Sanford's affair was happening from at least a full year ago. According to him his family has known about it for most of this year. Strictly speaking, he has been lying about this for quite some time. Your perjury difference really amounts to the fact that liberals are not puritanical witch hunters. If he is put on impeachment trial and tenaciously questioned about his trail hiking lie, would he commit perjury or come completely clean?
First of all, what Sanford did was wrong...completely wrong. I won't defend him one bit. And what brings his affair into the political spectrum is that it did affect his job performance. You just can't leave for a few days like that. And he has been lying, you're right, but he hasn't been lying under oath in court. So while what he did was absolutely wrong, it's not nearly the same as committing perjury. If they choose to impeach him, you won't hear much argument from me.
I want to add, I'm not defending Clinton getting blowjobs from a college intern. It is a serious abuse of authority and a potential danger to the office. Obviously, Sanford is in a similar boat: not with abusing his authority, but definitely compromising his office. Both men horribly insulted their wives.

If perjury would keep him in office perhaps Sanford would do it too.

I assumed the dominant convention of 7 continents. The Americas could be conceptualized as one, but if one were to do that then it would be logical to consider Eurasia one or even Afro-Eurasia, since all three of these continents are continuous in land mass. Why is India called a sub-continent and not Europe?
Historical reasons is all I can come up with. There doesn't seem to be any hard definition of what a continent is. The Greeks originally separated "Europe" from "Asia" and we just stuck with it I think.
And you're right, some people believe Eurasia and America (including N and S) should be considered single continents. Though why they would include Asia in Eurasia and not Africa I don't know.
This is why I never liked geography, the arbitrary borders and naming conventions are annoying ;)
They say history is written by the victors, so that may well be the final answer. In Indians had dominated the modern period, perhaps India would be a separate continent and Europe a sub-continent.
Perhaps a better analysis of plate tectonics will give us a non-arbitrary answer, but then again, sometimes truly objective accounts are not satisfying; witness the expulsion of Pluto from the list of planets.

What Sanford did was horrible in a lot of ways, and in some ways worse than Clinton. But its not the same Clinton slept with a college intern a subordinate in the oval office. As far as I know there are laws against this but I could be wrong. It was wrong what Clinton did. The Republicans ran amok with it politically as they tend to do . First of all, what Sanford did was wrong...completely wrong. I won't defend him one bit. And what brings his affair into the political spectrum is that it did affect his job performance. You just can't leave for a few days like that. And he has been lying, you're right, but he hasn't been lying under oath in court. So while what he did was absolutely wrong, it's not nearly the same as committing perjury. If they choose to impeach him, you won't hear much argument from me.

If you want 3 wives and they all agree they can share you equally and they all sign that contract... I give my blessing fully. Prostitution is considered the world's older profession. I mean you can go out with someone... have a meal and go home and have sex. The only difference between this and prostitution is money is exchanged.

I can see legalized weed too, i've never done drugs but i've seen alcohol and cigarettes destroy more lives than weed every will. Poligamy isn't cool though, we don't need these mormons getting out of hand....(i live in utah, wasn't born here, quite a culture shock) LOL

Now, I I don't believe in gay marriage, but I'm not so narrow-minded as to hate homosexuals for their personal choices.
That being said, I'm a faithful Christian, and even I agree that Sanford needs to take some kind of action OTHER than the normal apology act. Regardless of your stance on gay marriage, hypocrisy is hypocrisy, and people with this sort of behavior should be held to higher accountability, because it's obvious that sometimes this "leadership" role is too much responsibility.

The "bottom line" Sanford has is that he held others up to his own Christian standards... then couldn't uphold them himself. It takes a lot of gall to be *that* kind of hypocrite. His Clinton comments, his track of treatment of gays, his obviously false campaign as a "family man."
And yes, the toilets.
Anyway... yeah, he's made clear who he is. But you won't see him step down, because republicans typically feel entitled to their positions regardless

He's Dutch like me judging from the username. The Dutch education system has been tanking the past 20 years. Sadly these days most kids can barely multiply or spell let alone do "advanced" topics like geography or history.
And yes North and South America are continents, as are Europe and Asia as well as Africa. A landmass doesn't have to be an island to be a continent.

I certainly don't hold anything against the young man, but it is funny that he seemed to be ridiculing me and he is in fact wrong. Well, there is an arbitrariness to these divisions. I assumed the dominant convention of 7 continents. The Americas could be conceptualized as one, but if one were to do that then it would be logical to consider Eurasia one or even Afro-Eurasia, since all three of these continents are continuous in land mass. Why is India called a sub-continent and not Europe?

Historical reasons is all I can come up with. There doesn't seem to be any hard definition of what a continent is. The Greeks originally separated "Europe" from "Asia" and we just stuck with it I think.
And you're right, some people believe Eurasia and America (including N and S) should be considered single continents. Though why they would include Asia in Eurasia and not Africa I don't know.
This is why I never liked geography, the arbitrary borders and naming conventions are annoying ;)

They say history is written by the victors, so that may well be the final answer. In Indians had dominated the modern period, perhaps India would be a separate continent and Europe a sub-continent.
Perhaps a better analysis of plate tectonics will give us a non-arbitrary answer, but then again, sometimes truly objective accounts are not satisfying; witness the expulsion of Pluto from the list of planets.
By the way my mom hosted a Dutch girl years ago. We found her quite intelligent!

Quite right. But you're right ultimately we'd probably not convince many people that our way is better. Not to mention objectivity doesn't appear to be seen as a virtue in this day and age. ;)
