I know what you mean DMB2741. Ive been a DMB fan since they bagan and in 97 lost my father at 10 and this song hits home everytime cause it was what got me through some tough $h!t. I offer my condolence to you and yes thank God for Dave Matthews and his music to drown out the hectic roads life takes us on. Peace fellow DMB brother.
youre not kidding , MRoane41. Crush was actually the song i was listening to the first time i got high in my life... you know, the second time when you officially get high, and it was the very first time i heard dave matthews... ive loved both ever since : D
hahah, cityondown36, you have got to be joking, I've studied at the con of music where i got my bachelor and have been teaching music for 10 years now, Tim IS a genius on guitar, it's not all about playing everything to text book , it's about being able to improv and do things that you feel in the moment, this is called playing with soul, and people that don't get it don''t have it. You think Hendrix hit every note as it was in the recorded version? and I think Dave Matthews might agree.
thats why tim is so good, he does what the entire band does on one guitar, hes amazing. Someone needs to post the set dave warren and greg did, that was unbelievable.
I can't believe I witnissed this. I may be only 12, but I've seen all kinds of music from James Brown to Al Green to Bruce Springsteen to DMB at Red Rocks (9-11-05), and we also saw this. This is the GREATEST PIECE OF MUSIC EVER WRITTEN! I WOULD KILL TO BE ABLE TO WRITE THIS KIND OF MUSIC. RIP LEROI MOORE.
In my opinion, this is the best thing they've done together. I can't believe Tim was able to wrap the entire band up in his guitar like that.. he's such a genius.
unfortunately for your sake I do play guitar which is why i don't like his playing or think he enhances Dave's sound at all. His solo's are musical ramblings and he overuses his effects petal. I'd rather learn from Al Di Meola, Martin Taylor, or Joe Pass. So I will...
I know what Tim Reynolds sounds like. I don't need to see his shitty band to know how he plays. There are 8 million examples of him with Dave on youtube. I'd rather go rearrange my sock drawers.
hmmm. I didn't realize that we knew each other. With that same level of deductive reasoning i guess i can conclude that you wouldn't mind having one of tim's little fingers jammed up ass. Ask him to turn on the effects pedal first though.
Not really. I mean, I love DMB and Dave and Tim shows as much as the next guy, but DMB fans overrate Tim Reynolds, a lot. Any person who has any knowledge of music theory can tell you that Tim isn't all that great. He plays fast but is very sloppy, and misses a LOT of notes. Hell, his solo from LIOG from Radio City is just one note for a couple minutes. Again, I love DMB, love Dave and Tim, but Tim is no where near a guitar God. If you think he is, you're ignorant. Plain and simple.
With that one note, I heard him say more than I've seen a lot of musicians say with many. Specifically shredding. THEORY is overrated. It's helpful, but people cling to it as if it WERE music. Without theory, there would still be music.
@Romans10Verse9 Your comment echoes my views exactly. I am glad that people see it that way as well. I'm in college learning fairly advanced theory and I work with some theory masters but I listen to dave and they all sound like musical fools in comparison. They have trained and they play great but they do not create, flourish, and take my breath away like Dave.
alright so goodgoodtime is being an ass jiggity, i'll give you that...i would usually agree with you about tim's playing. he overuses his effects petal quite a bit and is just too much sometimes. however on this song, on this performance, i feel like tim is absolutely perfect. he adds so must to this, its just amazing. i would normally agree with you, but this is just great.
truthfully i don't dislike Tim's playing as much as it probably appears. I know he's incredibly good and musical. Once provoked I just felt compelled to take a side (which is probably stupid). He does sound good here. Thanks for the response.
amazing, seeing a dave and tim show is something i think everyone must do at least once in their life. words cannot describe how unreal and beautiful they are together. tim adds a whole new perspective and feel to dave songs.
I couldn't agree with you more! I have been to over 20 DMB shows and loved every moment. But my favorite Dave is when he is playing with Tim. Luther College was perfect or so I thought. Seeing Dave and Tim at IU this past April was GREAT! Just wish I could get a recording of the show. Guess it will just have to live in my memories.
A good friend of mine of years recently committed suicide, and music seems to be the only thing that makes me feel better (not better in the sense that everthing is okay) but I get lost in dave's songs. I even make my own videos in my head, I know it sounds stupid, but I have little movies playing in my head that go with the story in the song. has anyone ever had a song creep into a dream. just like in the background of movies, I'll have a dream and then a song will play over it..is that weird?
I'm sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and yours. That's interesting about your dreams. I love dreams. I'm a lucid dreamer myself and I've got some pretty cool "dream stories" I could share, but now that I think about it I never have had music in them the way you mention. Or even at all, which kind of surprises me. Weird.
my thoughts go out to you and your friend.yeah i'm the same way, songs create images just as a book would its amazing what we do and how we are all the same.
This is amazing, but I would love to hear a version where Tim plays around with his own melodies, complimenting Dave's of course. I love when Tim plays like that. Thanks for posting this.
IN the beginning it's a delay pedal (Boss DD-7) combined with a volume swells (Ernie Ball). Its all determined by the set-up (order)of the pedals. Mainly, just the delay for the rest.
And he'll definitely be at the Gorge this year. He's on the whole tour.
