@radaresalaam: I'm the same. He's such a knob sometimes. Then again, when you're THAT intelliegent, I think you can somehow act that way 'cos you have that confidence to say to yourself "I am better than you, therefore, fear me heathens." Members of my family are like that.
Oooh my god, I love Carlos AND his personality. I don't feel like he's being an asshole, I feel he's just really straight forward. He's a really intelligent person, he's sharp, he's witty and it's understandable that that makes some people (usually not as quick tongued or aware) uncomfortable around him. Anyway, a knife in my soul when he left Interpol, but if that's what it took to make him happy then okay. He's a wonderful person and I hope he's happy and successful in all of his endeavors.
superb musician, unparalleled wit, but man what an ass hole. great video though. the last one killed me where the interviewer stormed out of the room to get the glass of water. what a dick haha. he could have just said, "may I have a glass of water?"

Carlos D sucks dick, and Interpol sucks a fat hairy chode. All of their songs sound exactly the same. Nothing original about them in the slightest. I saw them open up for U2 and I was extremely close to booing the sad fuckers. There is nothing worse than a generic rock band.
@kikomiko1 I think I saw your comment in another Interpol video...1. Troll 2. U2 isn't original, Interpol by far more original than those guys. At least Interpol doesn't sell out to do a Spider Man musical. 3. None of their songs sound exactly the same, I'd love to take what you're taking. 4. Their post punk revival...not generic.
@kikomiko1 Idiot.. Their songs are not generic or similar.. it's called having an identity moron. Thats what makes their albums so good, their cohesive works of music where every song is great. But you wouldnt know about great albums since you most likely only listen to top 10 singles.
@jordahm Dan, Paul, and Sam have state recently that Carlos had indeed written all of his basslines. The article which are referring to (during the Antics era) Carlos was misquoted when he was explaining how Interpol songs are written in that Dan introduces an idea, and then the rest of the band fleshes it out.
I think his style of arrogance misses the mark. He aimed just a little too high. There's a style of being a prick and appearing cool and/or funny from it eg. Julian Casablancas, Nikki Sixx. But he's mainly using complex language to intimidate. That water skit translates to 'can I have a glass of water?' and when laid out like that, doesn't sound funny at all.
On a personal basis he's an arguable person, but professionally it's only Peter Hook that might stand higher... Without him, Interpol will just be 3/4 Interpol for me. The wagnerish-dramatism in their keyboard sound will be absent in the future sound I guess... I hope they won't go down entirely mainstream without him now...
I love the music but... Carlos has this "analyzing intellectual" mode he switches into when being interviewed. It gives him control, but I do not find this very genuine. Sometimes it's funny but other times it's almost aggressive. Considering that money-and lifestyle-wise his whole existence is based on people taking an interest in iinterviewing him it's childish. These people just do their job guaranteeing his lifestyle. Little Dandy, grow up!
@cuttertobe i think ur underestimating the sincere conceit of carlos, i dont think he does it to compensate for anything, nor the provoke the interviewer...he's actually just a lovable asshole. Not to mention by saying that, ur totally trivializing the role,um,their fucking music had to do w ensuring his lifestyle.True, they serve their purpose, the media, which he has to do the rounds for contractually, but i think he's just really honest about how petty he think that business part of the music is
What a master. Where did I hear it was him that brought attention to the band and made them famous? I totally believe it. P.S. I love the word "hoobaloo"
why do famous people need to drink water to talk.alan ginsberg read howl stopping to clear his throat without the aid of a water lackey.now ...get me a beer! damn it .i could understand but water is for pussies.
@jkgc Carlos is fucking cunt and i'm glad that he's not a part of interpol anymore, and even paul banks (who is awesome) doesn't have anything on Julian
Why can't he be interesting without it having to be at someone elses expense. The guy seems like an asshole to me and his basslines have gotten worse and worse as the years go by. Maybe he's a novelty that's lost its appeal.
@smutyhouse Carlos left. They wrote this 4th album and then he left, everybody knows, go cheking. They didn't announced it 'cause they're not talking to the press, they're having troubles with the record company (it won't be the Capitol Records) and that's why the album is sitll late to come out. There are some tour dates yet but surely Carlos won't be part of it, he's done with Interpol. :(
i would have taken that glass of water and dumped it on his ugly face. Who does he think he is, he lookes like the creepy thin man from charlies angels for gods sake.
Well if u watch the whole interview (available on youtube) he asks for a glass of water b4 even sitting down and he is completely ignored. If u spend a whole day giving interviews being asked the same thing I guess u wont be in the best of the moods...
@Beetlebum1992 I would not go that far...Carlos is not ugly (at least in my opinion). I do agree that he acted pretty poorly during that interview and that drink of water comment was uncalled for. I think though at that stage of the tour and the promotions being poorly handled by the record company, I think Carlos wanted out.
@tmf1977 Yeah fucking bummed out right now, I suppose it's just the initial shock of it right now though as i'm sure there were hints of him wanting to leave over the past 2/3 years. But yeah I will certainly miss that pomp, that air of arrogance about him and of course that stache. Farewell to Carlos (Weeps).
jajajaj yeah that's was hilarious!! he's strict on the woman, the woman freaks out so much and then she RUNS to bring the water, and Paul is so natural and polite "Can I have some too, please?" jajajaja
