Have to disagree with Olbermann on this one. The skin needs a certain amount of UV rays to get proper nutrients. Without them for an extended period of time, it would cause depression in even the sanest minds.

If only you learned science in school. You make Vitamin D by exposure to the sun. You can get it now from many things, including milk. You could live indoors forever and not be depressed, that is if you were not a winy sad sack type.

Not that I support Palin by any means, but I can actually see getting a tanning bed up there for those reasons. Seasonal affective disorder happens to a ton of people, even if they don't realize it; it's not something you absolutely need to see a therapist about, and getting artificial light (like from a tanning bed) is a treatment. If you can get a version of light treatment, you're usually good to go.
I agree. I don't think they should had not brought up the tanning bed unless Palin released her medical errors and it is McCain-ish. There are plenty of authentic scandals out there, like the trooper-gate one.
The problem I have with this isn't the supposed crime, it's the weak excuse given to cover it up. As Keith said, if it was just said that Pailin wanted a tanning bed instead of saying she might have SAD, then there wouldn't be this much fooforall about it.
