Weddings are an excuse for businesses to charge an exorbitant amount of money for everything they sell.

How much is a marriage license? That's how much a marriage should cost. The wedding is unnecessary.

It also seems sort of arrogant to have this big show for your wedding, like you're so important that you need a bunch of people to congratulate you for doing something that anyone can do (except gays, cause bigots won't allow it.) Getting married isn't an accomplishment.

Getting married so young is a mistake IMO anyway. You'll just end up divorced with 2 kids. Unless the reason you're getting married is because you're pregnant, in which case it's gonna end the same way.

Simple weddings are the best way to go! My older brother's was in Puerto Rico (sister in law is from there) and practically none of our family was able to make it. I did, and it was just too over the top for me. Good luck to you and Isaac!

We went non-traditional on a lot of things for our wedding too. We walked down the aisle to my brother playing 'True Love Waits' by Radiohead acoustic.(my favourite band) And Canon in D techno remix for the recessional because my husband loves techno. It was fun! I think it's important to incorporate your personalities into the day. Best of luck to you on the planning! :)

Why don't you make your own cake? :D That's not expensive at all. Or just go to a local bakery and get a simple wedding one (like, not a ridiculously huge one] or...like get a plain one and decorate it yourself?

Though why don't you ask your rents if they'll help you out a little bit with the wedding? It sounds as though ALL of it's coming from yours & Isaac's pockets :(

All totally understandable, people spend hundreds of thousands on weddings here, for that you could buy a house, sure your wedding day is special, but its about the marriage, not the party you throw. Only thing I wonder for you though, if you're having cupcakes instead of a cake, how will you cut the cake? Will just just cut a cupcake instead or totally forget that bit?

I would probably get a photographer, just caue you can't go back in time to take pictures you missed. Good luck :)

Ah, I know, wedding photographers are ridiculously expensive! The one at my older sister's wedding was a nice bloke, but at the end of the day people with their own cameras had far nicer, more natural pictures. Try and get a friend with a good-quality camera to take a few posed snaps, but other than that, you're all set.

Like has been said photography students from colleges usually work pretty cheap, possibly free if they have an assignment to cover an event.

I always liked the idea of buying the disposable cameras (that have a flash you can turn on/off) and having people pass them around and take the pictures. Have a friend be on camera look-out though to make sure all the pictures get used up. It would suck to pay to develop a camera for like 3 mediocre pics.

My 2nd wedding - dinner (it cost us $15 per person) and cash bar. Yes, CASH bar! I taped all the music, and picked my own music for walking up the aisle, and then back again. Yours sounds great. Like you said, marriage, not wedding. BUT - if I could give you one piece of huge adivce - if you can't find a photographer who can do it cheaply, get a friend to be the designated photog. You will, I promise, regret not having some good photos of this momentous occasion. Congrats!! :)

Okay, totally go to craigslist and see if you can't find a wedding photographer. There are plenty of people who would be willing to do it for much less, as long as you promise not to sue, lol! Just make sure you get someone who has TWO cameras, and uses both.

LOL @ wedding cupcakes? Come on Melody you can afford a real wedding cake. Its cheep. You can buy those little kits at the store, and a few cake mixes, and your mom could probably make it for you in an hour or two. If you really want to save money though, you could always pay a Judge $50 or what ever to perform your wedding at the Court House. Just a thought.

OK, but I just never heard of wedding cupcakes.;) The reason I thought about it is because I've been to several weddings that were on were very similar to what you are planing, cost wise. The weddings were performed in a court room. Took probably 20 min. Everyone was there that they wanted, and everyone took all the pictures and everything. Then after that, they had just an informal party and dinner at home. Maybe not as bad as you imagine.
