i dont understand why all these laptop manufacturers decide to place the ports all over the unit. since nobody offers a port replicator option, when i bring my laptop home it looks like the matrix -- tons of wires everywhere, every direction...

They did a decent job with some of the ports --- but then stick the power in the back? i mean, its the most commonly used jack. why stick it in a place where no other cables are located...?!?!

Dell is the worst ever. I have a 3 month old XPS 15 that I use to rest my desktop keyboard on because it sucks that much. Don't want to turn it on and as soon as my new laptop comes I'm gutting it for parts. I hate Dell and will never by anything else from them. Build quality is cheap with a matt plastic frame around the display. The display quality is the worst I have ever seen with & Nvidia Optimus 1 GB graphics card at 1366. Tech support is awful, trained to extract more money out of callers.

@Pissdrunx4everrrr I have an apple, hate it a lot. Overpriced, overheats a lot, and has decent performance (not good tho). Yes, I'm talking about the updated macbook pro 2011. Apple only cares about looks and money. Heat is a major issue, it will lose performance the hotter it gets. I hit 94 degrees Celsius with mine >.< That actually does hurt -_-

I am highly impressed by the size of the laptop, which is really stylish and handy to carry. Currently I am using a studio 15 laptop, and looking for a high performance machine with perfect finishing, dell XPS 15z perfectly matches according to my requirement.

Thanks Jeff, being a proud owner of XPS 15z I am definitely ignoring the cons. why coz now i can have all the data which i missed when i forget my drive at office. 2nd d downloads r really faster even its has a 5.1 feel also which is amazing also if u have a gr8 headphone u feel no difference between an ipod. I am not a game frenetic but im happy with d ones i play. Overall its one of the stylist laptop coz i had like 25 different laptops infront of me when i bought this a real eye catcher.

Completely different design than the old XPS 1530. This model has more

aluminum which is good for temperature.I have XPS 15,with hi qality sound from JBL.For 7 months i had no problem.Very reliable laptop

You forgot the biggest flaw (I know as I'm returning mine today) -- the bar under the monitor is clearly bowed and makes the laptop feel very cheap. That bar under the monitor doesn't cleanly meet the arms that hold up the monitor either. You can clearly see both defects in your video.

To go with the smaller 14z but deal with the lower resolution and no sub or to go with the 15z but have to deal with the bigger size but get the better speakers and the higher resolution. Any recommendations?

Macs cost more to make the unibody design and use a much better CPU while remaining thinner and better looking, however, for the price, this is one hell of a laptop. one thing for sure this laptop CANNOT handle extensive 3d gaming, it's randomly shut down after 2-3 hours of playing, the overheating issue is the only problem I have with this laptop

Thank you for the insightful review. I am grateful to have stumbled across your videos and will check back often. The Dell XPS 15z seems to be one of the best all around laptop designs that Dell has created to compete with the Macbook Pro. If money was no object, I would buy this computer with the 1080p option - no questions asked. However, since money is an issue I'm curious if the 1080p is worth the extra cost or if this is an area that I could cut costs on and live with the 720p.
