  • I wanna forever be a kid watching the adults listen to this in their cars like I used to. Those were some cool times.

  • This song makes Metallica sound like Air Supply. Candy-O in my top five... amazing album.

  • 714,ss and( Acid) MUST Abeeb aTrip!

  • The all-time kings of the double entendre.......with a kick-ass tune!

  • There seemed to be a dangerous eroticism in many of the Cars songs, found primarily in the bass-line. (I don't know the musical term)

  • This song is not just music; it is also a great piece of modern pop art.

  • @Catdude5000 the CARS aren't pop , they were guitar rock mixed with new wave, very innovative. Its also not a modern song cause its from 1979

  • @THECARS7879 Indeed, I agree with the genre and time frame you place The Cars in. I was really just paying tribute to the band's creativity, as well as their postmodern aesthetic which I feel largely defines the band, despite their definitely being a guitar-driven rock/New Wave band.

  • This album may have helped blow out those Jensen tri-axials....

  • Here is an example of what great guitar rock is 1:32 - 1:46. Just listen to Elliot jamming that guitar, gives me that bust of energy and what good music is! Only if these no talented hacks in music today would learn something from these true rockers from the past.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69 Easton is an absolute monster on guitar period !

  • this song has to be one of the alltime faves

  • Just soooooooo cool!

  • the CARS for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame!

  • As Emeril Lugasse would say....BAM....vs the early versoon.

  • anyone hear similarities in the production of this album and classic queen? guess what... yep. Roy Thomas Baker

  • I was 18 when this came out . Still have the 8 track and vinyl. Not for sale.

  • @BigTruckAA I love the CARS , You should get the Cd, they have it on Amazon for 8 $ right now, I have two copies, one analog , one digiital.

  • If this Cars song doesnt get you moving at the start then, none ofthem will - love it ---

  • I was 16 when this album came out. Our crew of friends would cruise listening to this jam.

  • I love the live video version of this one, the guys really look like they are having fun doing this tune, turn it up load when listening kicks butt.

  • Nice Ocasek at his best

  • Fantastic song... of course this was from my generation so this is good music to me.. I love The Cars, good pure innocent music unlike the hip-hop bullshit today.

  • This album will go down as one of the greatest from 1979, and one of the best for that decade !

  • strange song

  • LSD was much better than the peace pipe, chief...

  • I've never done drugs, don't drink alcohol, and I don't have tatoos. Don't have to do those things to LOVE The CARS!

  • The Cars..Firing on all cylinders @ full throttle.

  • Pop? No!! Not that The Cars havent had pop-oriented songs, but this is not one of them!! This is there rock-oriented new wave rarities, I'm 13 and I can tell the difference!

  • another amazing track on this epic album....musically no one could touch these guys top to bottom. they just never got their due!! this music is stronger today than it was in 1979!!! Nothing.....NOTHING out today can frickin' touch this music, period!!!! awesome...

  • who's the one dislike,,,they must be gang bangers

  • @deathcherub333 probably and even he thought it said "dis I like"

  • the CARS are defintely not pop, they re more like medium guitar rock,

  • @THECARS7879

definetly, the thing about this song is im hearing rock and roll in one ear, and new wave in the left! it's awesome, and a great song to listen to with headphones!

  • 1979 The Best Year Of My Life

  • 3 words describe this song, "Instant Adrenalin Rush"

  • Three words describes this song," Instant Adrenalin Rush !"

  • You never get tired of listening to these guys. Bringing back alot of memories. I say "Keep it coming".

  • You cannot pick one favorite from this album, face it, you can't. This entire album is brilliantly done. In '79 when this came out, I blasted it in my car,got married, had kids, blasting it with the kids strapped in their car seats, and even now. They gotta have this on Rock Band somewhere! I'll sing it, learn the guitar riffs. This is fuckin' awesome !

  • " this song is so badass, it kicks the record industry in the teeth without reservation...is there a song out there put out now that can rival this cut? it sure in the hell isn't Black Eyed PEE'S"

  • yes!!! CLASSIC!!!

  • Candy-O is easily in my top ten classic albums of all time

  • You keep your lovers in a Panty jar.

  • @HandofDoom01 isn't it penny jar? ...don't get me wrong, I like panty jar, just always thought it was penny jar.

  • I brought myself here.

  • Chief like to listen to this while toking on peace pipe.

  • Excellent song. One of Ric's best.

"Oooo, how 'ya shake, me up and down..."

  • MASSIVE song.... Love the guitar riff and layering.

    THANK YOU Slance!

  • I wonder if everyone in the studio had to smoke a cigarette after recording this song.

    Orgasmic!

  • i remember when i had this on my cassette player mono sound i could hear all the sounds clearly i guss i always liked the mono better. sterio seams to blend all the sounds together.

  • That one person who doesn't like this song or album is not a pimp and doesn't know what good music is

  • this to me is the best song the cars ever recorded when i first bought the candy-o album way back in '79 i remember this was the first track on side 2 and it just had such a fantastic hook to it and i just played it over and over and i never get tired listening to it as for the rock and roll hof ric and ben have a cleveland connection come on hof people recognize this truly great band !!!!!

  • CANDYO i need you, sundra dress ruby rings, Candyo i need you so

  • I think its, You keep it cool when it's ST ST STRAIGHT!

  • You keep it cool when it's TTTT TIGHT

  • " twisted groove.."

  • the only way to get the full sound is with quality headphones .... their music is fantastic.

  • I went to see The Cars live in Louisville on this tour for the sole purpose of figuring out how Elliot was playing was playing this song. It was still general admission so we got there early, was the first ones in and hung on to the barrier for dear life. Finally got to this song, I saw how he played it (so simple, just hammer the the strings in triplets) and did gave him the geeky thumbs up. He just looked at me, smiled and shook his head like " oh geez".

