  • I need the download that's compatible with windows 7 x64. All i can find is for windows vista. Do you think you could help?

  • Would it be compatible with a ASRock 770DE3L Motherboard?

  • @dougie097 according ASRocks website your mobo has the SB710 southbridge so as long as your board supports Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC) it should be possible.

  • Comment removed

  • hey i just unlocked all four cores with ease. went to mit set it to hybrid and set it to auto. booted up and launched cpuz and its now a x4 b55. I did not chance any voltage or anything else in the bios. but it starts off at 3.1mhz but then it drops to 800 mhz and sometimes it jumps to 2.1mhz and it goes back to 801mhz. so do i have to raise the cpu clock ratio? or increase the cpu voltage?

  • @rub504 - Do you have AMD cool and quiet mode enabled? It might be throttling back your speeds at idle to save power. Try disabling this in the bios to see if it corrects your problem.

  • @Cruising270 excuse me but "try disabling" and "corrects you problem"? I think this "cool and quiet" is a very good thing and not a problem what should be corrected. The fans are quieter and the temperatures are lower and the energy is saved in idle and when you need performance, it automatically sets back the frequencies. (I use k10stat for my unlocked x2 550). It's stable and perfect while overclocking, too (when I didnt have k10stat, I set the cpu to 3600mhz in the bios, so no errors)

  • wil the cpu get warmer if i unlock to quadcore??

  • @TheHaha09 it getting hotter actually about 5-10 extra Celsius, you'll need to invest in a nice cooler to OC+Unlock

  • @TheHaha09 Yes it will, your asking it to do more work, so its gonna get hotter.

  • @stroe14 - LeafVilltachi is correct it's the g15 by Logitech. The updated version of this keyboard called the G19 also does the same thing. You use a program like Everest to output information to the keyboard such as cpu/gpu/ram usage, and temps.

  • @stroe14 Logitech g15

  • enabled to unlock 6 cores on MSI 790XT-G45? (Phenom II x2 550 BE) (MSI 790XT-G45)

  • My 550 would crash after some time (minutes) when unlocking all cores and after hours of trying to increase voltages nothing worked. So I reduced the multiplier to14 (2.9Gh from 3.1 [might work even higher but I haven't tried yet]) and it works perfectly with stock voltages and quad core. MoBo=Asus M4A77T. I haven't done prime95 for 12 hours yet. My temps are the same with stock cooler (40*/60*C idle/load)

  • I need some help. I have a Phenom II X2 Callisto and I'm thinking about unlocking cores on it, but I have some problems with my power supply. I used the Newegg PSU calculator and it said I'd need 380 watts, I have a 400 watt power supply that I don't want to break. On another website I tried, it said I'd only need a 300 watt PSU. I have a GT 240 GPU, 2x2 GB 1600 MHz RAM, one 7200 rpm HDD, and a DVD RW burner. Also, will the stock heatsink be able to cool it?

  • @YouHaveMetYourMaker read my comment , I also have 400W PSU and 4 GB DDR3 and HD5750 and it works.

  • works perfectly on gigabyte ma790xt-ud4p mobo

  • Ain't X2 555 BE?

  • Comment removed

  • I have a UD4P. I've managed to unlock core 2 and OC to 3.7GHz, I tried 3.8GHz but it was not stable. If I unlock core 3, even if I keep core 2 disabled, windows will not load, it freezes on the loading splash screen and sometimes BSOD's or just reboots. I am new to overclocking despite years of building PC experience. Is there something I can tweak? I'm not confident enough to just start changing values! I have read it may just be an unstable core, I hope not. Cheers. Great vid.

  • Easiest to unlock on a board with a SB710 or SB750 south bridge. Just sayin'.

  • okay if i were to really do this can someone tell me what cpu fan i can get? between idk 100-150$ or less!! :D

  • So I unlocked my 550 BE to a x3 (unfortunately one of the cores wouldn't unlock) and my temps skyrocketed by about 20 C! So now I have 43 C idle and +60 C on load. I currently have the AC freezer 7 pro rev 2 and am wondering if making a switch to the CM 212 will be worth it. How much cooler should it run?

  • @chibistar12 i got the same cooler as you, its so shit =/ you cant mount it in every direction and the drop in temps from the stock aint that huge even when using as5

your lucky none of my cores would unlock it would get 2 windows loading screen then reboot :(

  • thanks a bunch, unlocked my Phenom II x2 555BE (3.2ghz, £85) into a quad on a gigabyte GA-MA770T- EM3 (£58)

    :)

  • what cooler do you have?

  • You have such a good spec PC.. but have a lame Cam Corder... go figure..

  • am not sure if after the unlock there is twice bigger cache for two more cores...if there is not..there is no reason to do this...

  • yo tengo una placa ga890xa-ud3 y procesador i 550 y no pude desbloquear necesito ayuda que mas pudo hacer

  • I have this processor now, mine was not a Black Edition version, but nevertheless gives you a hell of a lot bang for your buck since ive unlocked it to a Quad and overclocked it at stable 3.5Ghz @ 52 degrees full load using an aftermarket cooler of course. I´ve ran Prime95 for 10 hours without any overheating or unstable CPU perfromance @ 1.425Volt.

Im using the Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H, with updated BIOS and it has worked perfectly ever since! :D

    I HIGHLY Recommend it.

  • @HerrAfrikaKorps i have the same motherboard as you, i cannot unlock as it gets to the loading windows screen and reboots at 1.45v, what bios do you recommend? oh and btw i have all 4 ram slots filled is this a limitation to overclocking? please get back to me, cheers mate

  • @YousufBayoumi Hmm, i upgraded my BIOS at the same time i installed all the other motherboard drivers and got it to work with BIOS version F7. But also take in consideration that you might have been unlucky if it still doesnt work, it´s after all a gamble when you purchase it. Do you have the black edition? Because if you have you will not have to raise the RAM speed in order to achieve overclocking the CPU speed. 4GB is more than enough anyway. Good luck! :D

  • @HerrAfrikaKorps yep its a BE, i only change the multiplier when i overclock anyway =/ guess i gotta stick with my 3.8ghz overclock instead :( unlucky

  • @HerrAfrikaKorps What cooler do you use? :P

  • which code shall i use to download a new bios for the msi kf615m-p33 ???

    thanks a lot

  • i mean gf615m-p33 ofcourse...
