You do not want got get a HP laptop. These are made from creaky cheap plastic, which tend to fall apart after about 15 months, plus HPs tech support in India sucks big time. For gaming you'd want something with a decent graphics card and plenty of RAM.

Is portability important? If no then go with a desktop, gaming on these is much better than with laptops.

I don't agree that PC's are faster then Macs, but I would say that Mac=professional, design, video, etc. While PC= people who game, and only need the basics. But, think, for an extra 200-500(mac mini) bucks you will get a mac that will be more reliable, wont cause you frustration, will last a lot longer, will always fit your needs, wont spend money fixing it so much(learned this from experience), and has a much cleaner OS.

macs are great both hardware and software. They never compromise on class, quality, performance, durability and customer service. Sadly macintosh platform has been misunderstand, false claims, people talk bad about them with any knowledge nor proper experience. But once u overlook all that and buy one, u will realize the worth it has and why people who have macs adore them; its more like getting a lambo car. Pc's from experience tend to slow down after a while, horrible battery life (laptops).

In my own experience Macs seem to flow better and have a solid interface. However there are a number of programs that aren't compatible with them. My advise would be to figure out what you'll be using your computer for then make the choice. Macs for art and media. PC's for business and games.

So, if you're looking for a simple 'check email, listen to music, and write papers' machine, get a mac. If you want more flexibility, especially the ability to run other OSes, namely linux, buy a PC. With regards to the mac laptops being higher end with regards to specs, you can easily find a pc laptop with better specs for the same price.

You can run more operating systems on a mac than a pc. With a mac you can run distributions of linux as well as run XP/Vista. With a pc, you can only run linux distros and XP/Vista. Unless you want to configure a hackintosh, you cannot run OS X on a pc. The price argument is right on. But this "omg macs are for n00bs" thing needs to stop. They can do far more than just check email, listen to music, and write papers.

I have the top of the line macbook 17" out at the moment and my pc kicks the shit out of it, it would do the same out of any mac pro too the specs are higher for a start than mac offer.
