@THECARS7879 Indeed, I agree with the genre and time frame you place The Cars in. I was really just paying tribute to the band's creativity, as well as their postmodern aesthetic which I feel largely defines the band, despite their definitely being a guitar-driven rock/New Wave band.
Here is an example of what great guitar rock is 1:32 - 1:46. Just listen to Elliot jamming that guitar, gives me that bust of energy and what good music is! Only if these no talented hacks in music today would learn something from these true rockers from the past.
I did it in my Pontiac Grand Prix ("crank this song up and do at least 100mph"), day one this song was released-how great it was to be 17 with this music.
Fantastic song... of course this was from my generation so this is good music to me.. I love The Cars, good pure innocent music unlike the hip-hop bullshit today.
Pop? No!! Not that The Cars havent had pop-oriented songs, but this is not one of them!! This is there rock-oriented new wave rarities, I'm 13 and I can tell the difference!
another amazing track on this epic album....musically no one could touch these guys top to bottom. they just never got their due!! this music is stronger today than it was in 1979!!! Nothing.....NOTHING out today can frickin' touch this music, period!!!! awesome...
definetly, the thing about this song is im hearing rock and roll in one ear, and new wave in the left! it's awesome, and a great song to listen to with headphones!
You cannot pick one favorite from this album, face it, you can't. This entire album is brilliantly done. In '79 when this came out, I blasted it in my car,got married, had kids, blasting it with the kids strapped in their car seats, and even now. They gotta have this on Rock Band somewhere! I'll sing it, learn the guitar riffs. This is fuckin' awesome !
" this song is so badass, it kicks the record industry in the teeth without reservation...is there a song out there put out now that can rival this cut? it sure in the hell isn't Black Eyed PEE'S"
i remember when i had this on my cassette player mono sound i could hear all the sounds clearly i guss i always liked the mono better. sterio seams to blend all the sounds together.
this to me is the best song the cars ever recorded when i first bought the candy-o album way back in '79 i remember this was the first track on side 2 and it just had such a fantastic hook to it and i just played it over and over and i never get tired listening to it as for the rock and roll hof ric and ben have a cleveland connection come on hof people recognize this truly great band !!!!!
I went to see The Cars live in Louisville on this tour for the sole purpose of figuring out how Elliot was playing was playing this song. It was still general admission so we got there early, was the first ones in and hung on to the barrier for dear life. Finally got to this song, I saw how he played it (so simple, just hammer the the strings in triplets) and did gave him the geeky thumbs up. He just looked at me, smiled and shook his head like " oh geez".
I saw the Cars in OKC after this album came out and I think the whole crowd was freaked out how I reacted to this song... thank goodness there were a couple of other people who liked it as much as I did...
I think in general today's kids and young adults in their 20s need to listen to THIS one to see what good music sounds like compared to what is and has airing on the radio the past two decades. Really like that guitar lyrics in the part of the tune. What has happened to great music?!
the debut album was near perfect and sold a butt lode, a sales record for a debut album. this album, while it sold less, was perfect in my opinion. not a weak track on it, must have work out 5 cassettes of this one

Piper, i said something similar on another Cars song but you said it better "isn't a really weak song". How true, every song on the first two albums got airplay. How many bands can do that?
20 years on, and a side trip through industrial and goth...... and I still "so like" the first two albums..... they may not have influenced the artists I listened to after, but I think they influenced me to be open to a more true (but still raw) music..... if my neo-goth buddies see this they will dis-own me.... but then again I play the bagpipes... how much can I really care about what others think!!! @MisterDensity I agree. The Cars are great. They actually recorded some of their first stuff in England, booking the studio time that was originally scheduled for Patti Labelle.
