Oh Lord, this music gives me the chills and reminds me of one of the epic battles in my English campaign against the Spaniards, both sides facing each other off on a rocky plateau. A long archer and artillery skirmish followed, until the Knights of Santiago started moving. Soon, they were met by the English Knights, whilst the bloody infantry moved in...
This is the best track in m2tw i think :) the only thing annoying about the game is when your a catholic faction lets say..England you attack another catholic faction then the pope has a go at you :S
This song played in the battle that would mark my first campaign completion. I was England, had everything from France to Hungary, invading Turks were my last true obstacle. They gathered at Thessalonika and I slaughtered them mercilessly, claimed the city, and at last I was emperor of Europe! >:D
This is not Spanish song. It is played for Venice, Byzantine Empire, Milan, sometimes France, and Spain. But it is not Spanish song. It plays for all nations when they fight near Mediterranian sea.
It would be good if you wrote the name of the song. That is why I prefer TotalWarEra's music.
the spanish next to the scots are my favorite great medieval civilization, mainly because they fought alongside us irish against the english, pity we lost 9 years war anyway but thanks nonetheless.
could someone put up a video like this but with better quality? this song is not on the tracklist i have and its so damn annoying, this song is AWESOME. i am NOT AT ALL going to download it via some program i have :]....
I used to love playing spain and hearing this song. sometimes at the start of a battle i'd move a group of units an inch to get the marching music to play, only to hear something else so i'd speed up the time, wait for that track to fade out and repeat until i got this song.
finally i'd order them all to march and slowly pan the camera across my line of full plate chivalric knights and musketeers.
im not one to get all up in everyone case about my heritage and what not, but i tried spain to see what it was like after playing as spain in the campaign i felt awsome
Spain has always been my favorite faction in Medieval II. I first played France because of my heritage, but I soon learned that there is nothing more amazing than driving the Moors off the Iberian Peninsula. :D
@stevej71393 As a frenchman I do enjoy playing France. But the Reconquista is fun to play (and crushing Portugal too btw), and if you do i quickly Spain become very strong as it's easy to defend (compared to France anyway).
But, the France England feud is still nice to play :)
have you ever noticed the moment you start moving your troops a music comes, when you last half your army another comes, when the enemy starts to flee, or you, another one comes
most of us dont see it beacause we are too...into the battle. :P
@SirSethietheGA Flamenco not Flamingo!! The Flamingo is a pink long-legged bird xD Flamaneco is a music, and dance, style hailing from Andalucia (in southern Spain). And yes, this sounds a bit like it, plus monks for the chorus and some dramatic strings haha. That said this track plays whenever you have a battle in southern Europe... Iberia, Italia, mainland Greece and islands and bits of southern France, even if you are not playing any southern european factions.
Seriously, I don't know I how some people figure the music in MTW 1 is superior. Seriously, most of the tracks in that game are too short, there are only two kinds of music (European/Middle Eastern); no sides have any unique anthems. This Spanish anthem is epic/
All you have to do to beat the timurids is build a shitload of cannons to take our their elephants. Normally they take like 8 cities before I can stop them. Once they lose those fucking elephants... spam horses
yeah horses all the way i usually used full gothics knights and imperials knights vs the standards units and calvary followed with 4 units of reiters then i send 2 units each of them to take the 2 elephants units and thats all... they go berserker stamping their own units, i send all the heavy calvary for get thru to take down the enemy general charging the enemy archers and calvery in the way for take him and when he's sorrounded most of the enemy army is dead =)
good times, I remember conquering all of the americas and europe with spain then the tatars or whatever came with their fucking elephants and started threatening northern italy. pissed me right off I couldnt stop them
i know wat u mean,i had a succesfull crusade on jerusalem, then i conqured ,i most of middle east, turkey egypt all dat, then the mongols came, godthat was hard, when i just finished wiv them those fuking timurids came and i lost all the territories.
i destroyed turkey with byzantium first , then mongols came but couldnt stop them and then timurids came and started war with mongols so it was a little bit easier , but i wish turkey to be there to help againts mongols and timurids :P
Really like this song when playing the Byzantine Empire.
But I have to say something, once when I was in battle, I moved the greek king and he shoutted: Rapido!
Isn't that in spanish meaning: Fast!? Anyway maybe it was used in Medieval Greek, cause I know that "para" was a word used by greeks in classical and medieval greek, which is transalted to beside, and this is used by Spanish today!
Remember, while the Byzantines were a continuation of the Roman Empire, they spoke predominantly greek and latinization did not really occur in the Roman east. Anyways, this music is kinda a generalized Mediterranean tune with elements of Byzantine chant, Andalucian clapping beat, and Italian mandolin. Overall tho, it combines to make a great effect and I disagree about the horn being annoying; personally I think its the best part after the awesome mandolin/lute. =)
Italians got this song played too during their battles. I think if they slowed down the snare in the beginning and then sped them up...it would make it truly amazing.
And the last thing I may add: flamenco is related to andalusi music. That means that it is related to other musical and cultural expresion across the mediterranean. Hence the relationship between the andalusian guitar and the sicilian mandoline or the lute, which is played in many places across the Mediterranean Sea.
Does the fact that Alfonso X was leonese involve that there wasn't a part of the peninsula which was still ruled by the Muslims (not necesarily moors/bereberians...)? does involve that there weren't muslims living under his rule in his kingdoms, muslims that, together with jews, became an important part of the cultural jet-set of the kingdom (learn a bit of the Translators School of Toledo).
You're mistaken about the nature of Islamic Spain and flamenco. Flamenco is not a gipsy music in origin. The gipsies first heard of this music when they came in contact with the muslim marginal environment derived from the Castilian conquest of what is now Andalusia. The manipulation and steal carried out by the gipsies comes after that.

