The part of the movie that grabbed me was when Bush said he was giving up sweets and desserts as a personal sacrifice for those that have suffered in the Iraq war. But I couldn't help but notice that Bush was drinking Coca Cola during that same meeting, and Cheney was drinking Dr. Pepper. I think Oliver Stone did that on purpose as a means of mocking Bush's hypocricy. Or maybe just how dense Bush is/was. Or maybe it was unintended and total coincidence. But I doubt it.

In the "fraternity hazing" scene, Oliver Stone presents Bush as a college student who remembers the name of each and every one of his potential fraternity brothers, which solidifies their respect for him as a consequence. It's rather difficult to "play [a] scene in a loop" when the movie is still in theaters, and yes, I saw the film twice. No, I use it to justify my irate response to left wingers who complain about how the Iraq war is some gigantic SNAFU, which is a blatant insult to every veteran of every other US war that actually saw country-vs-country destruction.
For YEARS liberals and conservatives had been pulling for an invasion of Iraq (notably Clinton in 1998 after 10 UN inspectors were thrown out while looking for biological WMDs). We did nothing.
Too bad we didn't have the Bush Doctrine BEFORE 9/11.

The part of the movie that grabbed me was when Bush said he was giving up sweets and desserts as a personal sacrifice for those that have suffered in the Iraq war. But I couldn't help but notice that Bush was drinking Coca Cola during that same meeting, and Cheney was drinking Dr. Pepper. I think Oliver Stone did that on purpose as a means of mocking Bush's hypocricy. Or maybe just how dense Bush is/was. Or maybe it was unintended and total coincidence. But I doubt it.

Anna's wrong. This movie was a Bush bash. All I could think as I watched this was that this whole movie was a parody.
It was infused with a degreee of seriousness, but this was meant to be a parody for those that could decifer the underlying mockery prevalent in this film. That's the only way I can justify this it. As a person that hated Bush and his policies, this film was horrible. It sought to encapsulate all of Bush's worst moments, and failed miserably at doing so.

And yes I do mean prisoners of war that were innocent. People taken without any proof of wrong doing. People that are still being held and havent been accused of any crime. An there were people that died in custudy due to torture and there was never any proof of wrong doing.

Funny seeing their commentary months after seeing the movie. It was ok and their perspective is understandable but I could hardly finish watching it. They portray Bush as a sincere but gullible fool easily manipulated into making tough decisions that eventually tarnish his reputation but the pathos is lost on me. Interesting biopic but nothing spectacular. 2 out of 5.

The one thing that always pissed me off about Bush, really got under my skin, was that he said "we" in a lot of his speeches, as if he's in the war, too. Like "WE cannot run from Iraq." "WE must fight terrorism."
That just irritated me to no end. Not that it didn't when I heard the public talking about how "WE" need to fight terrorism this way, or "WE" can't cut and run. We are a part of the political process to put it into motion, but WE are not there. SOLDIERS are. IRAQIS are.

I read a book called "The Bush Tragedy" by Jacob Kriegstein, which is an awesome book, and Stone's movie is very similar. Maybe if she'd read an actual book instead of playing internet talking head she wouldn't have been so taken off guard that the movie wasn't a blatant bashing.

In the "fraternity hazing" scene, Oliver Stone presents Bush as a college student who remembers the name of each and every one of his potential fraternity brothers, which solidifies their respect for him as a consequence. Sorry "The Young Turks," but that's hardly an indictment of Bush's "stupidity" at least in terms of his depiction in W.
