I saw him person a few years ago in branson, and to be honest,as much as I love Mel,his show wasnt that good, but,I guess thats what age does to ya.He is a very special singer, his music is from the heart, unlike the newer stuff you hear today.Oldies are always the best.
He was from way way before my generation, but even I must admit his talent and such a clear melodic voice! He reminds me a bit of a younger George Strait when I close my eyes and listen. George Strait was before my time as well but again I must admit I love the clear voice that both these singers have. The song is catchy too, it reminds of the songs my grandfather used to sing around the house and he would sound just like them.
Buck Peddy & Ray Price also got songwriting credit for "I'm Tired" but it was actually written by Mel Tillis. Through Buck Peddy, Ray took it to Nashville. He was singing it backstage and Webb heard him. He thought it was a great song and asked Ray if he could record it first as he needed a hit. Ray said yes and gave the song to Webb. As Webb only had one verse, he took it to Wayne Walker, who wrote a second and third verse. Wayne never got a dime, niether Ray or Buck wrote a word of it.
This song was co-written by both George Morgan and Mel Tillis.
George recorded the song on his album "Tender Lovin' Care" on the Columbia label (CS-8911) in 1963. The album was #17 on the Country charts and the song was #45 for that year.
Mel Tillis first recorded the song on his album "Let Me Talk To You" which was released on January 1, 1968. The album also climbed to #17 and the single to #26 on the Country charts for that year.

@starr522 Actually this isn't three quarter time. This is just your typical shuffle. It's 4/4 time. Great 2-stepper though ain't it? :)

Say what you want, but todays Country Music don't hold a candle to this. Country the way it should be sung. Mel Tillis. One of the best at it.