if you are proud better for you... O_o but dont say lies about a islamic culture in Spain today when the vestiges today are "few" words, foods, constructions,... but NOTHING else!!!.....ah and al-andalus means VANDAL´S LAND ^^
AND I REPEAT: THE MODERN FLAMENCO AND SIMILAR ARE MUSIC STYLES WHO COME WITH gypsies later, very, very later...MEDIAEVAL SPAIN HAS EUROPEAN MEDIEVAL MUSIC¡¡¡¡and another fake of the game is erase kingdoms like aragon, leon, portugal, navarra....

I like to think of this as Italian music. It has some Spanish flair, but the mandolin/lute is distinctively Italian. Could also be Portuguese, but I love this song when it plays when I play as the Venetians. Truly awesome.
What used to be flamenco (before gipsy manipulation, which began with the Castilian conquest of southern Spain) is an evolution of andalusi music (music of Al-Andalus, or muslim-ruled Iberia), so very related with "Spanish age of castles" (Spain was living in an age of urban development. With 1 million inh., Cordoba was the biggest city in western Europe in the IX, X and XI centuries).
I'm glad you guys appreciate the song i wrote and also that it has sparked much heated debate. Which brings me to another recommendation of a track i wrote in a similar flavor. It's called "Lifted to the Hotplate" and i personally like it even more than this one and is designed to trigger in mediterranean/spanish battles.
Oh by the way, to the Arab racist sniperbrigade or whatever, Middle Easterners stole their culture from the Romans, who stole it from the Greeks, who stole it from the Phoenicians. And you stole your religion from Christians, who stole theirs from the Jews. So, stop claiming you are superior, and that Europeans "stole" your thunder. If anything, you stole it from them.
If you own the game you can do as I did and go to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\sounds and open the music.dat file with "audacity" (its a free audio editing program). This will take a minute due to the large file size. Once open, skip to 1h:53m:30s and you will hear this song. Cut the part you want and convert to mp3.
Or you could just simply copy this youtube video and convert it to mp3 but you will have poor quality audio.
both the alohmad civilisation and the spanish had their own strengths and weaknesses, the moorish culture was much more advanced in things like medicine art philosophy architechture etc but the spanish was much better in warfare and this happens all across europe in the middle ages as the west lost roman knowledge and the east kept it. The requonquista was never a true sucess as while the spanish kings and queens ruled iberia the moorish culture and islam lived on and is still there today
cid get to the fight with the Moors when he was banished by his king, yet never fight against their king or his homeland if not against other Arab kings, or the Count of Barcelona, rival king
Oh Lord, this music gives me the chills and reminds me of one of the epic battles in my English campaign against the Spaniards, both sides facing each other off on a rocky plateau.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It's so classic seeing my Highlanders whip Spanish ass to this song.

I think he used the term "shit" as a stand in for "and so on and so forth". He wasn't actually calling Europeans shit.
Remember that the Arabs profited mainly from the writings of Greek and Roman philosophers as well, like Aristotle, Plato and Hero of Alexandria.

I sure hope Empire: Total War's music will be as good as Rome's and Medieval's. :)

The first medieval's was the best.

This is my favorite track but isn't on the sound track that comes with the game. I have no clue why. If anyone has an mp3 of this please message me.

I remember getting this music a lot when playing as the Byzantine Empire, or even Sicily. I think it goes for all Southern European factions, right?
It sounds nice. :)

both the alohmad civilisation and the spanish had their own strengths and weaknesses, the moorish culture was much more advanced in things like medicine art philosophy architechture etc but the spanish was much better in warfare and this happens all across europe in the middle ages as the west lost roman knowledge and the east kept it. The requonquista was never a true sucess as while the spanish kings and queens ruled iberia the moorish culture and islam lived on and is still there today

Don't forget that "El cid", the so called hero of spain. Was a Mercernary that fought for both sides : D.

cid get to the fight with the Moors when he was banished by his king, yet never fight against their king or his homeland if not against other Arab kings, or the Count of Barcelona, rival king

Yeah, only after Scientific revolution we Europeans started showing ourselves as great thinkers, architectures, mathematicians and shit.

I agree mostly but the last part. In fact, the Catholic Kings did a "good job" kicking out all what remained from Islam (and jewish). There is islam t