  • @tsmakungfu That is BAD ASS! I would give anything to have been there.

  • This whole album is a great way to go back in time to high school! I crank it up in my car cruising around and have all kinds of flashbacks!!!

  • I saw the Cars in OKC after this album came out and I think the whole crowd was freaked out how I reacted to this song... thank goodness there were a couple of other people who liked it as much as I did...

  • Hear this song live on their DVD and be amazed!

  • The hammering that Elliot Easton does on this lead is simply genius

  • The hammering that Elliot Easton does on this lead is simply genius

  • The hammering that elliot Eastion does on this lead is simply genius

  • This has to be the Cars most underrated tune.

  • @ncbeach22 Nice to hear that someone knows good music! Long live THE CARS!

  • @SwissTransAmBandit

I hear you. I've been a Cars fan for many years. They never got the respect they deserved.

  • @lapispinoza Fuck X-Fagtor, that Bieber cunt, Taylor Shit, and the Jon-ASSHOLE brothers!!! :p

  • will someone make a video out a this song plx?

  • Rick Ocasek was the genuis of the group

  • I think in general today's kids and young adults in their 20s need to listen to THIS one to see what good music sounds like compared to what is and has airing on the radio the past two decades. Really like that guitar lyrics in the part of the tune. What has happened to great music?!

  • I like this version but love the early version.

  • This song will give your ears an orgasm!

  • @multigenremusicmvmnt

Or would that be an "ear-gasm"???

  • I INVENTED THIS SONG.

  • cool song

  • dis here some good shit

  • dis years dah bess song ah nevah did yuh

  • CARS 1 & 2 were the best!

  • It was too cool for me at the time.

Was busy with the testosterone thing. Three daughters later, I'm in recovery mode.

  • the debut album was near perfect and sold a butt lode, a sales record for a debut album. this album, while it sold less, was perfect in my opinion. not a weak track on it, must have work out 5 cassettes of this one

  • Ric's signature stream-of-consciousness lyrics...Each band member stands out here, interlocking... to the most intoxicating effect! This song is just phenomenal!

  • one of the best, maybe a perfect new wave pop tune

  • @zaynzaynzayn

how the fuck is this a pop song, do you hear them guitar riffs, that solo, are you def?

  • Jesus, i even like the album cover! Loved these guys.

  • Love ThE HAWKE-STER AND RIC-STERb on this Track ,I was 15 in 79" it was a Great Album and IFTM The other memebers Orr, Easton and Robinson, they all Rocked

  • The best !!

  • "You keep your cool when it's t-t-tight...

Eyes wide open when you...start to fall"

    This song still rox...

30 years hasn't changed that fact.

  • What is the model car the model girl is lying on?

  • @JOKAMAJA it's a '78 vette, the best version of the vette ever made, it kicked serious ass looks wise and speed wise

  • @jimmypage444 63's and 72's were better. Just saying....

  • KICK ASS !!!

  • one of the reasons im proud to be born and raised and still living in the Boston area! :D

  • i think youtube is messing with the sound filters. all the songs i have gone back to listen to sound off

  • the original versons way sweeter

  • no, this version blows that softer version away....you mean sweeter as in more calm and relaxed or sweeter as in a better version?

  • This tune is like a caged animal. Wild but restrained.

  • well stated! I agree.

  • 1979. Had a 75' bright orange Gull winged door Bricklin. Drove all over Atlanta (doors up) blasting this great song.............got a few shocked looks.

No one like THE CARS !!

  • when i heard that album.. i like remember the new sound on 8 track..... so fresh.

  • All the songs on Candy-O still sound so fresh!!

  • @stormtrooper62

I do believe you're right. Candy-O could hold its own - even today.

  • Hold its own???? It BLOWS AWAY the shite being recorded these days!

  • Each musician had such great taste. Nothing was overdone, each new how to play to fit the composition and support the main melody. Great lyrics, writing and execution. What more can you say, Candy-O spawned a generation of copycat wanna be's. What a great band and a perfect album. Not a weak spot on it.

  • @jamo387

Very well put. Candy-O is indeed perfect...

  • You go back and listen to it now, and there isn't a really weak song on whole album... anyone know how songs actually charted in the top 100 from this album?

  • Two only, if you can believe it. Still, album when quadruple platinum -- and rising. Respect!

  • Piper, i said something similar on another Cars song but you said it better "isn't a really weak song". How true, every song on the first two albums got airplay. How many bands can do that?

  • 20 years on, and a side trip through industrial and goth...... and I still "so like" the first two albums..... they may not have influenced the artists I listened to after, but I think they influenced me to be open to a more true (but still raw) music..... if my neo-goth buddies see this they will dis-own me.... but then again I play the bagpipes... how much can I really care about what others think!!! (LOL)

  • god love that electric voice

  • best cars song ever!

  • LOL!! Metallica stole that riff for creeping death.

    Wierd...

  • This song rips! Listen to those guitar lines. . .

    5 X 5. . .

  • Love this song ... I think Candy-O was their best album. Just unbelievable.

  • I honestly think this is the best song Ric Ocasek ever wrote.

  • @MisterDensity I agree. The Cars are great. They actually recorded some of their first stuff in England, booking the studio time that was originally scheduled for Patti Labelle.

  • @MisterDensity Totally!

  • @MisterDensity

Ric Ocasek could SPIT ON THE GROUND and it would be his next best song, he's that good!!!

  • @MisterDensity There is no "think", this is the best.song.ever.

  • @MisterDensity

    my favorite line:

    >...some pressure cooker crawls up, on his knees...

  • xlent
