  • Good thing ATC was E190 rated!

I would imagine the best proceedure would be to talk the private pilot through programing the FMC for an ILS autoland? Fuel dependant of course. Anyway, I don't think I'd want to be sitting in the back while a PPL tried to manage the energy state of a 40 ton airliner on approach.

  • anyone notice the atc is were are scrambling 2 f16 but it was 2 f18 that were shown

  • Flying this is a lot easier actually then small single engines. It's so much more stable...

  • Of course a private pilot can land an airliner, too. Aviator is aviator. It just depends on the skills.

  • ''I think he ate the fish'' HAHAHHAHAHA I died of laughter, love the way you used a movie reference!

  • Embraer 190 as a Jetliner ? more like a regional jet.

  • you had save 90 bacons

  • WHERE are these simulators??

  • Let's see a private pilot land in a 30kt crosswind, icing, thunderstorms, windshear, moderate turbulence, lightning flashes, wake turbulence, etc.

This makes it seem like airline pilots have no wind, clouds or turbulence.

  • @jbraunger Not sure about ALL of that, but in season 2 our private pilot (single engine) returns to the sim and lands a 737 with an engine out... or tries to!

  • @jbraunger

Do you really need to discredit this guy this way?

  • @jbraunger You think Private Pilots don't have to deal with weather? If anything, weather affects on the PPL holder more because the aircraft he flies is lighter and more vulnerable.

  • @jbraunger You are right! only comercial pilots encounter crosswinds, icing, thunderstorms, etc., unfortunately they are not super humans, they have all the time the autopilot to do all the work and mother nature which is very intelligent, when a private pilot is on approach conditions imediately get better until they land stupid! hahaaa!!!

  • @jbraunger It wasn't the point of the exercise to see if a Cessna single engine pilot could land an airliner in conditions that would challenge an airline pilot. The guy did a great job.

  • Could a private pilot land an RJ? Maybe

Could a private pilot land a larger jet? Unlikely.

  • @jbraunger NO, IT IS VERY VERY LIKELY.

  • You can visit Munich Airport and pay 75 Euros and sit in the simulator seat for one half hour. You fly a route of your liking, they take your picture and give a cert,f,cate. I did it and had great fun. Simulator is located in Terminal 2 across from the arrival gate.

  • did anyone else get the "he had the fish" reference? lol

  • they're calling a RJ a "jetliner".....thats funny.

that plane is so easy to fly someone without a private could land it.

  • And I would give anything to be in such a situation.

  • beautiful landing

  • @jvargasval Thanks! -blush- :-)

  • Not knocking ATC, but they would have no Idea what the cockpit setup would be like...

  • @mattFly13 They may have called in a specialist in an EMERGENCY situation to relay the information, that's a lot of simulated Lives on board.

  • @mattFly13 True, the ATC will not know the setup of the aircraft. They will call up a trained professional at the airport that does have the knowledge of the aircraft.

  • If you're going to do this, why not be a bit more realistic? Your "Air Traffic Controller" knew WAY to much about the aircraft and the speeds being flown ...

  • ya because all atc know how to fly this plane !!

  • Dont show this! Now any private pilot is going to think its that easy and become airline pilots ><

  • @magicmike1122 It's gonna be kind of difficult since they'll need, a Instrument rating, multi engine rating, commercial license,ATP and probably CFI before any airline will hire them.lol

  • @dynhamik The CFI would be a given, since that's a primary way to build time. Also, to shift into a right seat in many places, you will need Commercial MEL with Instrument. An ATP would not be necessary, particularly with the feeder airlines.

The hoops to jump through are difficult, and certainly you need to be a precision pilot. The bigger they are, the easier they are to fly.

  • Fascinating!

  • A TV program that isn't about airplanes crashing and burning for a change.

  • I think they had the fish. Oh how I lol'd.

  • i cant watch the full episodes since i live outside the US, they should do something about that.

  • I can guarantee Houston controllers don't have a Canadian accent! haha....good job though guys!!

  • Nice show, but the F-16s are F/A-18s....

  • Nice job Anthony!!! Flight simulator in my opinion has a much bigger influence in this situation than a PPL. I had the chance to fly the Horizon Aviation simulator, and did a short flight from Toronto to London, ON and the Hong Kong IGS approach with no problem handling the aircraft.

  • I would give anything to be in one of those simulators.

  • "I think they had the fish" LOL CLASSIC ! !

  • I call next.

  • You showed F/A-18 Hornets when they said they sent out F-16s. Any place where I can watch these episodes outside of the US?

  • @gt5004life: Good catch! At that point we just needed a ready shot of fighter jets and the discrepancy did not affect the overall accuracy of the segment.
