One clarification. Communication does not differentiate us from animals. Animals communicate - this is obvious from cursory observation - and they may well communicate in ways beyond our capacity to discern.

At the same time, it is probably also true that certain features of human communication are unique.

@Bodhi106 usually someone like these have low self-esteem, they're scared that what they talk about will show people their stupidity or how boring they are. yeah, it's gonna take quite an effort to get them to talk, but from my experience once they feel comfortable with you usually they will start talking a lot and since they don't talk much to others, chances are you are going to find more refreshing point of views :)
