I enjoy a lot Victor Merzhanov's version, a very underrataed Russian pianist. His arpegios are reminiscent of the Arabic lute, and the phrasing of his rendition has a rubato that, to me, is so much more romantic. Schumann was a romantic composer, and during that period the "arabesques" were popular following the literary tradition of the Thousand and One Nights.
VICTOR MERZHANOV: Schumann. Arabeske in C Major, op. 18
@yiyiku Yes it is fast, but i like it that way probably because of familiarity. It is the wonder of music that we can differ, we can both be moved to tears by great music and performers and not have to claim absolute right and wrong.

The main theme is on the fast side but, as often happens, the tempo subsequently settles down [except when the main theme returns].

Check out Rubenstein's version! A little slower and very sensitively played! I like his performance the best.
