As to the keyblades, you just get some new ones in different worlds when you play the game, and then you can go and just equip them. The shield and the wand are not upgraded automatically, but you can buy stronger ones at the mogry's.

By the way, great walkthrough. I've never played the game, but rather watched my best friend play it (since he has the PS2/PS3, I have the XBox/360).

The whole storyline of how you split into a Heartless and a Nobody really intrigued me, along with how there are multiple "villains" vying for different purposes.
