Bellita, Capt. Yee's JOB was to help detainees as well as guards at Guantanamo. He was not accused at all. (This is the problem, an accusation and the chance to defend one's self is the goal, which we used to have, but now is put into question.) You're right, he is just one person, like I am, and like you are...and that's why it IS a big deal. Jose Padilla is another citizen example, but I haven't researched him enough to discuss.

With regard to the practice of torture, the oppressive use of the declaration of "enemy combatants" on U.S. Citizens (denying 4th-6th amendment constitutional rights and superceding criminal law), and denying law abiding (non-convicted) citizens their privacy, a leader would fit 3 definitions of an oppressive tyrant.

Please tell me what supreme court law Bush ignored. The president isn't above the law and neither is Bush. He has challenged law which every citizen is allowed to do. If he ignores the supreme court then he will be indicted. Why is it that every pot head out there who violates the law daily, is so concerned if our president violates 1 law?

According to Bush, he is above any law HE does not deem Constitutional, yet he is not subject to the authority of the Constitution. He believes he has the authority to not respond (or his staff respond) to subpoenas or court orders by the Supreme Court, or even to obey statutes passed by congress and signed by Bush. He thinks a "signing statement" acknowledges the law is being passed, but does not apply to him.

I am sure this will be appealed- it would have been had the decision went the other way. Who knows what the supreme court might say or do. I don't worry though about it as I love God and don't follow politics too closely. Thanks to those who shared this to me.
